- The plaintiff rented an apartment from the defendant. When it came time to move in, the date came and went. When the plaintiff finally moved in, the place didn't even have a doorknob, so he's suing for his deposit. The defendant argues the plaintiff just had buyer's remorse.

This was one of my favorite People's Court cases. The Plaintiff knows the laws and set forth to get his money owed.
His response about the stove is why I tell people not to move in a place until everything is fixed upfront. They will decide how much inconvenience you can stand. Don't be nice because they will run with it. You will look up and be like the plaintiff with no door knobs on his place. While the landlord sleeps peacefully behind their locked doors.
The defendant was smirking through the case but when he made it to Harvey he looked like he was about to cry. That was so creepy 😳

I hate to even think that landlords can be this arrogantly shady towards a new tenant but, I experienced this type of crap from landlords decades ago and the best decision that I ever made was buying my 1st home. Whenever anything needs to be fixed or replaced, it's all on me and it gets done right away. And as a homeowner, I don't deal with any restrictions like being a pet owner or where and how elaborate my garden is. 😁😁

Sounds like the defendant's a procrastinator and has a bunch of excuses..I own a small business with with four employees and I had a guy work for me one time and he was late almost every day..In one week he told me he had to go to the hospital his car broke down and his mom's garage started on fire..I had to let him go..He was late 12 times and miss work 4 days in less than 2 months.. The crazy thing is he acted like it was no big deal that he was late that many days and miss that many days..😮

It's all about communication and honesty. Just as the plaintiff said in his exit interview, if the defendant had just been straight up about what was going on, then the plaintiff may have been understanding. Either way, the plaintiff dodged a bullet. Something was off with the defendant. 😳
