My dad and his ford racing maniac friend were doing this to their mud bogger truck in the 1980s. Cash was low so he got a set of old worn out Allmost bald gumbo monster Mudder 44s. From a guy who was throw them away in garbage FREE so , They shaved them very cool , they had to use an old soldering gun thing , it took so long heatiing up , not easy like using this one . I wish I had a pic. Their truck was top truck many years in mud racing. Shaved them deep only good for mud. They would pop or damage from rocks and serious off roading , but they worked in mud bog races,
To lay out your final cut on the sidewall just use a cardboard template. Measure out 3"(or whatever dimension you want) poke a hole for a marker, silver sharpie works awesome, and drag that around against the rim. To keep it a uniform distance press the cardboard against the rim to emboss the arc. Then cut the cardboard to that line so it slides right along the rim and gives you a perfectly consistent radius. You make a template in 5 minutes and then you've got one for every single rim diameter you see.
So i just saw this in my recommended and im just curious and my question was,Why do you cut/knock down material of the sidewall ?........Weight reduction ?(im being serious thats my only thought cause i know those thing a friggin heavy so thats why im saying "weight reduction")
I have 35x15.5x15 boggers on a jeep yj that are almost bald and beaten is it safe to do this or something similar to get some more life out of them while using them on rough terrain?
Man back in the day I use to cut custom tires for dirt track racing ATVs. Used Volkswagen tires and cut them with a hack saw. Let the cords show!!!! Wish I had a groover back then. Been a heck of a lot easier and quicker!!!!
What is the reason for shaving the sides? Seems like that would greatly weaken the tire. Do you need them to flex like rear drag car tires? Also, I noticed these are on 5 lug rims, what are these going on? I have 35" boggers on my bronco with 1/2 ton axles and a 400hp motor, I snap front axle shafts left and right. I can't imagine what 44's with that much grip would do.
Bought a set old wheels that have brand new looking boggers but they dated o6....... i know the sidewalls are thick as hell. Should I buy new ones or do you think they are okay to drive on
About 45-50lbs removed per tire on these particular cut, as far as pricing give us a call or message us on our Facebook page we can give you an accurate price because it all depends on the application and the style cut. Thank you
Reducing rotating mass is the main reason, which means that it takes stress off of all moving parts and also frees up wasted horsepower, lets the tire flex where it needs to flex and stay stiff at the lugs to increase traction and you can also change the tread pattern to work better in certain applications
Yes lighten the tire up and reducing rotating mass which frees up wasted horsepower, also let’s the tire flex where it needs to and keeps it stiff enough to get the power to the ground
Joan Rodriguez The depth varies from the side wall to the center it will always be deeper at the shoulder than anywhere else if you want to play it safe set your blade between 1/4” and 3/8”, but I let the blade ride on the cords, it takes a lot of practice
Size Matters Offroad I got you am just treating to groove between the lugs, I work on 18 wheeler tires all day every day so I know how to groove I just don’t know how deep to go on the bkts
Well im in Florida so we have lots of sand but lot of mud to. I do alot of off road riding. And I also go to boggs and Boulders lot of soft mud there. Do you have any good ideas 💡
Ronnie Williz I built my bench out of 2x4 laying sideways and bolted together with threaded rod .... because I know I’ll never clean it and there’s at least 1200 lbs of shit/tools/broken dreams laying on it.

I just got a fresh set of 44s for my 84 CJ7 and I can’t wait to get em broken in
There’s nothing better than a fresh set of 44 boggers

How much weight did you cut off each tire?

Exactly right 🤙
I understand opening the lugs up for traction. But is the rest of the shaving done to reduce reciprocating mass?
Yes.they become more flexible also
I have 35x15.5x15 boggers on a jeep yj that are almost bald and beaten is it safe to do this or something similar to get some more life out of them while using them on rough terrain?
Great job. I wonder how they would look if you left the word super swamper raised. Bet they would look good tho. Great vid
Ronnie Williz yes they do, check out our Facebook for tons of pics

Man that’s crazy! Thanks for sharing
Groovers have been out for like 60 years bub
@@BoutThatAction man I was a poor boy on a budget!!!
Did you cut the 48x31x20 beside you? .
I have a set of them. Want them cut.
Any pics? Cost ?
How many lbs did you take off

Save recipocating weight
Shaves off a lot of weight and it’s a wide 5 lug pattern. A lot of us mud and sand guys use the wide 5 pattern
Bought a set old wheels that have brand new looking boggers but they dated o6....... i know the sidewalls are thick as hell. Should I buy new ones or do you think they are okay to drive on
They should be fine to drive on I see guys using tires from early 90s and they still work fine
you should get knee pads, your knee will thank you!
Not a bad idea thank you
Have you cut standard style tsl tires in a similar fashion?
At that point you're better off buying paddle-tires, they worked just fine back in 1985 mud-drags.
Dell Jr paddles put you in a different class
Lol I know it's just for off road but could you imagine how loud that tire would be on asphalt with the lugs cut youd go crazy lol
WAHHHHH WAAHHHHHH WAAHHHHHH WAAHHHHHHH!!!!!
How much weight would you save by cutting tires? Also how much is it? I thought about getting a set cut...

Size Matters Offroad hey one more thing! Any benefits other then weight loss when it comes to cutting tires?

Where can I buy one of those cutters
When is a good time to call? Want to order blades & upgrades for my setup, no answer -- voice mail full Thanks PeterC.
Is the purpose just to make the tire lighter?
Yes lighten the tire up and reducing rotating mass which frees up wasted horsepower, also let’s the tire flex where it needs to and keeps it stiff enough to get the power to the ground
How do u know how deep to cut
Vance Britt it is done by feel as the blade rises the cords
That’s a lot of work for one tire you do it smoothly though
Yes it sure is, thank you
Best cut job ive seen. I did my own 39.5 boggers on a bar stool so i could rotate the tire while doing the sidewalls. Maybe grab your wifes bar stool.
Why do you cut the sidewall ?
For more weight removed and for more sidewall flex
So have you ever messed up a tire to the point you had to buy a new one?
Knock on wood.... no never ruined one yet
Size Matters Offroad that’s good I’m kinda surprised though it looks like it could go bad really fast!
How light can you make a 39 bogger w/out the wheel with this superlight cut? Thanks.
Do you know how many 32sec. Deep I can go on a BKT?

Where can I get this tool?

I don't have the luxury of a trailer for my wheeler, I have to drive to the trail and back. Could I run my boggers cut like this on the street?
you could but not for lomg
Whats the best way to cut a pro comp mt2
Fishing Daily they style cut always depends on the application, what are you using them for?

Need to clean that desk buddy. We’ve been looking at those same coke & Pepsi cans for months.
Will do man lol
Lol a dirty bench means a used bench. Im a messy person tho aswell so it might just be tho

Need to balance your volumes out. Talking is too quiet and music is too loud.
Dumb question: now that you shaved off the markings on the side wall, are police gonna give you shit about the tire not having DOT markings on it?
Dont think this tire will ever see pavement
@@devonm301 yeah, true. there is always that one time with that one cop thou...
These are used strictly for off-road use only
Why not just buy a set of paddle tires to begin with? Seems fng stupid to me.
Anyone think these can be on a daily? I want to mud and still drive to work yanno
At this point why not buy paddle tires

Hi Bro...
Lets read my comment before..
Thx a lot
Poor tire
The poor super swampers gone to waste you’d be better off just running real tractor tires that’s what they’re made for 💯👌
tractor tires made for tractors.
boggers made to be cut for mud drags.
