- Malmö Symphony Orchestra’s honorary artist, the world-renowned trumpeter Håkan Hardenberger, performs the first of Théo Charliers 36 Études Transcendantes (1926). Each week we will publish a new etude with Mr Hardenberger.
This would be the only reason I’d want to stay in quarantine for as long as possible!
@Kris Hammond agreed! Such tremendous playing.
Good to know that even the professionals feel winded by the end of these etudes!
Omg my sister plays trumpet and she has been playing this nonstop for MONTHS and at this point I've memorized it and learned it by ear (I play mallets) and I've been trying to find it forever and i finally did
Jeez. You made that damn thing sound like music! :)
Bravo! I've always hoped you would record these for the trumpet world. Thank you so much!
THis Is the greatest offering and blessing on the internet! Thank you HAKAN for inviting us into your home, your sacred place, your heart and spirit~ Dontae
Fantastic!! Thank you for doing these - been playing them many years off and on, and oh so appreciate hearing your amazing performances of these great studies! Bravo!!
I hope to listen all the beautyful etudes not to remain in the virus jail but because you are so great and you play them in a wonderful way with great sound. Thank you Hakan
Charlier's studies stand out as profound music, Giles Senon's studies need a place here :) thanks for sharing!
Bravissimo sempre suono pulito, articolazione eccellente, massima concentrazione e un’idea nuova per suonare CHARLIER Grazie Hakan
For those of you that are looking for a sound to emulate...you've found it! Bravo!!!
I have Herseth... not that Hardenberger isn't worthy of emulation! You could certainly do worse.

Revisiting Charlier again because of Maestro Hardenberger! Thanks for the Inspiration 😊
Professor Hakan, thank you very much for the great example.
Thank you so much for doing this. It was beautiful. Please continue after quarantine because I want to hear them all.
I love and appreciate your response to this situation through your art ! Thanks.
This is fantastic! This is an inspired project and a gift to the trumpet community worldwide. I hope you finish all 36! 🙏
Thank you, Hakan!!! Inspiration, entertainment, education. Dear God.
Thank you so very much... it inspirates... my favorite book ever... please... go on... even...
Absolutely fantastic! Your sound was full - beautiful tone!
The person that gave you a “DISLIKE” should explain why!!!!!!!! Your playing was FANTASTIC!
Someone was jealous. :^)
This made me look into these etudes again. Thanks!
"clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap . . . "
I've been playing this etude since the 60's when I began playing trumpet. When I took up the horn I rediscovered these etudes on Bb horn when looking for something to play. They never get old- unlike me. And as you say, they keep one in playing-shape. It's nice hearing someone else play them for a change! Have you tried playing them on Eb (soprano) trumpet? I still do that once every so often.
That was gas bro. Can’t wait to watch the rest
I can't wait for my favorite--#3!! Beautifully done Sir!!
Bravo! Bravo! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿! Amazing sound!
You add a sparkle of light to my quarantine! Carry on, many thanks.
Excellent! Charlier is my favorite as well. I look forward to your future recordings.
Many thanks Hakan! That was superb! Man what a sound!
I wonder what it's like to play through this book when you essentially have no limit to your technique like Hakan?
Thank you for doing this.... I can't wait to hear all of them
Remarquabe interprétation une des meilleures avec le (très) regretté Pierre Thibaud.
Love this! Thank you (clap, clap, clap!)
Perfection!!
Very Very Beautiful Sound👍🎺
One word: Fantastic!
Maravilhoso.
This is super cool❕
Why somebody gave dislike? He's like the king 😶
So great!
absolument fantastique
Bravo, maestro!
BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO!!!
Thank you for doing this!
Really enjoyed your interpretation. Thank you!
I recently purchased two ancient F contra-alto trumpets. The old boys could sight-read parts in any key and play them in any key. I am going to force myself to play the Charlier. Perhaps by the end of the 36th etude I'll have learned the knack of it. Or not.
Nice practice room!
Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!
Bravo! 👏👏👏🎺
Does anyone know what trumpet model Hakan play here? It’s perfect!
OMG! Amazing!
Bravo master! 👏👏👏👏
che meraviglia!
Genial Hakan
Gorgeous
Thank you sir.

Your tone is awesome
Wow - nice!
Nice performance!!)
Does anybody know if Hakan still records 🤔, by the way we are yet living in pandemic ?

Wow. Makes looking forward to tomorrow a lot easier. (Does anyone know if these etudes have be published in bass clef?)
Trombone/Euphonium version: www.hickeys.com/search/products/sku018501.php
@@patstuckemeyer3298 That is a different set of etudes that was originally written for trombone (you can see a preview on the trumpet transcription of this book that Hickeys mentions or on IMSLP).
As far as I know, if you want to play these on a low brass instrument, you have to buy the trumpet version and learn to read Bb Treble clef
Welche Tonart ist das?
I hope we can all get back to normal life soon..especially the freelance artists!...but somehow i am looking forward to Nr.27...
I heard your recording of Oblivion. I was so moved.
Hope there's a live performance of it somewhere..
And that's how it's done
even the worst things (corona) have their good sites (hakan)
How did this video get 19 dislikes?
Overall, excellent performance and tone. Interesting, I believe the Charlier etudes were written for Bb trumpet. Mr Hardenberger performs on a C trumpet without transposing. I do prefer the timbre of Bb trumpet, so this would be my only request. Anybody know which brands of trumpet and mouthpiece (and size) he prefers to use?
At the end, his expression said, "Charlier, you son of a..."
@@jeffhornick6588 That's my thought. I'm sure we weren't the only music students to say that.
Maybe my Swedish friends on Trumpet / Cornet / Clarinet and Bass-Sax Bent Persson / Paul Strandberg / Lasse Collin and Frans Sjöström can do a serie in JAZZ-STANDARDS?
I thought he was gonna say, “My personal little challenge for this terrible étude” because I hated Charlie etudes in college. I thought they were so boring.
