Kudos to you for getting those vines out and planting hydrangeas, that was a lot of hard work! I use cardboard under mulch, works much better than newspaper. 👍

Hard work:) What I love about you doing this and sharing it, is that this is what a normal persons yard can be like. I've had 2. So much hard work, but who wants to live with the ugliness of an overgrown unkempt yard left by someone else. Your hard work will pay off and will make you proud. I only wish I knew all that I know now thirty years ago. Oh and also that they had U-tube video's like this. Have a happy day and keep making the world a more beautiful place.

I can see your determination in all that hard work you did. Your garden will look lovely when completed. I picked up two sad looking limelight’s at Lowe’s yesterday. They were priced at $24.98 each. I asked for a discount and got them at $12.49 each. It’s like buy one get one free...Not clearance prices but I didn’t mind. I was told no more shipment of hydrangeas until the spring. I watched your video on how to prune and water them. Now I can’t decide where to place them. I named them Venus and Serena. 😁🌿🎾

Love to see the hedge today and your new brick patio. Love that you are showing this from a modest home standpoint and not a big garden center like so many. Curious if you feel you left enough spacing from the back of the fence to get around (trim) and between each hydrangeas (seems like they could be too close.)? I'm planting 4 in along a fence and would love you feedback now that these are established. I did not hear, but it appears these might be Limelights. I imagine it is just lovely! I love what you’re doing! You must have wonderful soil. Very little clay! I have to add tons of additives to break my up! Question! HOW in the world do you get the hucheras, coral bells, so big,? Mine grow out of the ground and small leaves. Their in shade?? Drives me nuts, I love them! Also have several hydrangeas and azaleas but these hucheras are a total mystery. Thanks!

Jan Johnson they get 5 hours of midday sun. In spring I fertilize with plant tone by espoma. I also use compost as mulch around the base of them.

Manageable chunks is my motto. I work alone so there is no way I can do everything at once. Besides if I did it all at once, there would be no ongoing amusement! If everything was "done", I think I would be sad. What would I do then?

Nice job! Isn't it a lot of work, making a new bed? But will be SO worth it!
I've just made a big new Hydrangea bed too- hoping will not be too sunny in mid summer! ❤️ from Australia

As long as you keep them hydrated they will be fine. They might shock from the heat but will recover

Oh and btw I found out that 20% vinegar mixed with salt and a table spoon of dish soap kills plants just as good as the chemicals. I’m about to order some for my yard and I’ll let u know how it worked.

Ugh, those pesky weeds😡Try Burn Out. It’s an organic week killer. It works best when sprayed on a sunny hot day. You can buy it at Home Depot or Amazon. Hope that helps. Love the hydrangeas. Wow, they’re going to be beautiful.

I wish I had more shade. I'm dealing with a lot of sun and my hydrangeas are not loving it. I'm going to have to figure out how to put them in containers and have them in shady places like on my porch.

Christy Allred they strawberry shake can take the heat. It’s a panicle hydrangea, but the La dreamin is bigleaf. It needs shade.

Hi! I don't know if you'll see this comment, but I bought a little Peegee Hydrangea that was basically a stem with roots from walmart. I planted it in the ground in a bed with afternoon sun. I don't know what to expect from it right now. The tag said 'plant this season, bloom next'. But I think it is dead. I'm keeping it watered, but again it is in afternoon sun. Any tips? Thanks!
