So many of our conversations were like this. He had a great sense of humor, but really could not talk about feelings. Just football. He was 86. I feel like this was the message he wanted to send.
This is one of the realest sketches SNL has done. It captures old school dads to a tee. Getting them to open up and show vulnerability is like pulling teeth. I guess it’s because they grew up in a time when feelings weren't talked about much. They just did what they had to do because they didn’t have the luxury sit around and be introspective and ask themselves how things made them feel.

Were you in your 20s back in the 70s? If not, you can only infer that from what you heard from people who were, and assume everything they said was 100% accurate. That, or, you just assumed. That's like saying it isn't that bad for people in their 20s today. You know you. Everyone else's experiences at different times is just hearsay. Again, even if you were in your 20s in the 70s, speak for yourself.
😂 It's because you're taught from an early age as a boy Not to show emotion and especially don't show weakness. Because you'll get made fun of by men and women alike. My dad passed away during the pandemic. He had a stroke, then lost his vision, then had another stroke. He was suffering from dementia at the end and the last time I spoke to him on the phone (because of hospital rules I couldn't see him) he was totally gone. He wasn't himself and it broke my heart. He was such a kind man and great father. He took care of 4 kids after he finally won custody, because my mom was a physically abusive NIGHTMARE. This makes me miss him so much. If your dad is alive and if he is a good man and loves you, give him a call.
I hear you. I lost my dad in the summer of 2020. He didn't die of COVID, but all of the rules made everything so much harder. It was the reason I missed his final moments. It even forced his funeral to be cut short. He was a wonderful man. He kept his mind until near the very end, but he got uncharacteristically cranky. We both thought he had a few more months than he did, and we didn't know that our last phone call would be our last phone call. We spent a good chunk of it discussing different routes for a cross-country trip I'd taken with my wife, and he was surprisingly upset to learn that we'd driven through a relatively rural area. ("What if you had a breakdown!" "But we didn't have a breakdown, and we were never more than a few miles away from other people." "That's not the point!") It was a ridiculous conversation, but it was his way of expressing love and concern. I wish I'd been more present for it, and I still regret that. Anyway. I'm sorry for your loss, and I'm sorry that it was under those conditions. It sounds like your dad was an amazing, stand-up guy.
Fate can be so cruel to the greatest people. But the legacy remains: that you and your three siblings got to thrive. He sacrificed so that four wonderful people could safely be themselves. And his legacy is there - because your heart works, thanks to him. I'm sorry for your loss, but I'm glad you can share his story and can be here to thrive and share a moment with the world. All the best to you and your fam.
Ugh the tears.. 😢 My dad is dying.. I spent the entire last summer watching baseball with him and as sad and painful as it is I’m glad I got to have that time with him.
My stepdad thinks I watch a lot of baseball. I just watch the highlights reels so I have something to talk about with him. I haven't watched a complete game since 2008.
@@danielpittman889 Thanks for sharing that. It helped me decide to watch Formula 1 highlights for the same reason. I considered it a few times but would end up being selfish choosing to watch my fav things. Now I'll do the same with my dad 😀

I am so far from my family and I doubt I will spend as much time with them anymore. I just miss my dad sometimes. but we dont talk about it.
We came from a time where feelings didn't matter much. We all were better off. I'd say to my grandfather, about something, I don't think that's rite and he would say good for you, let's wash my car. Just saying
Because there are only so many different storylines that the simulation has, eventually everyone programmed with the same dad ends up finding each other to verify the quantifiable data streamlined through the bacon-strip with ostrich snout legs that the apricot bootleggers are not sniffing the kumquats as expected by the algorithm.
I started watching SNL in the early 90s and can honestly say this is the first skit that ever actually made me emotional while simultaneously LOLing. Who wrote this one? Absolutely brilliant. Much love to all the Dads out there 🫶
This reminds me of when I'd talk to my grandfather. He'd always start conversations with "How's the car running?" He was the greatest man I've ever known and I miss him every day.
"I'll let you go" is what my stepdad used to always say on the phone. I never wanted to go, but he always said that. I missed being a happy family after my mom separated from him. I miss him. Stephen Kirchner RIP | Died 2019.
@@MatthewTheWanderer Don't wait very long. One day he won't be able to pick up the phone even if he has/had the intention to do so. Some of us have to accept that we're the ones who will be the ones reaching out, showing some emotion, some expression of care. Some dads just can't bring it out though its there (my dad for example).
@@zerocal76 My dad is an insufferable asshole. The thought of calling him again for any reason makes me sad and anxious. My dad has never had trouble expressing emotion and neither have I. That's not our problem. I used to call him on a regular basis, even though I often regretted it. I can't deal with his emotional and mental abuse and bigotry anymore. Same with my mom and 2 or my 3 siblings. I really hate the idea that I always have to be the one to "reach out" to people (family, friends, relatives, etc.). I'm introverted and have social anxiety, damn it! Why must I have to reach out first EVERY time!? Yet, that is how it is. No one reaches out to me and I don't reach out to them, so I remain socially isolated.

today is 5 year anniversary since my dad passed away. I miss you so much. I wish I could rewind the time and talk to you more.
Asking how the car is doing and the "I'll let you go" hit a little too close to home, lol.
my dad loves bill burr and sounds exactly like this when i call. always asking about the damn car
I slapped my own face when Burr brought up the polyps. 😂
Shout out to the DADS!! ❤
Great sketch. They always do great Mother’s Day sketches. First time I’ve seen something for dads. Absolutely loved it.
Mothers have a lot more to say I guess.
I swear, Kenan and Devon have the best comedic chemistry! 😊
I was wondering if Devon is Keenan‘s son!
Devon"s acting is horrible. He sounds the same in every sketch
Did you want Devon to become a soprano or do a wacky voice? Geez.
Agreed.. Devon and Kenan are great together.
@@susanmyrano, he isn't
“How’s that car holding up” and “well I’ll let you go”are too good 😂
what a fantastic balance of heartwarming and funny asf
"I love you dad."
"Well I'll let you go!"😂
My nephew does that to me lol
My dad passed away during the pandemic. He had a stroke, then lost his vision, then had another stroke. He was suffering from dementia at the end and the last time I spoke to him on the phone (because of hospital rules I couldn't see him) he was totally gone. He wasn't himself and it broke my heart. He was such a kind man and great father. He took care of 4 kids after he finally won custody, because my mom was a physically abusive NIGHTMARE. This makes me miss him so much. If your dad is alive and if he is a good man and loves you, give him a call.
❤❤
Sounds like a wonderful father. I bet he was so proud of you.❤
demetia is really hard to deal with. My dad was basically gone by the time he died. I'm sorry for your loss.
I loved the plinkety-plinkety piano music playing in the background.
I loved it too!
Amazing. Dads are a gift.
My dad is in the hospital with cancer. Thanks for reminding me to call.
@ aww that’s still nice of you tho
@@danielpittman889 Thanks for sharing that. It helped me decide to watch Formula 1 highlights for the same reason. I considered it a few times but would end up being selfish choosing to watch my fav things. Now I'll do the same with my dad 😀
@@danielpittman889 Ok, these comments are blowing my mind, the similar experiences in such detail. I am probably a lot older than you (in my 60s), just a feeling, but apparently not much has changed about fathers through the decades.
"The Eagles fell in the bathroom the other day and thought this is how the Eagles might die"😂😂😂😂😂😂
Genuinely, a brilliant sketch. Deserved more love.
"Well, the Eagles fell in the shower. And i thought, this is where the Eagles die."
i cant, i actually cant 💀
I just laughed cried so hard to this. My dad and I cannot talk about anything else than work, politics or weather. I have had very rare moments of real connection with him. I am so far from my family and I doubt I will spend as much time with them anymore. I just miss my dad sometimes. but we dont talk about it.
How does everyone have the same dad????????? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
We came from a time where feelings didn't matter much. We all were better off. I'd say to my grandfather, about something, I don't think that's rite and he would say good for you, let's wash my car. Just saying
Men can’t talk.
@@Edward-fd4hq Thank you for expressing your feelings on this.
@@MaineOffGrid. lol your comment sounds like a good reddit post 😄
"Dad, just tell me one real thing!"
"...quarterback"
devon is such an underrated cast member. he's super funny and should be in way more skits
The more they use him, the more I think he is actually versatile
@@trianglesforsquares I've liked Devon from the first. And he has a beautiful smile.
completely agree!
I started watching SNL in the early 90s and can honestly say this is the first skit that ever actually made me emotional while simultaneously LOLing. Who wrote this one? Absolutely brilliant. Much love to all the Dads out there 🫶
I know this a skit but I’ve never seen a skit reflect my life so much
I lost my dad 9 years ago. I’m glad he was able to meet my youngest son. Je t’aime papa. ❤ I miss you…
This reminds me of when I'd talk to my grandfather.
Sorry for your loss bro
sorry for your loss
❤
Brings back memories… miss you pop
Thank you for being funny again SNL❤
The refusal to talk about their emotions is so true 😂
oh my god my dad literally made a "phone works both ways" comment to me less than 3 hours ago
Sounds like a sweet moment
That is why I'm waiting to see how long it takes my dad to call me before I call him...
Wow. They must have based the skit on him
@@MatthewTheWanderer Don't wait very long.
Yup, that's about how it goes talking to dads.
I mean, not this week. Kind of wild how easy some people have it not having lunatic MAGA parents.
@@ZzZ-qd1zo I'm sorry that MAGA got your parents. That's brutal.
@@nw42 Well, I appreciate it. Me, and a few million others. I'm glad people are having these relatively sweet interactions with their dads.
Or at least Boomer dads. I hope I'll be a little more emotionally available to my son (2 years old at the moment) when he's grown and calls me.
@@ZzZ-qd1zo My dad seems a bit depressed after the election. He just wanted to talk about Steven King books. Books are his sports.
My dad just passed away on 10/31. We buried him on Monday. This skit feels like I wrote it. He was a diehard Eagles fan.
This is so real and beautiful
Been watching SNL since it premiered when I was only 5 and this is the first time I ever teared up during a sketch.
keep comedy funny but meaningful and you win. So many Dad's try to communicate love for their family but it's difficult when you have to be the tough provider protector all the time. God bless the Dads that try
1:17 Quarter bac- 🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣 so fking wrong for this one! I've been the son and the dad🤣🤣🤣
this is actually kinda wholesome
Such a great skit especially this weekend as in many countries in Europe it's Father's Day Weekend.
They have Father's Day in November!?
@@MatthewTheWandererJune in the Netherlands
@@7daimeHokage Same in the US. So, why did OP claim that it's Father's Day in Europe this weekend?
@@MatthewTheWanderer It’s Father’s Day in several Northern European countries. (Celebrated on the second Sunday of November.)

The polyps line hit me like a truck
Man I lost my Dad in August and this skit...❤❤❤ I miss you Dad.
sorry for your loss, bro
Kenan is so good! He can make you cry with just a few blinks of his eyes. 😢
This goes to show you that life is so precious. Call your parents and see your parents as much as you can. Tomorrow is never guaranteed
Except one doesn't take calls and the other is malignant.
The perfect Father's Day sketch... 7 months early.
Or 5 months late.
Today is fathers day
Finnish Father's Day is today if that means anything. :D
SNL is always on a break during Father’s Day. 😅
Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Sweden and Norway celebrate Father's day today and I just gave my dad a call today. Sounded exactly like this.
I lost my dad at 14 and my mom at 22, not a day goes by were I don't think about them!
I thought the sketch was pretty funny. It was actually pretty sweet too.
That’s nice. Well… I’ll let you go.
This is how REAL men talk! 😂😂😂😂😂
Omfg I literally couldn't have a conversation with my Dad when I was in college unless we were talking about the Broncos game...
Wish I could call my dad tight now. It's been 2 years. I missed him😢
