Thanks a million for this! I was able to resurrect my wife's owned from new machine which fell into disuse many years ago when the usefull zigzag function stopped working. She's so happy too, so huge thanks.
I speeded up the process by letting the machine do the work by my looping a length of ribbon around the shaft so that I was able to apply some gentle pressure to help the spring. Worked a treat! I also applied machine oil everywhere that looks like it moves as the machine has never been serviced. Running the oil down a length of stiff wire (1.6 aluminium welding wire in this csse) enabled highly targeted oiling of those hard to reach bushes.
    Cheers
    Chris

My wife has one of these - but - the zig zag has stopped working. It sews straight lines but no zig or zag.... We have taken this in for repair numerous times (not to an Elna dealer) - it comes back with a huge bill and after a while no zig zag.
Thanks to your video I cleaned those "bearings" with a drop of WD40; wiggled and wiggled; ran the machine as you said and job done. Saved ourselves €100+. Many thanks.

Great to hear you managed to fix it yourself and save some money. Thanks.

You saved my air electronic 69! Thank you so much! This machine is much more complicated than my 1968 Kenmore. When that one seized up, it was easy to oil the points and get it cleaned. I bought my Elna from Facebook marketplace. The lady said she loved the machine and used it for years, but I don't think it was ever oiled. I was so disappointed when the zigzag didn't work and then I couldn't figure it out. With sewing machine oil, a Dollar tree fine paint brush, and the use of my mini hair dryer, I was able to get all of those bearings you showed to loosen up. It will admit, as of right now I have not put fabric under it, but it appears to go all the way over without any resistance. Now I need to take apart the underside to maintenance it. This is a 69 which is a cabinet model. There is a tray that I have to remove and I'm not quite sure how. Oh, I'm so glad you showed the quick release tabs. Mine are different, but they are all over this machine like flat C shapes.

Thank you so much for your work on this video! I followed your instructions and my zigzag is now Quite Spry. I'm an Elna gal, but my beige Elna weighs 29 lbs in the case, so I bought the Air Electronic to take to a sewing class (only 16.5 lbs). I had taken my machine in to have the bobbin race removed and cleaned--the wise old repairwoman does it right in front of me for a bench charge. I was told that the zigzag wasn't working & would take too long to be a bench charge. But the wait for repair is 8 weeks... I could try oiling shiny bearing surfaces & heating them with a hair dryer... But I was concerned about oiling places that should not be oiled. I was So Glad I remembered your beautifully-made video with Molly the Beautiful. I used TriFlow.
Might you make a video that shows all the oiling points, and explains why certain places do/do not need oil? (The manual shows only two--the bobbin race and Elnagraph.)
Thank you from Hilda O'H in Minnesota

I sold these in Uk for two years 1986-88, love them so much, there’s a couple of quirks but such a smooth machine to sew on. And the freearm is nice and low, good shape and almost a flat bed level, compared to the star series. Much to love. And Molly is gorgeous

Would like to thank you so much for your video. I have just been given my elderly mum's machine which is an Elna SU model 68. It hadn't been used for some time and after cleaning and oiling and running sweet, I could not get zigzag to go. Thanks to you, the zig zag is going really well. The jubilee model is very much like the one I have. So happy. Also, you are very clear and concise and hope your wee cat is still going strong.

@@souhelaouarab9120 Not sure in which language to answer 😅. But yes, it worked - not immediately, but letting the oil set over night worked wonders 😍!
Unfortunately I now have another problem : when pushing the foot controller, neither needle nor hand wheel moves. All I get, is some weird noises 😰

Hello there! My Elna (Elly) is just like this one (newly acquired) and your videos are the only ones that are helping me; and I really appreciate it very much!. She's working fine now, except that she's stuck in a long stitch. The adjuster dial for stitch length moves but does not seem to change/shorten the length. Another weird thing is that in reverse, the stitches are extremely extremely close together..and that will not will not fly either! Is there something specific I should do to fix her? Thank you!

Thanks! Ive managed to begin to free up mine, it was very stiff to the point where I couldn't tell whether the cam was engaged or not when I was pushing to the left. Over a couple hours of oiling and moving its almost there but still a bit to go which I'll just run it when i have some more time.
I have the same style clip on presser arm but the foot went missing in transport when I liberated it from my mum. I bought some cheap clip on feet online but these extend out too far with the original attachment, and the feet block the path of the needle... not so universal as I had hoped.

    • @InStitches
      @InStitches  Рік тому

These machines do take a specific, non universal type foot. You should be able to find them online or from your nearest sewing machine dealer. Thanks.

We've got a 3000. must be different because it doesn't move at all. so no cam is driving it. but it moves alright when setting the width so we know it will revolve around the shaft. It is very stiff though. so what is supposed to push it and isn't I don't know and if anyone can tell us or tell us where to find out that'd be great?

Does this one have presser foot pressure adjustment? I want an Elna that does and that has mostly or all metal mechanical parts. I think Molly was glaring at the machine when it got loud.
