BIG UPDATE EVERYONE: I posted a new video which is a follow up to this one, I decided to start a new series talking about making Drum & Bass drums from absolute scratch. The first video is currently out and I will keep adding videos to the playlist. So if you are ready for a DEEP DIVE INTO DNB DRUMS, then check the links below 😀 A DEEP DIVE INTO DNB DRUMS 1: KICK SYNTHESIS - ua-cam.com/video/APVRfAMnmpo/v-deo.html A DEEP DIVE INTO DNB DRUMS (Full Playlist) - ua-cam.com/play/PLFF4GNypydQ3Y-GxMN1m08CpjraQdDJKc.html
First time watching your channel. VERY useful, I was confused how to make the ghost notes in hardware gear but this gave me tons of ideas, also with the kick. Thanks
Cool ill check it out, these tutorials are great, even though i have learned alot of this before, getting a fast review of simple ways to change stuff up, jump starts my mind again when i fall into a rut.. sometimes making very simple changes is all you need to change the feel, instead of trying to rework everything or give up on the track..
And by that I mean, you guys should listen to militarystep, tho I don't think y'all like it if you guys are purely into liquid dancefloor and neurofunk
@@djnaymark4841 tell the guy that have 8 followers in 5 years. You're too cool for us man. It can be more constructive if you put something to share on your channel instead of using youtube to bashing people that are really nice and share their passion and how to with the rest of the world.
I've been producing for 10 years and I still learned from this video I would love if you did a Drum and Bass Music Theory video. I feel like that a bit more advanced but still needed for beginners
A good subject for Drum & Bass theory is how to make your mix sound as good in mono as it does in stereo. I found it's very easy for me to have a great mix in stereo, but something's always off in mono, and compared to commercially released tracks, everything sounds the same in stereo and in mono!! how?!?!
@@apoplexiamusic I think it's got to do with phase cancellation. You got to align phases properly. And try to stay away from stereo in your low end, just mono it.
When it comes to Drum & Bass, at least the heavier kind, music theory isn't all that important. Most Drum & Bass tracks don't have much melodic content or chord progressions and rely a lot more on texture and character in sounds. Liquid Drum & Bass on another note would include more music theory, but the theory wouldn't differ from let's say other genres. Music theory is a universal thing that applies to any genre you want to make, no such thing as music theory specific for Drum & Bass. I would say just learn your basic Major and minor scales, maybe some modes like Phrygian and you are all set, but in the end the most important thing is to use your ears.
Literally the only video that heloed me, I didn't understand how d&b beats were "filled up" but what I heard and couldn't mention was the ghostsnare and the use of 2 hi hats, tysm this vid is great!!
as someone who normaly tracks live drums for everything, I found this usefull for learning the theory behind what im normaly just winging. 10/10 usefull video
I learned a lot from this video and made my first DNB pattern. Thanks for the lesson. Key takeaways: ghost snares sound great, alter the velocity on kick drums and good samples make a big difference.
Yo ! I'm a multistyle producer mainly focused on industrial. I haver never followed any tutorials exepts to understand how software is working. After hours at struggling and having no idea how to create drums loops that gives "action" or "running" feeling, your tutorial gave me greate templates to finaly know where i'm going thank you !
Big thanks! Very helpful tutorial. Especially that ghost snare thing, a small detail that adds a lot to the pattern, probably very obvious, but was confusing for me to figure this out myself)
This video was so helpful & can't wait to try out these drum n bass patterns. I'm still a bit of a beginner in music production & seem to be naturally better at creating hiphop beats but I love drum n bass music & really want to make a drum n bass track. This style of music is good for different styles of singing & rapping too. Great video which is in my handy music tutorial playlist :)
@13:59 I guess technically you can call it "swing", in the context of different grid resolution. Really nice and clear breakdown. Inspiring! Thank you!
thanks, i have seen about 20 videos to learn drum and bass, and this is the first that actualy teach. The others were just "see you all how much i know". i suscribed
As a beginner, this was exactly the video I was looking for after weeks of searching. I will def check out the rest, thank you for this content, this has helped me immensely 🙏🏼👊
Hey ! nice vid it was very useful for me 😄 (Small advice : you can adjust the offset between the sound and the image on obs in the mixer -> gear symbol -> advanced audio properties -> sync offset 😉 I calculated for you and you have 9 images of offsets, which would make a compensation of 9/24 or 375ms. I hope it will be better 😊)
Wow nice tutorial mate nice to see how certain drum and bass loops can be made .. recently subbed you and got say your tutorials are very informative keep on with the good work 👍🏻
Peak video! I'm trying to get into techno producing, and I've always dreamt of adding a dnb drum blast before a drop :) Thank you, you were super useful to me
Another popular Dnb 2 step drum pat variation is to delay the first down beat of the 4th bar. Placing the kick on the off beat of one. Sounds awsome with rolling ghost snare drum accents.
The Amen Break is great, however it's not needed in a video where I explain the basic drum patterns used in Drum & Bass. On another note though, I am working on an Amen Break-related video.
@@artfxdnb A brief mention of the Amen Break will give your audience pertinent information as how drum and bass came about in the first place. History has shown us that the best musicians often have a deep appreciation for what came prior and interlace the past with the present.
duuude i just found your channel and id consider myself and semi advanced beginner, lmao. but i wanna make neuro like kursa and frequent but its sooo hard. i dont even know where to begin but im gonna binge your channel :) subbed
thanks for doing this tutorial, very well put together and i did learn quite a bit, i liked all the different variations of drum patterns, very useful for beginners and more experienced producers, i dont think you can ever learn enough with anything so well done and i have subscribed. i am looking forward to more tutorials from you, well done!! from me Robert Boniface.
Wicked video! I've always found drum programming confusing because i use audio but il try it in midi now! Made it look so simple! thanks and keep up the good work!
You can do the exact same thing in audio, in fact, I mostly do drums in audio but for the sake of demonstrating it in this video, it was easier to show people when it's all done inside on MIDI clip. This said, however, doing your drums in audio works the exact same way, instead of doing it in one MIDI clip you just do it on several audio tracks, the outcome will be the same.

what is the name of this music making program?
I suppose it's "Ableton Live" ...

Very good explanation about DnB base pattern.

For FL Studio users you can go to FPC: they have all of the Drum and Bass loops to hear to.
