Hello Oguis! Thank you so very much! 😀💜 OK so you might find yours is called ''deep base' it's the one that will say on the front 'must be tinted' it should contain no or minimal amounts of titanium white. You also want it in gloss 😀
Hi Niki. Thank you so much for this info, your swipes are soooo fantastic ❤️. You mention that you prefer to use flow medium instead of water if you need to thin the mix. Why is this? Does flow medium contain binder? Your help is very appreciated 🥂
@@NikiDArt 😂. From my research Flow medium doesn’t have binder in it. Art is fun.com says: Flow improver works by breaking the surface tension of the water inside the paint which thins the paint without reducing color strength or compromising the finish. Niki, I love that you did this video on PM consistency. I have watched it a few times trying to get the same look of the paint coming off the stick as you do. Thank you! 😀 💙 Is untinted gloss (water based) house wall paint known as neutral here, it's deep base in the US - you want one that does not contain any Titanium white. I think Glidden is a popular one in the US, but not one that contains any primer
Your resulting art is beautiful so I thought I'd have a look at your mixing technique. You went very fast and I couldn't tell what was being mixed. There was the pigment, then the binder, then the paint (which I assume is what you refer to as your pouring medium), then the gloss varnish... maybe? And was the gloss varnish added to the tube paint as well? Guess I should take the class.
Thank you 😊 💜 Sorry, I put everything up to the camera so you could see and also showed the consistency of them. The video being 17 minutes long, I thought any longer and it would become boring 🙂
Thank you Marie-Paule 😀💖 No it's untinted, so the colour hasn't been added at the store, it's gloss (water based) paint for doors and trims. In some countries it's called deep base you need it without any Titanium in.
Hi Chris, thank you so much 😀❤️ Its an untinted gloss house paint base. In some countries it's deep base as it contains little or no Titanium White. If you head to Chris Glatie's UA-cam channel you will see what ingredients he uses as he's also in Germany. He lists them in his description box. Chris has been creating resin geodes lately, but if you go through his videos you'll find his acrylic ones too 😊

Hi Niki, one question, is the Taubmans easycoat paint you use, transparent when dried? PS love your work, you have shown me some new techniques to try, thankyou.
Hi Niki! Totally rapped by this technique you’re using. Cd you please just clarify what type of medium the tin of gloss ‘paint’ is? It obviously dries clear for use in houses etc for wood but I’ve never seen anything like it! What’s it usually used for and is it found in the diy section or the craft section? Also, is that what you use as the white base on the canvas that you float your pigments on? Thanks! Xx
Thank you Sian 😊 🧡 It's normal house paint (water based) used to paint wood trims. It's untinted, taken off the shelf when you'd usually take it to the counter to be tinted in your chosen shade. So, ideally you need one that that as close to zero Titanium in it otherwise it will lighten your colours. The white (or coloured as I sometimes use), is low sheen wall paint.
Thanks Niki- I love your work and your choice of colours. Is the Atlier binder medium the same as Flotrol? Or can it be used in place of binDer medium?
Thank you Rosemary 😊 💜 No it's not the same, I don't believe floetrol contains binders. Binding medium is basically acrylic paint without the pigment, as it's what's added to acrylic paint. Floetrol is a paint conditioner so can't be used to disperse pigments
Love it! Have no idea what to look for housepaint gloss, here jn the Netherlands. Are there any Dutchies here who know what it's called in dutch? Muurverf, houtverf ??
Thank you Irene 😊💖 You might get the info to help from Chris Glatie's UA-cam channel, he's in Germany but might be of help? It's untinted paint, the sort the store tell you MUST be tinted and contain either no Titanium White or a very minimal amount. Sometimes it's called Neutral sometimes Deep Base
Thank you, I use the house paint straight out of the can (after stirring well). It can vary depending on the batch, but yes should say very similar consistency to my colours, maybe a tad thicker (just slightly) 😀💜
Hi lm just loving your art work, but l have brought all my paints now ,can l use your base paint with floetrol l have been using spring acrylic house paint half with floetrol will it work better or is it the same for brightness,lm just learning,l really love to be able to use all the paints and pigments you use but l really carnt afford it,
Thank you! 😊❤️I tried spring initially and it cracked every time I used it. I occasionally add floetrol to my pillow but you don't want to add much as it will be too thin. You don't need to use pigments, tube paints are great
Hi Niki, I just thought I'd let you know that the J2L you quoted, and that I quoted to my Bunnings supplier, is actually a tap icon (meaning water based) and the 2L is two litres. I was too busy taking notes that I didn't view the tin properly. It is only when I viewed the video again tonight that I saw what you mistook for J2L. 😂😂😂 The guy at Bunnings must have thought I was a crazy old lady who doesn't know what she is talking about, but, now I am equipped because I have a screen shot of the paint base. 😂😂😂❤️🙏🇦🇺🐨🎨
@@NikiDArt I spoke to a fellow yesterday about it, at bunnings, and he said that Taubmans, water based, gloss enamel, neutral, low voc, is sort of the same thing. 4 litres $113. I want to send a screenshot of it but I can't see the option to. Anyway, I am checking it out tomorrow so I'll let you know. Cheers. 😊❤️🙏🇦🇺🐨🎨
@@NikiDArt hi Niki, I went to bunnings last night and bought the Taubmans Water Based Enamel in Neutral Gloss. The fellow said that this is taking the place of the Easy Coat that artists have been using. It's $114 for 4 litres. I hope this is helpful. Happy painting. 😊❤️🙏🇦🇺🐨🎨
I can't thank you enough for sharing this recipe with us 😊 im also in Queensland and so happy to find your channel 😊 😀 have been trying different types of paint but i wasnt really satisfied 😅. Just a question plz , about the medium flow can it be floetrol? Thank you so much
Hi! If you add floetrol to the colours it messes up with the science of how the ingredients play together, Sheleeart, who founded this method discovered that floetrol should only be used in the 'cell activator' that is placed in top of your colours. Cell activator is just paint and Australian Floetrol. My other videos have details of that, both at the beginning and in the description box 😃
Just wondering what you are now using to mix your pigments with now that Taubmans are no longer making this product with the neutral base - only the white base? I just phoned Taubmans directly to check as Bunnings no longer stock it. Apparently they have changed the formula 🙄. Thanks 😊
I'm still using the old formula as found some old tins in Mitre 10, have you tried in there? Once those are used I'll have to use the Taubmans enamel water based in neutral (not tried yet but Taubmans suggested that)
Hi Nikki ,I was going to try this today coz i m in love with your work but i went to buy the Taubmans Water base NEUTRAL and they dont have one no more at bunnings.Did u find another solution to replace this .???
Hi, yes bad Taubmans discontinued it! 😒 Their water based enamel in semi gloss is recommended as a replacement. I haven't tried it yet as still have some of the old left that I found at Mitre 10
Thanks Niki...isnt it great FLYBYS now works with Bunnings? I must have spent many $100's there over 7 years then I moved, now 12 months later Bunnings does Flybys aarrrgghhhhh... BTW a little helpful tip..I use those tiny 6 inch metal cocktail whisks for mixing my paints then just rinse (swish) in water between each colour, seems to do it quicker than a spoon..anyway works for me...beautiful colours...
Thank you Jenny, yes same so mad when I think of all the money spent before at Bunnings!!! I actually LOVE the paint mixing process I find it relaxing haha I do have one of those little whisks but it's never come out of its box 🤣
Thank you Natalie, the TLP's from www.fluid-art.co The Primary Elements from Capriole Shabby Chic, Pearlex can be bought from all art shops, ebay, Amazon and lots of online art shops. The Golden paints again from online art places, I bought these from a local independent art shop along with the acrylic ink. Jo Sonja varnish either online or Spotlight, Eckersleys, art shops. The untinted house paint base from Bunnings 😀
@@NikiDArt haha 😂 all good thank you 🙏 I have the rest, I just couldn’t remember where the golden paints were from but very thorough reply so thanks 😊 On another note just want to say I love watching you for a few reasons, you always put colours in your descriptions and your description is thorough, your from Aussie, I love everything you do your art is amazing 🤩 I hope to be as confident as you some day, I love the combination of listening to you explain and the music you play. Just thought you might like some feedback 💕 so keep being you, love it 💙 Nat
I honestly don't know as never have. Your best bet is to not add too much tube paint so it never gets too thick. I have added a few drops of GAC 100 in the past if I've been too heavy handed squeezing in the tube paint, less is best a couple of blueberry sized blobs.
I've always wondered about adding the varnish and what exactly it does for the paint mixture. It's actually just a water-based polyurethane from what I can see. Just wondering..
Hi Niki! Your flow medium is impossible to get it . And when I look for the same at Liquitex, I only found Pouring medium gloss or flow aid additive. Is it the same?
Hi Tracy, thank you 😊💙 I mix with Aussie floetrol, but never measure (sorry). I mix until my consistency leaves a slight trace when drizzled from around half an inch above. I then hold up the stick and wait to see if the stream of paint bounces or snaps back after most of the paint has dripped off
No I only add exactly what I have shown in this video. I only add floetrol to make my cell activator which is just Australian Floetrol and acrylic paint 🙂
@@NikiDArt thank you for the quick reply. Oh, I must have missed the bit you add Australian floetrol. Which colour you add that to so I can pay extra attention please. I get confused when UA-cam creators pour “white” and never said if it was floetrol or white paint mix. I tried a few times but I am just never successful in creating cells.
I don't mix any cell activator in this video, this one is to show how I mix my colours into my pouring medium. Each one of my videos has details of what I've used for a cell activator in the video description box. I use dozens of different colours, brands include Atelier, Amsterdam, Golden and Pebeo 🙂
Hi Niki thank you for sharing this video, I know I can’t find what you used mixing the color with in America but please can you tell me what is similar by names to each one of them .. Finding the colors is so easy but not the rest of what you used , thank you 🙏
I'm sorry I don't know about American equivalents, I've seen a lot seem to use Behr for their colour bases. Jo Sonja can be bought from www.fluid-art.co as can the pigments
Hi, I am in Canada, and I can't find the product that you used: the coat interior doors anti-bacterial protection. Do you know what I can replace it with? Thank you!
I think it's Behr 8300 in deep base that people use in the US and Canada. I definitely know it's deep base and you just get it off the shelf, don't get it tinted as you'll be adding it to your tube paints and pigments 😀 If you check out Lisa Marvin Art she's in Canada and has mixing videos
Hi Niki. I am trying to find the exact product from bunnings but they all say a colour on the tin. There is white, natural, and additive. It's just so confusing.... can you please help..
Yes they've stopped making it recently. The replacement that works is Taubmans water based enamel neutral semi gloss. I haven't transitioned to it yet as still have some of the old that works.
Living in New zealand can't get my pouring medium right. Got untinted deep base gloss from dulux. Used high pigmented mica powders and still the colours are much lighter.
I've a feeling Taubman's is PPG in NZ, look for a similar name doors and trims in neutral gloss. Are you dispersing your pigments fully first before adding the deep base?
@@NikiDArt I added a teaspoon of pigments and storr it with 2 tablespoons with untinted of housepaint stir it for a while until it was so smooth. I actually thought something wrong with my pigments and used liquitex pouringmedium gloss and that was a great result but I can't used that for bloom I presume do a flipcup or ringpours.
@@DecFirefly1210 she probably doesn't want as much "Bling" as her fb paints. They do not have to be equal amounts of color. If you wanted more mica mixture you could double the recipe. 2 spoons mica and 4 spoons
What would be the us version of the house paint. Took the course it’s difficult when you can’t get what she uses in the US so it makes the class not so good to take if you’re not from There…your work though..is quite beautiful
When you paid for the course you would have received a handbook telling you all the products to use for your country. You also would have received an invite to join the private Sheleeart group where everything you need to use is listed 😀
I found the consistency ok but felt there was a reaction somehow between the pillow and the polyurethane which I do not usually get when paints are mixed using floetrol and Liquidex.
Just one last thing....when I lay down the first colour on the pillow with polyurethane in it.....it usually reacts like the way cell activator does....sinks with a haze forming around surface diameter. Any ideas ?
It’s 2 years later Niki, and QNAG, or at least one of the pigments in it is no longer available, golden is working on a replacement ‘hue’. I’ve seen a few video of yours with various mixes or different colors, different brands. Wanted to suggest, if you even see comments on old videos, check out Arteza Pearl Marmalade, it seems like it would be close to QNAG. I’ve never seen QNAG in person, but in videos, this Arteza color seems like it would be close.

USA here. Your so talented and your work is stunning.
The house gloss.. is that paint or a varnish?
Thank you! 😀 💙
Is untinted gloss (water based) house wall paint known as neutral here, it's deep base in the US - you want one that does not contain any Titanium white. I think Glidden is a popular one in the US, but not one that contains any primer
@@NikiDArt thank you
Thanks for sharing the proportions Niki but what do you use as the base white coat on canvas? It’s a large amount
I use just white wall paint in low sheen. I always list all my paints in the description box of every video 😊
Thank you for this video and info.
Just one question please, the colorless housepaint you use, is that a kind of varnish.
Thank you for an answer .
Chris has been creating resin geodes lately, but if you go through his videos you'll find his acrylic ones too 😊
Thank you for the mixing of PM tutorial. May I ask is the Easy Coat paint water-based or solvent-based?
You always want water based paint 👍😊
Hi Niki, one question, is the Taubmans easycoat paint you use, transparent when dried? PS love your work, you have shown me some new techniques to try, thankyou.
Thank you! 😀❤️ Yes it is, sadly it's been discontinued 😑
Oh, what would you use instead? I'm just getting started with acrylic pouring & have learnt a lot, thanks Niki for the leason. 🤗
At the moment it's unsure, Shelee (Sheleearr) is testing out different brands to see which work best
Would gac 500 work instead
Thanks so much Niki for helping me. I don’t see the tip jar. How do I find that? Marty
Thank you so much Marty! 😀 💙 It's in the description box of my videos, the PayPal.me link
Do you water these down before using? They seem a little thick.
No, they're mixed to the perfect consistency for how I like them. I don't add any water
Hello, this is superb. Can I know the whole list of your material, paints etc ... And the approximate quantities. Thank you
Thank you 😀💙 Sorry I don't measure actual ratios, I do by eye as I show in this mixing video. I show all the paints and pigments in the video 🙂
Hi Niki, as always your videos are spot on, do you have one on the consistency of your bases or is it similar to tubes and pigments 🤗
Thank you, I use the house paint straight out of the can (after stirring well). It can vary depending on the batch, but yes should say very similar consistency to my colours, maybe a tad thicker (just slightly) 😀💜
@@NikiDArt thank you
Hi lm just loving your art work, but l have brought all my paints now ,can l use your base paint with floetrol l have been using spring acrylic house paint half with floetrol will it work better or is it the same for brightness,lm just learning,l really love to be able to use all the paints and pigments you use but l really carnt afford it,
Oh well you learn something new every day 🤣🤣 Unfortunately Taubmans have discontinued this paint base now! The search is on for a new one 😭
Niki, when you swipe with the CA on the spatula, do you let the spatula glide lightly over the paints or do you use pressure?
Yes literally sweep over the colours gently, hardly any pressure 😀
@@NikiDArt thank you very much 🙂
Just wondering what you are now using to mix your pigments with now that Taubmans are no longer making this product with the neutral base - only the white base? I just phoned Taubmans directly to check as Bunnings no longer stock it. Apparently they have changed the formula 🙄. Thanks 😊
I'm still using the old formula as found some old tins in Mitre 10, have you tried in there? Once those are used I'll have to use the Taubmans enamel water based in neutral (not tried yet but Taubmans suggested that)
@@NikiDArt thanks 😊. Yes, I've tried locally but I'm unable to get 🙄.
Where do you buy the Tubman’s easy coat I can’t find it anywhere 🤔
I buy it from Bunnings 😀
I live in Hawaii we don’t have to many craft stores I love your art work they don’t even sale Behr 8300 here 🙃
Qnag looks like baby poop, but it’s amazing!🤩I just bought 2 8oz fluid bottles and a tub of heavy body, so now that it’s discontinued, I’m set,😅
It does but ooh the glow on white is amazing 😀
@@NikiDArt I love it especially with blues and magenta/violets. It’s amazing!💖
@@NikiDArt Its in a box thats a bit fancier than mine from a catering store at about $1.50 ha ha take it out they are great...
Hi Niki, excellent tutorial thank you 🙏 just wondering where you got your golden paints from in Aussie?
Thank you Natalie, the TLP's from www.fluid-art.co
The Primary Elements from Capriole Shabby Chic, Pearlex can be bought from all art shops, ebay, Amazon and lots of online art shops. The Golden paints again from online art places, I bought these from a local independent art shop along with the acrylic ink. Jo Sonja varnish either online or Spotlight, Eckersleys, art shops. The untinted house paint base from Bunnings 😀
Oops sorry for the essay, I thought you'd asked about everything 😂😂😂😂 oh well now you know 🤣
@@NikiDArt haha 😂 all good thank you 🙏 I have the rest, I just couldn’t remember where the golden paints were from but very thorough reply so thanks 😊 On another note just want to say I love watching you for a few reasons, you always put colours in your descriptions and your description is thorough, your from Aussie, I love everything you do your art is amazing 🤩 I hope to be as confident as you some day, I love the combination of listening to you explain and the music you play. Just thought you might like some feedback 💕 so keep being you, love it 💙 Nat
Nat, thank you so much! 😀💖 I'm not confident though, I'm a nervous wreck hate public speaking as I'm so shy 🤣
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you! 😀 💙
Do you know if mica powder that's used in bath bombs is the same as pigments and can be used in this technique?
I honestly don't know, but I wouldn't imagine they'd have enough colour otherwise they'd stain your skin
Curious as to what I might use to thicken paint I have accidently made too thin.
You can add more of the untinted base to thicken 😊
Can you use GAC 800 in your mixes to thin it when needed?
I honestly don't know as never have. Your best bet is to not add too much tube paint so it never gets too thick. I have added a few drops of GAC 100 in the past if I've been too heavy handed squeezing in the tube paint, less is best a couple of blueberry sized blobs.
Thank you to know the material that you use 🙋♀️🇫🇷
Thank you Marie 😊❤️
I've always wondered about adding the varnish and what exactly it does for the paint mixture. It's actually just a water-based polyurethane from what I can see. Just wondering..
I really don't know the science behind it, Sheleeart devised the recipe when she created her bloom technique 😀
🤔What is create button for? Thanks for videos! What does bindex do?
I'm sorry I don't understand your first question. Bindex is an acrylic binder, binds the pigments together
Hi Niki! Your flow medium is impossible to get it . And when I look for the same at Liquitex, I only found Pouring medium gloss or flow aid additive. Is it the same?
Hi Marisa, Liquitex Flow Aid is the same 😊
@@NikiDArt thanks a lot Niki!😘
Hi niki love your art ❤️ please could you let me know how you mix your cell activator please?
Thank you 😊
Hi Tracy, thank you 😊💙 I mix with Aussie floetrol, but never measure (sorry). I mix until my consistency leaves a slight trace when drizzled from around half an inch above. I then hold up the stick and wait to see if the stream of paint bounces or snaps back after most of the paint has dripped off
@@NikiDArt thank you so much I shall keep practising … 👍🏻👍🏻😊😊
Do you add silicones oil to create cells? What do you use instead please? No floetrol ?
Niki, where do you live in Aus? Just a State will do. Thank you and I mix mine almost the same. ❤️

Yummy colors. 😋
Great teacher, thanks for sharing!
Could you introduce to you please?
Thank you Laura! 😊 💖 I've got to build up my confidence first
I tried scanning the comments.. I’m unfamiliar with adding varnish- does this do anything besides add flow? Is it for binding purposes?
All the details are in the video description box, click on the video title to access. It's a recipe that Sheleeart devised.
Hi, I am in Canada, and I can't find the product that you used: the coat interior doors anti-bacterial protection. Do you know what I can replace it with? Thank you!
Watch Kanella Ciraco, she's from Canada. Check the blooms paint she uses.
I think it's Behr 8300 in deep base that people use in the US and Canada. I definitely know it's deep base and you just get it off the shelf, don't get it tinted as you'll be adding it to your tube paints and pigments 😀
If you check out Lisa Marvin Art she's in Canada and has mixing videos
I actually thought something wrong with my pigments and used liquitex pouringmedium gloss and that was a great result but I can't used that for bloom I presume do a flipcup or ringpours.
what did you add that was a couple of spoons in?
Hi, sorry I'm not quite understanding your question? Do you mean what did I add it into? It's just a little plastic food container, around 170ml
@@NikiDArt I am wondering what is the substance you are adding to it. I kept watching and I think it is untinted housepaint?
Yes it's untinted house paint, I show the tin at the start 🙂
How do you stretch your mica mixes to match the amount you have of the FB mix? It seems like the micas are only about half if the fb amount
Sorry not sure what you mean? Facebook amount?
@@NikiDArt fb = full body paint, there seems to be much more than the others.
@@DecFirefly1210 she probably doesn't want as much "Bling" as her fb paints. They do not have to be equal amounts of color. If you wanted more mica mixture you could double the recipe. 2 spoons mica and 4 spoons
Hi, i am confused,,,, about mixing chemical ...please send me names of all ingredients and quantity...thanks
If you're not in Australia you won't be able to get the sane paint unfortunately. It's untinted house paint (water based)
Nicki, is that house paint you are using to mix with?
Yes, untinted house paint 😊
What would be the us version of the house paint. Took the course it’s difficult when you can’t get what she uses in the US so it makes the class not so good to take if you’re not from There…your work though..is quite beautiful
When you paid for the course you would have received a handbook telling you all the products to use for your country. You also would have received an invite to join the private Sheleeart group where everything you need to use is listed 😀
What do you think causes paint with polyurethane and untinted base in it to sink under the pillow paint to become discoloured and hazy
That kind of sounds as if it's too thin if it's sinking, how is your consistency?
I found the consistency ok but felt there was a reaction somehow between the pillow and the polyurethane which I do not usually get when paints are mixed using floetrol and Liquidex.
Just one last thing....when I lay down the first colour on the pillow with polyurethane in it.....it usually reacts like the way cell activator does....sinks with a haze forming around surface diameter. Any ideas ?
Do you use this mixture for blooms and other ways of pouring?
This is my mixture for my bloom swipes 🙂
It’s 2 years later Niki, and QNAG, or at least one of the pigments in it is no longer available, golden is working on a replacement ‘hue’. I’ve seen a few video of yours with various mixes or different colors, different brands. Wanted to suggest, if you even see comments on old videos, check out Arteza Pearl Marmalade, it seems like it would be close to QNAG. I’ve never seen QNAG in person, but in videos, this Arteza color seems like it would be close.
Thank you! Michelle from Grateful Creations has a video with a mix that's identical 😀🧡
How thick is your pillow?
It can vary from batch to batch, usually around a 5 second trace
