      I think the thing that made the difference in these games is actually that the Dimir deck was packing more card advantage. Ertai was also a big presence, being a counterspell that can snipe the few threats a control deck plays while dodging Negates/Vetos AND being a threat they have to answer.

    This was absolutely fun to watch and also very educational. I think UW Control is good against the Pioneer metagame because is an hostile place, too much aggro, too much two-for-one, three-for-one, etc. But in the mirror and against midrange/control decks, Dimir is way better. Difficult to see it work against RB Midrange, Gruul or Humans.

I think it's weak in closing out games, but if you catch your opponent with a good exile early, especially in a bo3, you may be able to outpace them easier.

    I have a suggestion for the next Pioneer Deck. It's one I've built for my partner that I call +1Truffle/+1Visitor. It revolves around +1/+1 counters and enchantments, and since the Generous Visitor and the Truffle Snout are cute as hell, they had to be included. The sideboard is a bit janky but that's just because it's all I have, card wise, so you can replace that. It's also super budget, like 12 bucks or so, so if you have a super budget challenge this will work great:
    3 Colossal Majesty
    2 Cultivate
    4 Elvish Mystic
    20 Forest
    4 Generous Visitor
    4 Jugan Defends the Temple // Remnant of the Rising Star
    4 Llanowar Elves
    4 Pridemalkin
    4 Roaring Earth
    3 Scavenging Ooze
    2 Song of Freyalise
    4 Trufflesnout
    2 Wildwood Scourge
    Sideboard
    1 Argothian Sprite
    2 Broken Wings
    2 Hunter's Edge
    2 Rabid Bite
    3 Ranger's Guile

    Wouldn’t one of the lands come in tapped when he cracked both of the fabled passage?

      He cracked one, then the other. It checks to see if there are 4 lands upon ETB 👍

    This aligns with the control match historically. UW is the better deck against creatures (better targeted removal and definitely sweepers), better ways to deal with artifacts and enchantments, but in the mirror, hand destruction + counter-magic is better. UB is THE draw-go archetype, does very well versus combo finishers and other control decks, but is less good at board control. No surprises here. Note, UB has not really been a control option in Legacy for a very long time because they all play Forces, have access to Flusterstorm for combo, but UB cannot manage resolved permanents on the board as efficiently and consistently.
    Great match, nice display of one angle of Pioneer!

    im a bit confused why did he die off of March of wretched? it targets only Creature or planes walker? did he concede due to him creating a 10/10?

      Yes 😅 they unfortunately shortcutted quite a bit. Andrea scooped to Arne making a huge shark off of the March + Shark Typhoon enchantment

    Why didn't Andrea cast the saw it coming instead of the dovin's Veto on the negate on the Counter war, then he would have had it left over for the next turns, since Arne couldn't have cast any more Counter Magic that turn

    Will you be doing PDH anytime soon?

    • @CardmarketMagic
      @CardmarketMagic  Рік тому +1

      Most likely not any tike soon. We don't play commander too often. But we can put it on the list for the options for the next commander match in a few months :)

    One thing I'd like to know is that do they (players) "know" what their opponent is playing or do they do their mulliganing decisions in first game in a vacuum to simulate real matches?

    • @CardmarketMagic
      @CardmarketMagic  Рік тому

      In most of these match-up videos, the players do not know what their opponents are playing. But in this one, they went in specifically knowing they were doing a control mirror 👍
