Hey! Thanks for making this video. I wanted to clarify some information you got wrong. The character model shaders are by EricHu (not affiliated with Moguri) and have been incorporated into Memoria. It wouldn't be fair to attribute his hard work to Moguri. There are a lot more people working on Memoria than Moguri, so really, shout out to all the contributors for all the enhancements provided to the game. Great video otherwise. I like the before/after showcase and I appreciate you showing all the different options Memoria offers (more are still "hidden" in the memoria.ini). 2024 is a great year for FF9 modding. With Echo-S 9 full release possibly before the end of the year (hopefully) it'll be the ultimate way to play FF9. Who needs a remake lol.
Thanks for the shout out SamsamTS ! Yeah thanks to every contributors of Memoria engine (Include moguri's maker snouz, whom also is one of the major contributor of memoria). We now have a better gaming experience for FF9! I hope all of you can re-enjoy the game in your favorite way. Eric.
Hello sir, have you tried playing this masterpiece with your beautiful work installed, on a CRT RGB active monitor, 4:3 native? Because if you haven't you haven't seen what truly beautiful a job you've done. Modern screens are a crime against this kind of image or sprites, anime too. CRT monitors are a forgotten gem.
I am on my second, trying to make perfect playthrough and I cannot play with the old graphics. I hope the Echo s9 project gets completed too so we can have voice for the whole duration of the game.
This game only gets better, the fans are one of the best things about this franchise, doing what the producer itself doesn't do, 9 fans are really passionate
I would highly suggest the Alternate Fantasy or Beatrix mods. It was my favourite mod of all time for FF9, Beatrix slots in so perfectly to the party and I love the way they integrated into the storyline using the cut content related to her. I recall reading before years ago she was due to be a party member full time but the devs ran out of time and didn't get her trance mode done in time.
I think Ive played through FF9 about half a dozen times now, most of them low level/perfect stats kinda games. So Ive been around the block. But this update to Moguri has me itching to play again. It looks amazing!! My favorite game in the series by far
Wow! This is amazing! I love IX and I have been wanting to do another playthrough since its been over a decade since I played last. This looks like a perfect way to play it today!
Then I'm gonna recommend you Beatrix mod and post my comment on this video to explain why. ------ Ever since I first played FFIX in 2001 it has been my favorite game, and in the entire game I had only one criticism, or perhaps desire is a better word. I thought Beatrix should have been a permanent party member. She was my favorite character, I thought she was so F-ing cool, I really dreamed about this for years. But I always had this sad knowledge that that was something I'd never get....and then suddenly I did, suddenly FFIX was on steam and Tirlititi made a mod that not only made Beatrix a permanent party member, but even gave her trance, abilities, and even added her into cutscenes. This was literally all I ever wanted from FFIX, literally a childhood dream come true, and like I suspected it just feels right, like this was like it was always meant to be. So because of that I have to name that my favorite mod of FFIX, and anything, ever. It's my definitive way to play the game, and although it works together with Moguri, if I had to choose to play with only one, I'd play with Beatrix.
this modding community is extremely friendly and always looking for feedback. One of the dev's will soon be making a video for making NPCs playable characters similar to the playable character pack. He will create a tutorial for it hopefully getting all points. My goal is to replicate it and make all NPCs/Enemies playable. This is the hope :)
just wanted to chime in and give the moguri mod love - absolutely feels like an official remaster w/ the visual/audio and quality of life changes that speed up the slower pace of the original game. highly, HIGHLY recommend this to anyone curious to play FF9 w/o all the archaic game systems that haven't aged well over time. this game is a masterpiece and every jrpg fan needs to play it.
oh man had no idea FF9 modding was this advanced, I thought FF7 was the only one with a big modding scene. DEFINITELY gonna be using these when Tsunamods Echo-S 9 mod comes out
You really have to love the amount of time, effort, and love that went into this project A salute to the people holding the torch for FFIX for a solid 24 years after it's release o7
It doesn't even need a Remake with this mod, it looks soooo damn good! That being said I won't turn down a Remake lol. OMG, Triple Triad!! 100% swapping to that next time I play

The Moguri mod went from being a Ok Mod to a Must Have in their most recent version released recently. BTW, Moguiri combined with CRTFakeLottes Provided with Reshade makes it look even better.
I contributed a tiny bit to Moguri Mod 😅 By adding a slight bloom effect to lights. Not sure if it’s still there or if the author removed it. It was done via reshade.
I'd kind of prefer an FF8 remake, just because I thought the original was a good game that just needed a little more time in the oven to be truly great, and FF9 is already a great game, where my only complaint being not being able to fight all 4 fiends the first time.
Great video. I downloaded the mod a couple years ago but I never finished playing it because work got too busy. How can I update to the new version of Moguri?
First of all - it's GREAT and heartwarming to see FF mod scene so lively and awesome. But... personally I'm still not convinced about Moguri. These backgrounds still have thah AI-upscaling 'haze' or 'bloom' or 'pastel-watercolor' or whatever you want to call it 'vibe' that makes it distinctly recognizable. I played FFIX on PSX emulator a tear ago and I was very happy with what I had. For me Moguri-mod style of visuals is just jarring. But given what SE did with Chrono Cross and that terrible AI upscale (Moguri is on much much higher level, but it's a higher level of the same 'AI upscalling tower' nonetheless) I'm really NOT looking forward to that infamous remake. And all the other mentioned mods - just lovely!
The only thing i dont like in this update mod is that the camera is stucked on the background or in front its doesnt feel like ps1 ffix also the camera doent zoom on characters when they casting a spell like the previous moguri mod and i dont know if it is possible to change that.but it is indeed looks amazing
I loved playing FF9 with the Moguri mode a few years ago, especially for the high res background, overall improved 3D assets and the possibility to skip the battles’ intro. As for this new version though, I’m not a fan at all of the new cartoony character models. I can understand the appeal for some, but I prefer when mods improve on the original version rather than replace it with new visuals.
You can also press F9 to get through dialogues when in fast mode. And I believe you do not need to decompress it in the game's directory. You can also check the Angelwing mod for FF8.
@@TheNightSkyPrince Make sure to check Echo S9 demo mod. It's bringing new life to the game but you have to disable it after you reach Southgate. You can also use the Moguri music mod, they have updated the tracks too, although I never touch Nobuo's creations, they are just too perfect.
I'm stuck. In the first fight of the play, every time I attack or get attacked, a message appears (DLL Error, CHECK memoria.log), and I can't get past it. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thank you very much!.
Thank you for making these handy FF mod videos NSP!✨️ Depending on how things go, I might end up checking it out, once I finish up school and is on X-mas break this year!❤ Continue making such great content!🙌🏽💕😁
YOOO This looks AMAZING dude! I been wanting to get the platinum on Playstation as its like the only FF I dont have platinum, but I might just replay it on PC instead lol.
My King Thank You for another modding video especially for one of my favorite Final Fantasy Games. I hope FFVIII has had modding upgrades since your last video.
Almost all of the feature set is thanks to Memoria; which has been getting active updates all this time. Moguri requires Memoria to run and Moguri 8.3 had a 3 year old Memoria version bundled with it. Now with 9.0 to stop the misconception, they've included it through the Memoria Mod Manager so that people will properly credit Memoria for the feature set plus actually keep Memoria updated because so many people never bothered updating Memoria before just keeping the old one bundled with Moguri cause they didn't even know Memoria existed.
Playing this game (or any other retro game really) on an modern 16:9 screen is a crime. Get yourselves a retro gpu with a scart cable (RGB active, they're cheap, 150€ tops), and buy a decent second hand CRT TV or a Sony monitor and experience this game the way it deserves. Night and day guys, it's that big a deal, what it does to picture quality. Even though Moguri 9.0 has done a hell of a job with the 2D backgrounds, modern displays butcher the image, turning it into an oil painting, horrendous. Then you run it on the CRT TV and magic happens, it's like you're playing a completely different game, from 360p detail to 4k detail, from crappy oil painting to seemingly glorious 3D looking 2D backgrounds. If anyone does do this, please come back to this comment and tell me about it.
Moguri Mod has made me fall in love with the original game. FF9 has my favorite story of any of the (single player) FFs but the gameplay has some issues- automatic Trance, the slow-as-molasses combat, and the frustrating RNG in stealing- which the mod has smoothed over considerably. Though now I wonder. Can I really say FF9 is one of my favorites if I can barely stand to play it unmodded?
It's an incredible mod. The previous moguri was already amazing but this new update is just peak. I wish there was something like this for the FF8 remaster. The available mods for FF8 are sadly all over the place, it's not a complete package like moguri. Also, the memoria engine is just an incredible piece of work. You can tweak battle scripts easily. At least in terms of doing a perfect speedrun it's a nice little thing to be able to control so many details in case you don't want to be resetting all day.
Once again proving my stance on how the fans occasionally do better for free than a company does for a profit. Square Enix ought to be ashamed of themselves.
Painful that absolutely nothing was done to these beautiful backgrounds in the Switch/PS4 versions. Somehow it looks worse than PS1, especially given that they only upgraded the character models.
A different way to play FF9 not the definitive way to play it.. You maybe hyped by the mod.... I don't like it. I'd rather play it on my PS1 than playing any remake or remastered...or modded...
