    When Natalie first talked about the pediatric organs donation, I teared a bit. When my little brother died, my mom told me I was the one who changed her mind about organs donation,I don't even know what I said or when I said it, but I feel happy my brother may have helped other children out there and some other family don't have to go through the same we had.

Also they were told to ignore the tattoo too, until the legal team decided. Not if it says "Do not resuscitate, form on file" - that last bit "... file on record" makes it mandatory to check for said file on record, before resuscitatation ! Yes, the tattoo itself is not legally binding in the sense that it can replace the legal file, but if you see a tattoo that states that there EXIST such a file, you are obligated to check for it ! If you don't, you're in serious trouble, because you KNEW there might be a recorded file, due to the tattoo stating so !
      That's why I'll be getting such a tattoo as soon as I get my own file recorded .... I do NOT want to be resuscitated and I certainly do NOT want to be an organ donor either ....

      Or the case of a father having a stand off with police until his son squeezed his hand because they declared his son brain dead when he wasnt and were about to take him off support. It was found out that that hospital was shady and the son was a match for an organ for one of the directors wives.
      If you are an organ donor you can guarantee that your going to be lower on the priority list because of the need for organs and if you die they get them. Some healthcare professionals, like paramedics, Ive seen on threads/comments that talk about this and caution people because they've seen instances where the patient could have been saved but upon finding out about organ donation status didn't get it because of who called the shots/how others needed the organs. Most family members also aren't trained to know what care their loved one needs too so they would trust those in charge of their loved ones care explicitly.
      This is genuinely something that comes up from what I hear where organ donors aren't given the same treatment/same life saving treatments others would if those in charge feel their organs are needed or if its discovered that they are a potential match for anyone who needs a transplant. Also some people feeling guilty if its mentioned how their organs could have saved lives if they had died, its horrible.

    In that scenario, Natalie and Will both had good intentions, there's no denying that, but you can't let a man die just so you can harvest his daughter's organs. A tattoo DNR may have meant he felt one way at one point in his life, but you can't use it as finite proof if you don't have proper documentation on his hospital records. In Scotland, we have an "Opt Out" system for organ donation. So essentially, pretty much everyone over the age of 16 is an organ donor unless they've opted out of the system, have recorded a decision not to donate their organs or their family have stated not to have their organs donated. I believe it's a much better system for situations like this where no family members are present to say whether or not they can use the deceased family member's organs. I personally believe every person should be an organ donor if they can be. I'm an organ donor because at the end of the day, if I die then I'm dead and I would rather my organs go towards saving a life than being wasted.

    No way in hell does any hospital in real life accept a tattoo as an advanced directive. Although, if he has absolutely no one left, I suppose there’s nobody to sue the hospital for letting him die.
    Reality aside, Natalie really is a self-absorbed, self-righteous, toxic human being. It is not for her or any other doctor to decide for a patient what is an acceptable quality of life. That is for an individual to decide for themself. And wanting somebody to die so that you can harvest his kid’s organs is a far cry from “do no harm”

      Now we know to stop caring about any and all characters and story lines because they are fake and just in a tv show. Lets not engage with emotions. Lets not discuss anything. Lets not relate to real life similar situations. In fact lets not watch the show at all because whats the point..it's just a show. Fiction. And we are not allowed to engage in any meaningful way with fiction appearently because then the ''it's just a show/its not real life'' police shows up. Honestly, like it's a crime to be able to relate to a fictional character. Isn't the whole reason fiction is a thing is for people to relate too and escape into? Isnt the whole reason people get into shows and story games and books because they care about the characters or story in them? Why do you even watch tv shows if you cant relate to fictional characters in any way or form? And cant just let people discuss how they related to the characters? People like you confuse me.

    That's why I love Chicago Med. It creates all these impossible situations, not only because of the rarity of the diseases (not in this case), but also because of the uniqueness of the patients. How many people do you think will get the words "NOT RESUSCITATE" tattooed on their chest instead of leaving their wishes on a DNR? (I know, otherwise there wouldn't be the ethical dilemma). But also, WHY SOMEONE WOULD SCAR HIS BODY LIKE THAT INSTEAD OF FILLING A DNR? It's crazy.

  • @AlphaOmega804
    @AlphaOmega804 7 місяців тому +3

    I think Natalie is in the wrong profession. Every time something happens with a child, she completely loses her senses. She basically told will to kill a person so that the loss of the child would have some benefit to other children.
    She says he had no quality of life. But if he had been fine, I still think she would have argued to let him die.
    That is too close to human sacrifice in my opinion.
    She should leave medicine and become a social worker. Because I would not trust her as my doctor.

  • @emilythomson418
    @emilythomson418 2 роки тому +16

    Okay genuinely wondering: how can a tattoo be legally binding ? Just because it says something on his body in ink doesn’t make it fact, nor how he could feel in that exact moment, doesn’t mean he doesn’t want to be resuscitated. I have a tattoo that says “baby I’m yours” so am i then considered my doctor’s if they happen to read it ? It is a tattoo.

    • @kaylizzie7890

    "If there's an advance directive I'll follow it", yeah and I actually have a flaming skull for a head, I don't think I've ever seen this man abide a DNR, like this is a very different situation but to get DO NOT RESUSITATE that big would've take time and planning and honestly some sort of plan or record of plan for a DNR to be in the works.

    • @Crazy_Witchy
      @Crazy_Witchy 3 місяці тому

      Exactly, I'm confused how everyone in the comments is against Dr Manning. He clearly meant what he got tattooed, it's in bold ink across his chest which he paid for and Dr Manning is right he was clearly already suicidal to get the tattoo in the first place but then would have woke up with brain damage, a dead 2 yr old and zero family around him for support which in anyones case would have lead him in into a depressive spiral where he likely would have tried to end his life and hated the hospital for not abiding to his right to decide. I get doctors are there to save lives but it's his life at the end of the day and patients have rights to what happens to their body. I'm glad that Natalie managed to get the hospital to agree to let the patients wishes be heard.

    Okay, way I see it…they are both wrong.
    Natalie’s motivations were just. Her way of going about them (trying to pressure a doctor into letting his patient die, guilt tripping him and then going over his head when for all she knew the man could have been on his way to have the tattoo removed)
    Will’s motivations were just. But he’s also not looking at the situation any less subjectively than Natalie. He is right to be angry that she went against his decision, but he should have reported to the authorities himself. In a situation like this where you are too close to the matter you need an outsider perspective.
    And Natalie…honestly, I can’t stand how self righteous she is. I’ve heard a million and in examples of this and her hypocrisy when something similar happens to her. Her problem, so far as I am able to determine, is that she thinks that she is the only one who possibly can be right.
