Christopher Walken was on a talk show one time and he told how this skit follows him around, he said he was in a restaurant in China and a guy leaned over and said to Christopher “do you know what this salad needs?” So Christopher played along and asked him what it needed and the guy said “More Cowbell!”
Jimmy Fallon talked about how in rehearsal Wills shirt fit hit but on the night this aired unbeknownst to the cast he asked for the smallest shirt they had and that’s why Fallon was laughing so hard
If he said that, he was being full of it. LOL It was clearly Will's reaction to the "Don't blow this for us, Gene" and the shove that came with it that broke him.
@@janna2245 I read that he did that on purpose. The staff gave him a shirt that fit him and he asked for one a lot smaller.... thinking it would be funnier. And it definitely was
This was from a time I didn’t watch SNL either. Bought a dvd with a “best of” featuring Christopher Walken, watched with my youngest daughter and we were laughing so much! Even now, we’ll say “more cowbell” with a wink whenever we hear the song. 😽🎶
How the Hell did someone even come up with this? It doesn't sound even remotely funny on paper, but it's so well executed it becomes one of the funniest skits ever. I can't wait to see what SNL comes up with for their 50th anniversary next year.
Will Ferrell and his friend, playwright Donnell Campbell, wrote it. The idea was Will's and Donnell just helped him turn the concept into a sketch bit.
Hahaha!! I saw this SNL Skit Live when it first aired. One of my favorites!! Great reaction!! I only know one song with some Cowbell, The Turtles "She'd Rather Be With Me" 1967
one of my favorite snl skits. I sampled Walken saying his famous line about a Fever & put it in a House track a few months ago (its a remix of Kool & The Gang's "Open Sesame"
😂😂😂 I had to watch this last night after watching your reaction. That lead me to Will Ferrell on the Jimmy Fallen late night show. Talking about how Christopher Walken said that this skit ruined his life! 😂😂😂 ❤✌️ The shirt is a character all its own!!
OMG! I’m so glad u guys started doing SNL skits! You guys will love “traffic altercation”,have u done that yet? There are a ton of hilarious SNL to do!
Iconic actor stage & screen. Talented dancer. Walken strangely will most be remembered for serious drama role in The Deer Hunter & this exact opposite ridiculous skit.
I'll always remember Chris Walken for the best, most unhinged portrayal of an archangel EVER. He played the archangel Gabriel in the movie "The Prophecy", which also featured Viggo Mortensen's Satan, another fantastic portrayal.
@@chrisjamieson3452 He was great in that! He was also great in "The Dead Zone" as Johnny Smith. That little smile when he asks "You mean I'm going to die? When?" was just heartbreaking.
As someone else mentioned, Christopher Walken is a trained dancer. If you want to see his moves, check out the Fatboy Slim music video for their song "Weapon of Choice" (the song oddly has the theme of book/movie "Dune"--if you listen to the lyrics you'll catch it). But Walken dances throughout the whole music video & he's got some moves.
Randy Bachman of the Guess Who had a show on cbc radio called Randy Bachman's Vinyl Tap. The theme of one of his shows was songs that featured cow bells. The first song was Don't Fear The Reaper, except he played this skit and blended the actual so that it flowed with the end of the skit. The second song I believe was Honky Tonk Women by the Rolling Stones.
Christopher Walken is so funny, and this skit was just perfect for him. And you guys certainly did it justice! Great reaction video. I’m loving you guys, keep it up. And yes, I think the cowbell does play throughout the whole song, or at least several sections of the song. They just fade it to the background.
I don't know if anyone else mentioned this but later SNL had Queens of the Stone Age as the musical guest and when they played Little Sister (the song starts with a plastic 'wood' block played by the drummer, not a cowbell) Will Ferrell who was no longer a cast member I believe came out dressed as Gene and played his cowbell. It was a great callback!
The only part of this that might make it more humorous to some people, is that if you grew up listening to rock, post-70s, and have heard this song over the years, you might have always wondered, "What's with that cowbell?". So it hits home.
Born in 1958, and the clanking of the cowbell has been a favorite sound since I began to give music the attention it deserves. The original song by Blue Oyster Cult was a part of my education in sound. Now I have a playlist with a hard clanking sound in every song. Not all are from cowbell, because I've found that many cultures have a hard metallic clank. But it started with the cowbell in rock-n-roll. Peace 💚
After this skit Queens of the Stone Age performed. Will Farrell, still in the costume, got on stage with the band and played and danced and let that flesh belt/muffin top flop. I don’t know how but the Queens of the Stone Age went on like it was normal. It was a great period but also funny as hell!! Tears rolling down now thinking about it! 😂
😆 🤣 😂 😂😂😂 ... love that skit!!! If you guys seriously want to laugh, you have to watch Step Brothers. Will Ferrell is in it. That movie is hysterical!!
Christopher Walken was on a talk show one time and he told how this skit follows him around, he said he was in a restaurant in China and a guy leaned over and said to Christopher “do you know what this salad needs?” So Christopher played along and asked him what it needed and the guy said “More Cowbell!”
EVERY TIME I hear this song, all I hear is the cowbell throughout the whole song, ever since this skit came out the song has changed forever for me.
Yeah I never noticed it before this, but now I can't help but hear it.
@enigmamz I know! I love the song, but this skit just totally changes it
The genius in this is the physical comedy by Will and Walken’s delivery.
My favorite SNL skit but ever since then whenever I hear this song this is all I think of lol
I can’t hear this song anymore without busting out laughing
Walken + Ferrell = Comedy Gold (Plated Diapers)
Timeless. Classic. Somehow it gets even funnier the more you watch it.
The "I gotta fever" line is just classic.
and calling Will Ferrell "baby" repeatedly, just before he delivers that one, is somehow the perfect setup
“What’s that mean?” will never not make me laugh.
Perfect ending to a perfect sketch.
When this appeared on SNL , we had a kegger party, every one was laughing so hard that people were on floor spilling bears! MORE COW BELL!😅
Jimmy Fallon talked about how in rehearsal Wills shirt fit hit but on the night this aired unbeknownst to the cast he asked for the smallest shirt they had and that’s why Fallon was laughing so hard
I was going to tell people that I thought it was hilarious thanks for telling them!
If he said that, he was being full of it. LOL It was clearly Will's reaction to the "Don't blow this for us, Gene" and the shove that came with it that broke him.
@@Ray_____ Fallon even said it
What makes Will Farrell great is his ability to humiliate himself for our enjoyment.
He makes any actor break character
It's the gut that gets me
@@janna2245 I read that he did that on purpose. The staff gave him a shirt that fit him and he asked for one a lot smaller.... thinking it would be funnier. And it definitely was
Saw Blue Oyster Cult when I was 8 months pregnant!!! Son turned out as a musician!!!👍🏼🎸🎸
On Tour Forever !
What instrument does he play?? and please don't tell me he plays the....... well, you know....
One of the best SNL skits! 😆
Yay! So happy you guys decided to watch! It's a skit that never gets old for me! 😂 As always, great reaction! Much love from Oregon! ❤
Hair of the dog by Nazareth has more cowbell.
This was from a time I didn’t watch SNL either. Bought a dvd with a “best of” featuring Christopher Walken, watched with my youngest daughter and we were laughing so much! Even now, we’ll say “more cowbell” with a wink whenever we hear the song.
😽🎶
Christopher Walken is a legend
You gotta a fever & the only prescription is more subscribtion bells!😂

The way Walken says CAOW-bell makes me laugh every single time 🤣
It definitely has cowbell.
Someone created sheet music for the cowbell part, it’s just the same note a thousand times.
What is funny too is seeing Walken watching in that little room and giggling his ass off.
Walken is such a legend.
Who knew that a song that was so dark needed more cowbell
I'm amazed how SNL could take such a thought-provoking, sad song and make it hysterical.
It truly is a classic skit.
Walton's "The Continental" is Hilarious😂😂😂😂😂
Hahaha!! I saw this SNL Skit Live when it first aired. One of my favorites!! Great reaction!! I only know one song with some Cowbell, The Turtles "She'd Rather Be With Me" 1967
Playing Cowbell is part of my workout routine. Its the only prescription I need.
When y'all did the Blue Oyster Cult ''Don't Fear the Reaper'' song, I saw that Fenom202 got a smirk on his face when the cowbell came in lol
The cowbell played a big part and was also appropriate in "You Can't Do That" by the Beatles.
Ex-Oregonian who escaped to Mexico 🙂
Every time I hear this song, I think of this skit!!!
Chris is what makes this all work!! I got a fever!!!!
one of my favorite snl skits. I sampled Walken saying his famous line about a Fever & put it in a House track a few months ago (its a remix of Kool & The Gang's "Open Sesame"
I got a fever! 😂
Colonel Angus is a must watch for Christopher Walken’s SNL.
Saturday Night Live was so popular at one point that the bars would empty early on Saturday nights...was the beginning of TVs in bars
So glad you guys did this. It was so funny and stupid and quotable. Hilarious.
My all time favorite skit!
😂😂😂 I had to watch this last night after watching your reaction. That lead me to Will Ferrell on the Jimmy Fallen late night show. Talking about how Christopher Walken said that this skit ruined his life! 😂😂😂 ❤✌️
The shirt is a character all its own!!
Your reactions are so much better when Ollie enjoys himself.... maybe more videos with cowbell 😎😎
😂just heard this song the other day and i can’t get through it without cracking up .. this skit has taken over that song

Colonial Angus is another great Walken skit on SNL.
You will hurt yourself laughing with Colonel Angus
I'm partial to The Continental. Peace, all 💕
Everyone needs to see this clip, but more importantly, everyone needs more cowbell.
Fellas!!...you're gonna want that cowbell.
Bwahaha...classic skit! Nice one IZ ☘️

the old prospector in the army sketch is hilarious. aslo starring Sir William Farel
I would go crazy with that in my ear
Baby, baby, just put up with it for 6 minutes and you will be wearing gold plated ear plugs!
This skit Reminds me so much of Chicago I’m a man live at Tanglewood 1970 there is a whole lot of cowbell in that Performance
You guys had me 'crying' on this one.🤣
Wait. How could you guys NOT hear it???? 😂😂😂😂

Blue Oyster Cult loved this skit
SPACE PANTS with Peter Dinklage and Gwen Stephani.

Gotta check out Will Farrel in the SNL skit Casual Friday where he wears his patriotic thing to the office!😅
Own the Christopher Walken SNL comp and it's pure gold. ❤

Cheech & Chong "Earache my eye". Rock on THIS IS IT
“My mama is trying to tell me how to live…Badada, badada, du, du, dah…but I don’t listen to her, my head is like a sieve…”
Some things you can’t unsee. Yikes. Walken is priceless.
Classic skit, still hilarious.
The best of Will and Christopher
🐮🔔😂
Brilliant! I Love this one esp...Thanks, Y'all made my day!
anytime that song comes on lol
The cowbell isn't just at the beginning.
I got a drum kit when I was like 8 or 9 years old so like 1977-78 and it had a cowbell. lol
This one just gets funnier the more you watch it. When you know it's coming, seeing Will Ferrel turn on is pure gold.
Great reaction video, guys! Just a friendly reminder that Blue Oyster Cult gold lays in their first 4 albums. Keep up the good work!
Now you have to do, around Halloween, David S Pumpkins. It's great for no reason.
I gotta have more cow bell! 😂
Always cracks me up
After watching their reaction to Fear the Reaper yesterday
This hysterical 🤣 😂 ❤❤❤

When Queens of the Stone Age played SNL a few years later they had Will Farell come out and play cowbell during one of their songs
I'd like to point out that this song is REALLY good.
But the skit is hilarious.
More Cowbell !!! :-)
That skit was some funny shit! 😎🤟
The cowbell IS throughout the whole song.
Watching Jimmy Fallon try not to laugh is hilarious.
I second that comment. Also from Oregon!
Yes once you hear this skit and you hear this song thats all you hear is the cow bell..
LOL. Nice!!!
