@Huon Sainsbury Well, the colonies were getting taxed way harder bc of the Seven Years War. And most of those taxes did go to Great Britain. The issue was taxation without representation. While there certainly are corrupt politicians and bad practices compared to 1775 Americans are much more free. People are just being babied so hard they can't see how good they have it.
@Huon Sainsbury Britain wasn't protecting the colonies. They were challenging a French claim in America. And France had no way of actually winning the Seven Years War anyway since there claim was nothing compared to reality. That's why the French used their good relations with most of the Tribes in the area to bolster the military effectiveness of their army. Point being that the war wasn't about protecting the 13 colonies. It was a challenge offered by Great Britain to see whether or not the French would secure their claim. And the French lost.

My favorite part of a history exam is when you know all the historical events that happened but you fail because you didn’t memorize the date of them
What kinda history classes are you taking? All of my history courses have been about what happened, what led to it, the implications, and analysis. Remembering date is secondary as long as you know which era it was.

When you start a revolution for 2% tax increase but then you see yourself being taxed 37% :
Congratulations on missing the entire point of the American Revolution. The Revolution was not about taxes, but about Taxes *without representation.* Had the Americans received some sort of representation, or come to some sort of agreement where they agreed to levy their own taxes and send it on to London, the Revolution wouldn't have happened.
It was the fact that the Americans who before were left pretty much to their own devices were now under stifling economic and had their autonomy stripped away. For example a fledging industrial complex with quickly stamped out by the British who wanted the colonies to only export raw goods and be forced to rely on England for imported manufactured goods. The colonies which before experience relative self-autonomy then experience Britain beginning to actually enforce its rule over the colonies and also begin redrawing colonial maps and also forcing their own governors on the colony (an example being when Britain combined the New England colonies into 1 bigger colony). The biggest problem was simply that Britain was like the Dad who left when the kids were young and basically let them govern themselves until they turned 18 when he showed up and started trying to act like their parent again.

True facts. Pair that with the fact that they weren't even doing a good job of being a parent in a more general sense, that just made the situation much much worse.
Had the British taken a more flexible approach to the situation the Revolution could've easily been avoided.

@@shaunenwright7872 Are you talking about the current state of American industry as most of it leaves for foreign shores because if you are then the situation is not the same. In colonial America, it was made illegal to basically have any industry at all and it was especially illegal to conduct trade with anyone excluding Britain all so that Britain could exploit the colonies for raw materials at cheap and then sell manufactured goods at a premium. The current situation is one where due to both regulations and unions resulting in manufacturing being too expensive here so it moves to foreign shores where it can instead be manufactured for cheap and imported for cheap. To fill its place America has instead completely set up as the leading industry in exporting ideas. Whether that is through media like Hollywood or with new inventions and devices. Yes, it can be easy to see it as a bad thing as the US loses its industry, but as the cost of manufacturing machines goes down and the cost of human labor goes up all around the world it will eventually return back to US soil in the form of automated manufacturing.
