Blizzard would be probably fine with this, It they can still sell you $200 mounts on them... Personally I just started a character on Turtle 2 weeks ago and it's great. They just just released a massive balance patch that is still Vanilla flavored. And today I tried Ascension and that is also awesome. Absolutely mind-blowing how they transformed the game into something unique and fun. And the best thing is that both are so different that you can't even compare them, with both having their own strengths. But the best thing about them is that there's no Blizzard.
If Blizz let me construct my own vision of wow. I would welcome their cash shop as a part of the requirement to maintain a realm. A fact of life. Realms with cash shops get more love from Blizz then those without one. Folks that use cash shops fund a lot of this game.
lol I've been talking the past couple days about official private realms in relation to how the original Neverwinter Nights allowed player run servers accessible via Blizz's login credentials. Similar to the PTR process. I was part of a server development team out of Florida for 7 years, "The Turmish Lands" was WoW before there was a WoW. And was just one private server among dozens bringing D&D to the digital realms. There is no single definition for Classic Plus. We all see it different. So it's time for Blizz to allow the players to visualize each, their idea of C+?
@@AmongRevenants they could even manage to merge these servers once or twice a year into a massive cross-realm-reality event kind of like secret wars or else... Or maybe not, was just a random idea...

Could easily connect via a portal/ship. And it could even be broken down further with independent dev teams doing specific cities in Azeroth. Connected to a team doing the wilds of their continent. Skies the limit with creativity in th digital realm. If you can imagine it to begin with... it can probably be handled with code, time, effort and vision. And a world building mentality
I'd probably use this service to try and create essentially a new MMO using a different world, but still WoW's core systems. It's like an MMO devkit, but without a lot of the backend requirements.
Well the idea itself is good, but the player base would be waaay too fragmented. Players would flock to streamer servers, small family and friend groups would choose to play alone on their own servers ; while many of us would in turn be stuck on half populated (at best) servers. I don't see it functioning, wow servers need at least 1500 players in order to function properly.
You will still have access to everything wow. But private servers could be available via the PTR process for those that want C+ , their idea of C+ Private outlaw realms show proof of concept. Time for Blizz to bring them into the fold as legitimate versions of shall we call it "C+". First the Front 60. Then allow the use of xpac assets slowly added to the creation process over years. NWN did the private server process under an official login credential for years. iirc. Steam resurrected the login credentials for NWN and modern servers may still exist. Still have a shelf of server backups for NWN. Problem for me. If I flip back into server developer mode. My monthly sub will never be used to play the game again. It'll go to developing a C+ realm and real-time events with active Game Masters again. I wish there was an announcement similar to what I've posted here. First thing I would change is the faction, race/class restrictions. Replacing it with a 'city-state regional loyalty', which determines your start location. Which comes into play among a world of city-states and regions.
So you’re saying the players want something that would hurt the consolidation of their own base? Sounds like a them problem more than the devs. The devs are simply giving them the tools they’re asking for. Also, if you think the average lazy streamer would put significant time into creating a thoughtful, fleshed out server of their own, you’re hilarious. They’d all just wait for someone else with the creativity and patience to do it, then flock to it like everyone else

Not if you count in the people who aren't playing right now, or who have flocked to the private servers because they cannot play the version of WoW that they want (TBC, WotLK, Legion etc), because official servers do not have those on right now.
If they do this its because Holly signed off on it. Holly came from Everquest and Daybreak Studios allows Everquest private server hosters to create their own servers as long as they explicitely reach out to them with an official authorization letter. They receive specific restrictions on what they can and cant do and they do not provide any support to the server owner. That being said Daybreak servers are WAY better then player-ran servers. But they do allow it. And theyre easily the best way to push EQ players to the live servers because the private servers are complete shit 😂
Its wild to me that someone knowledgeable about WoW and Blizz would even suggest this as a potential future for Classic WoW. This is simply not happening lol
They should just stop trying to make everybody happy. Appeal to the people actually play the game even after honeymoon phase is over instead of going to appeal to everyone because then it becomes what retail is. Making everyone happy is why people asked for classic servers to begin with. Full circle
Genius? Private severs on osrs is the death of the open world most people will flock to the private servers and the bots will stay behind. When jagex announced this on one of their videos, the dislike ratio was huge.
Idk why you are so stuck in this idea of blizzard opening up servers for people to customize themselves, like ya you could make a tbc or wrath plus but you need people to play with for it to work. This is not what we want and I’m so confused why you want it
Nope. I play on those servers BECAUSE I don't want to give that corporation any money. They can do their own thing. I don't want anything to do with them. And I'm not alone with this mindset.
