- In the Victorian era people had to get a lot more creative when it came to having fun. Sure, there was always reading, parties, and social calls, but some people got into some weird stuff. In this video we will explore strange activities that people in the 1800s did to fill their time, including looking at corpses, fern hunting, summoning the dead, and unwrapping mummies.
Re-uploaded because of an audio issue. I've fixed the problem.

Brilliant work! Your channel is set to boom, no doubt!! Imagery is fantastic, content fascinating, and your sense of humor is just spot on...
Thank you so much!
agree! Just found your channel but it’s giving me life! It’ll pop off for sure…
Only the very rich had mummy parties. I would like to know what the lower middle and middle class did for fun.
People are just as morbid, we just put death in movies now 3:53
I am so happy to have found your channel. Your content is excellent!
Thank you!
Ahhh... That’s why I always see ferns in Victorian home photos.
It probably shouldn’t be comforting to know that humans were casually horrible before the internet, but gosh darn it, it kinda is.
Humans havent changed and it's borh horrifying and reassuring.
But now it can be broadcast globally rather than locally. Before the internet, only your family and friends knew you were crazy, rude or otherwise horrible.
Harry Houdini was famous, aside from his escapes, for exposing psychics.
I would love more about strange hobbies! This was very interesting!
Thanks for sharing this great video.
Please make a part two!!!!
I'm actually working on a part 2 right now! :)
@@Historidame yay!!!
I’d definitely like to see another video on this
I do plan to make one eventually!

I had no idea about the ferns. I did know the rest though.
Your voice is so soothing…
Thank you!
Much better ❤❤
I wonder if Fern from Peter Pan is so named after this activity ? It was written in 1904 so definitely just after queen Victoria’s death but surely influenced by the time period
Oh, gee, if you weren’t one of the few to get an amulet, you get some smelly mummy linen for your door prize. I would be pissed, and I would never go to one again!! These people were so rich, I would be very embarrassed as a hostess, giving a couple of ladies amulets, and the rest dirty, smelly, mummy linen!! How cheap and stingy!!
I don't call it medium ship though cause it's not conscious, usually i dont understand why i have something like moonlight sonata in my head or why i know certain weird things about random stuff. When i was a kid I would know exactly when an older house was built or i would start saying certain things or adjusting things that a passed on loved one would have done.
Why every time i start talking about this kinda stuff my head and eyes start glazing ger and now I can't type
I have never seen any sign of a Egypt craze in Victorian times.
man i hope this is satire. look up egyptmania if you’re serious
That's surprising
I just watched two of the videos on your channel and I’ve decided Ed to add my name to your growing channel
And good luck in the future with as I really enjoyed the two I watched enough so that I decided to scubribe to it myself and had to tell you to keep up the great videos.
Thank you!
Your welcome too keep up the good work you’ve been doing with your videos.
So when they find a fern, what do they do with it??
I wonder who the winners of the amulets were chosen?
What is the difference between that and "ghost" parties?
Did they charge money for the morgue visits?
I didn't see anything about that come up in my research, so I assume it was free. It would be likely that was the case since the police wanted as many people there as possible to help identify unknown persons.
Its music that angels and the dead that visit me, its how accessable any song or music is at our finger tips. Any song at all.
They like the Google hub because i can command it to play Song ever published will start playing..
One time i kept channeling Moonlight Sonata and i had no idea then i remembered my grandmum was a concert puanist before the War and becoming a nurse and that was her way of saying hello.
Duplicate?
No, I had to delete the original due to an audio error. It should be fixed now.
