When Kate MacKinnon left SNL, her final scene was this character (Ms. Rafferty) being taken up into an alien spaceship, and that was how she exited the show. Very appropriate!
SNL did several episodes of this skit all including Ryan and it gets funnier for each additional skit. Ryan gets manhandled in a few of them and it is Priceless!
Ryan Gosling breaks up in every skit especially in 2024. HIs excuse, "I have a condition, when I see something funny I laugh." ua-cam.com/video/NkZ2fguNNEc/v-deo.html
You have to watch all the encounter skits! Kate McKinnon is HYSTERICAL, these skits are my go to when I need cheering up. Really anything Kate does is a go to.
Brit here - I love SNL, too! Their UA-cam channel uploads a playlist of the full episode every single time. I've watched every episode from the last 10+ years on here lol. Close Encounters is an awesome one, and it has like 4 more (I guess you could call them sequels?). Highly recommend them all! The Mrs Rafferty character is in all of them btw and is equally hilarious in them all!
Please watch SNL skits Our Great Nation and “Please don’t destroy three sad virgins” featuring Taylor Swift! The SNL Beavis and Butthead skit also is funny! Just so you know there are also several close encounter skits like this one that are even funnier!
That was great and she is really talented and funny. If you wanna fall off your chair laughing check out, “NPR's Delicious Dish: Schweddy Balls - SNL” With Alec Baldwin. I can barely breathe watching it anytime it comes on.
Kate McKinnon is fabulous. Ryan Gosling was probably hosting the show that week. As for the water by the Pentagon, that's the Potomac River and then there's a man made waterway, closer, that the Army Corps built, I think.
Please react to classic Saturday Night Live from the late '70s /early '80s, when SNL ruled Saturday Night television. If you think it's funny now, you'll find the older stuff even funnier.
If you want to see a classic where every single cast member is breaking, watch the Disney World "Debbie Downer" sketch with Rachel Dratch. . You will love it.
I highly suggest you watch all 6 or 7 episodes of the Close Encounters from SNL. I have all of them bunched together on my Best SNL Sketches of All Time Playlist on my channel and I'm sure someone put them all together in a playlist of their own on a different channel somewhere on UA-cam.
SNL tends to have a very low hit rate on their skits, but its mainly down to the fact that coming up with so much material on a nearly weekly basis for any extended period of time is pretty tough. It's a good training ground as a result, though; the movies by cast members who left tend to be funnier just because they have way more time to refine.
Just adding to the commentors preaching the good word about the follow up with Gosling. That one is the one that catapolted this skit into the stratosphere. Kate does him dirty and it is awesome every step of the way. There is like 6 in all and not a lemon in the bunch. Kate rules them all.
People in the comments here are saying that Kate went off script for this sketch, but how does one make stuff up on the fly during a live television broadcast and come off like the dialogue is not being conjured out of thin air? That would be amazing if it was true. Can't tell if it's ad-libbing or not. Unless this was a case where the writers let her do whatever she wanted, like the character Johnny in the "Airplane!" movies from the 1980s. They found actor Stephen Stucker so funny that they said, "We're going to have the other actors feed you lines and you can basically respond whatever way you want during your scenes in the movie". He was spectacular.
Car parking here is in some places below the ground. It depends on the architecture of what size body of water will threaten it or if they are running out of room lol and have to stack like 50 or more cars on top of each other…. Most of The people around here have 2 or more cars…we have 9 at my house. So it seems logical ? Plus save on land buying and building..
You guys need to watch the original cast versions from 1975 and 1976. Those were the best SNL. Most young people today have never seen them so they cannot give you this advice.
Ryan Gosling can never hold it together. He was on again this year before his movie "The Fall Guy" started. He breaks up in every skit on that show. This is the first of 3 about the close encounters. The last one was after he and Kate were in the Barbie movie. This is the last one. ua-cam.com/video/kELDEdMbkyg/v-deo.html
If you really want to enjoy SNL sketches you need to watch older episodes from the 1975 -1980 which were the original casts and the ones with Eddie Murphy from the mid 80's. They were very edgy.
Good one. Kate McKinnon's 6 'Rafferty Encounters' sketches ① are a favourite series of SNL sketches (I enjoyed Alec Baldwin's baker "Pete Schweddy"). McKinnon delivers the jokes, but Cecily Strong keeps Gosling in the game. Gosling is in 2 of the 6. They're all pretty good, in the same area (time travel, near-death, paranormal, close encounters). McKinnon does almost anything for the joke. Best Wishes, Chaps. ☮ The next favourite is _Another Close Encounter - SNL_ ua-cam.com/video/kELDEdMbkyg/v-deo.html with Ryan Gosling again. ① All 6 sketches: _SNL - Encounters - Kate McKinnon_ ua-cam.com/play/PLat4Q29WCa67TM1oi56SvIsAU_xhXnP6o.html
SNL have compilations of the 6 sketches, 3 in each: _Every Close Encounter Ever: Part 1 - SNL_ ua-cam.com/video/xNnM4Yyc_C8/v-deo.html _Every Close Encounter Ever: Part 2 - SNL_ ua-cam.com/video/TKUpo7RrN3E/v-deo.html Best Wishes. ☮
The SNL Cold Open this past Saturday was awesome, with Dana Carvey playing Joe Biden, Maya Rudolph playing Kamala Harris, Jim Gaffigan as Tim Walz, etc. 😂 It’s called “Harris and Trump Rallies cold open”.
When Kate MacKinnon left SNL, her final scene was this character (Ms. Rafferty) being taken up into an alien spaceship, and that was how she exited the show. Very appropriate!
Omg I never knew that. I need to see it! Lmao
I think that was actually during the cold open of her last episode as a cast member, but it's still a good way for her to go out.
I think I cried lol...yeah I remember that
SNL did several episodes of this skit all including Ryan and it gets funnier for each additional skit. Ryan gets manhandled in a few of them and it is Priceless!
This! His facial expressions when she starts getting familiar are hilarious.
Not all with Ryan.
one was w Liev Schrieber very funny.
Look, it wasn’t my worst Wednesday night.
@@Lisa-x8sand I believe Jason Bateman also
Kate MacKinnon riffing with no script is the best thing ever. She's brilliant. Even Ryan Gossling on the right can't hold character.
Ryan Gosling breaks up in every skit especially in 2024. HIs excuse, "I have a condition, when I see something funny I laugh." ua-cam.com/video/NkZ2fguNNEc/v-deo.html
😂😂😂😂😅😅😅😅😅
I'd never heard "prune chute" before this episode ... thank you Kate.
Bwaaaaahaha 🤣✌️🎶😎
One skit got me when she said "Grassy Knoll and Gassy Hole".
Ryan cracking up every sketch makes it funnier. Props to her for keeping a straight face 😂
You have to watch all the encounter skits! Kate McKinnon is HYSTERICAL, these skits are my go to when I need cheering up. Really anything Kate does is a go to.
This is on of my favorite skits! I love the ones where the cast and the host have trouble keeping it together. Kate McKinnon is so good in this!
'Not my worst Wednesday night' 😂😂😂😂
I couldn't get through something like this without cracking up, I'm not surprised Ryan Gosling lost it 😂😂😂
I lost it at the one where she says "27 and still stopping traffic"😂😂😂
That woman, Kate? She KILLS me. 80 new terms for my naughty bits I've never heard before....
There are several more like this one. Some imo even funnier 😊
Yeah I agree! They should watch the series of these. They get funnier!
The Close Encounter skits are some of my recent favorites 😂
Brit here - I love SNL, too! Their UA-cam channel uploads a playlist of the full episode every single time. I've watched every episode from the last 10+ years on here lol.
Close Encounters is an awesome one, and it has like 4 more (I guess you could call them sequels?). Highly recommend them all!
The Mrs Rafferty character is in all of them btw and is equally hilarious in them all!
Kate McKinnon did eight of those close encounter sketches in total! It's always funny!
As Brits, you have to watch the SNL Washington’s dream skit. The first one! You will get a kick out of the sarcasm of it all
Yes, this is the best
Have you guys checked out Black Jeopardy from SNL? There are about four or hive of them, but the one featuring Tom Hanks seems to be the most popular.
Came on to say you must watch the SNL “Black Jeopardy” ep w Tom Hanks, if you haven’t already. It’s the best.
You have to watch all of them. Gosling simply cannot hold it together, while McKinnon knocks it out of the park.
One of my favorite skits, so funny
I love when Ryan Gosling hosts because he's always so funny. He was in a Beavis and Butthead sketch a few months ago that's hilarious.
Watching Heidi completely lose it was priceless. One of those skits that will be shown every anniversary show, etc.
You need to check out the best of Kate MacKinnon
She's so brilliant!
You gotta watch the other “Close Encounters” sketches. Kate shoved her face where it doesn’t belong…well not on live tv. Was hilarious!
This is a top tier snl skit for me. Makes me crack up every time I see it.
She's amazing. Even her comedian friends couldn't keep straight face. 😂😂 "My knockers stuff" hHa
This just might be the Funniest skit ever on SNL .
I can barely breathe watching it anytime it comes on.
you should watch the ones where they all break character lol. they’re the best ones.
THE CLOSE ENCOUNTERS AND ABDUCTIONS ARE HILARIOUS!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The Californians is a great skit - as long as you know the numbers of the freeways in Southern California 😁
Kate McKinnon is fabulous. Ryan Gosling was probably hosting the show that week.
As for the water by the Pentagon, that's the Potomac River and then there's a man made waterway, closer, that the Army Corps built, I think.
Wells For Boys is a sketch I go back to from time to time.
Definitely do the other ones. I think there are 2-3 more and they are great!
I love these reactions!
There's eight and counting of these 'Close Encounter" sketches.
My fav skit from this show love it
Mine too! Kate McKinnon is brilliant in this one
This is a family favorite, so happy to watch your reaction to it. You might enjoy First Impressions Court with Chance the Rapper.
The Californians is a good series of SNL skits
Check out SNL’s Black Jeopardy! My faves are the ones with Tom Hanks and Chadwick Boseman.
Watch the Black Jeopardy SNL skits, particularly the Chadwick Boseman and Tom Hanks episodes. 😂😂😂
Please react to classic Saturday Night Live from the late '70s /early '80s, when SNL ruled Saturday Night television. If you think it's funny now, you'll find the older stuff even funnier.
Kate is one of the few bright spots in modern SNL. Who are the other bright spots? I've no clue, but there has to be a few....right?
If you want to see a classic where every single cast member is breaking, watch the Disney World "Debbie Downer" sketch with Rachel Dratch. . You will love it.
"Van Down by the River", Schweaty Balls, Synchronized swimming, Cheeseburger, and many others.
Here's an SNL skit about the royal wedding. Kate McKinnon plays the queen.
There are several of these and they're all awesome.
😂😂one of my favs
Watch the Dooneese skits with Kristin Wiig! They are from mid 2000's and spoof the Lawrence Welk show. They always crack me up!😂
The one on the far left was almost losing it from time to time.
Ryan Gosling did lose it for a bit too.😂😅
I haven't cared for (or about) SNL in decades.
Kate McKinnon is a national treasure... She just has that moxy to pull this off. Not many do.
Really enjoy your reaction videos. Keep up the great work and insight !
I've been watching Che and Jost Anchors on the SNL Show as News Anchors. Its almost years now it started 1975. 😅😅😮
Hi Pops...thank you for giving this SNL episode a whirl ! Great channel & reactions ! Love from Carmel, Indiana ! ♥🤍💙
Th next skit in this series is "Another Close Encounter." Its even funnier than this one.
Common sense😂80 is too old , but not 79…..common sense 😂😂😂😂😂
Check out Ryan in the more recent SNL "Beavis and Butthead" skit!
Prune chute.
That’s all.

Leave it to a Brit to compliment a landmark by citing the vast amount of car parking 😂
Hahaha so true
Find Christopher Walken episode of Colonel Angus or Janet Jackson in the Corksoakers skit.Way funnier.
I knew there must be someone still watching SNL somewhere.
I love Kate McKinnon! I totally miss her now that she's gone from SNL
Please review Angela Johnsons nail salon. It is so funny
Watch the SNL skit "Washington's Dream". The one from last year, then the second one that recently came out. 😂
People in the comments here are saying that Kate went off script for this sketch, but how does one make stuff up on the fly during a live television broadcast and come off like the dialogue is not being conjured out of thin air? That would be amazing if it was true. Can't tell if it's ad-libbing or not.

That's the Delaware River, George Washington croosed it by boat on Christmas morning, just to kill Englishman...😅😅😅
This one’s alright, but you should find the 1st one of these they did. 🤣🤣🤣

Please watch the following Weekend Update characters: Cecilia Gimenez, Cathy Anne, Drunk Uncle, and Angela Merkel.
Kate is one of a kind.
The water adjacent to the Pentagon is the Potomac River. The Pentagon is actually in Virginia. Across the river to the North is DC.
Please, please look at Another Close Encounter. Gosling breaks so beautifully
You guys need to watch the original cast versions from 1975 and 1976. Those were the best SNL. Most young people today have never seen them so they cannot give you this advice.
The original were not the best. The whole cast was like seven people.
Kate is one of the biggest talents SNL Has ever seen.
Yoga class with Will Farrell was priceless but a couple of times more X rated than this, if you can even find it.
Good job here though, cats -
U oughta watch the best of with the greats like Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, Eddie Murphy, Dana Carvey etc. Their careers started there
The show just premiered their 50th season.
This is one of the very few funny skits on SNL in the last 20 years, late 80s to 2000, are the greatest years of Saturday Night Live
The sequel is even funnier. Poor Ryan.
Potomac River in back of the Pentagon
Check out and the Californians with bill harder, Fred artisan and Kristen whig
If you really want to enjoy SNL sketches you need to watch older episodes from the 1975 -1980 which were the original casts and the ones with Eddie Murphy from the mid 80's. They were very edgy.
Kate McKinnon was very good at making regulars and guests break character.

The SNL Cold Open this past Saturday was awesome, with Dana Carvey playing Joe Biden, Maya Rudolph playing Kamala Harris, Jim Gaffigan as Tim Walz, etc. 😂 It’s called “Harris and Trump Rallies cold open”.
Long John Silver was supposedly a pirate? It was the name of a chain that sold fish 'n chips. I don't think they are around
any more.
They're all over the U.S.
Love their chicken planks!
You guys need to do the one about the ghosts next please
CHESAPEAKE IS A HUGE DELTA, BAYS, ETC.👍🏼👍🏼
You need to watch the Schweddy Balls skit with Alec Baldwin.
There is a part 2 to this.
Gotta look for colonel angus
What do you guys think about SMACK THE PONY?
Since SNL went to shit 15+ years ago and the humor went sour im sure brits love it now
Fun fact: The Pentagon was built during Segregation so they had to make white and black bathrooms so now it has twice as many bathrooms as needed.
Watch Close Encounter skits 2 and 3.
