Tay Zonday is an icon Additionally: The memory that is cup stacking was one I completely forgot about, but oh boy was I obsessed with cup stacking. I tried to learn how to be good at stacking cups, but I literally have no coordination.
Matt Sloan of the Chad Vader Star Wars series has actually voiced Darth Vader in many of the Lego Star Wars shows/games… so Disney couldn’t have been too mad haha. What a wild ride back to 2008 this was though.
i'v never seen this live show, but I can feel the pure iconic energy it holds just from hearing you describe it and showing clips. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
6:37 last year, because of Covid we weren’t allowed to sing in choir and as an alternative, the choir director had us learn to play ukulele and then at the end of the year we did a concert with the ukuleles. Choir was made up of a decent chunk of the 7th and 8th graders so if that UA-cam live group was too much, I guess ours was insanity
I feel like the Miley Cyrus bit was probably a large part of why UA-cam would prefer this were scrubbed from the internet. And the various copyright infringing stuff immediately after.
Ohhh I’ve been WAITING FOR THIS ONE!!! I skipped out on a party in 2008 to watch this event aired live on UA-cam. I still have Bo’s song memorized. There was a new Charlie the Unicorn animation. I truly thought it was the best day ever. This is the trip down memory lane I NEEDED

7:35 Can we talk about how often gals are in this pose on stage while doing some sort of hosting for some sort of award show? Do we really need them to be in a stiff sexy pose while presenting an upbeat monologue instead of being able to jump around the stage and show energy??? I swear it happens too often.
I feel like the Try Guys Legends of the Internet tour might have been a more successful version of this where they had four different themes to cover the different genres of internet content. They could explore all the different things that the internet offers but they still had it organized and cohesive.

Hey Scott, that Guitar Hero player was FreddieW, in case you didn’t know. He got huge originally for being a pro at GH, doing tournaments and such. Just a little fun fact.
That guy playing guitar hero was first made popular for being insanely good at the game, but later went on to become a UA-cam legend. That is Freddie W that made extremely popular skits under that name before making Rocket Jump channel known for short videos like Medal of Honor Cat and his kickstart funded success series Video Game High School. He has moved on to other artistic endeavors, but his old group all have various successful projects going on still.
I have actually talked to Michael Buckley and he is very sweet and considerate, he did a lot of work on himself after ending his UA-cam show. While yes he was a human disaster in 2008 (who wasn’t tbh) he is generally a good person as far as I know
I think i remember him saying that one reason he stopped doing what the buck is because he did a lot of learning and he realized that the format no longer something that would work with all of the societal changes happening at the time. Im glad that he ended the show when he did and didnt try to continue forcing it.
Yes! I watched What the Buck back in the day, and I still follow him on Instagram now and he’s a completely different person now. I look forward to his Instagram videos in the mornings now.
There is one thing missing in that show to encapsulate that time on YT, Notepad tutorial for anything techwise, with either Bring me to life, Numb, or Paralyzer playing in background
Back in 2008, people would just think of those videos as low-effort crap that nobody would want to feature in a high-quality production. It took 20 years for us to get the nostalgia value from them.
@@vurpo7080 Not true at all. Holy shit, that's so accurate. And Miley is his Ethan.
At the time his channel was modeled off of Perez Hilton and TMZ-esque celebrity gossip blogs. Eventually as UA-cam got bigger and youtubers more famous, these style of channels evolved into the drama channels like Keemstar where they talk about more UA-cam centric gossip and drama.

The ukulele bit really aged well, watching this post colleen
that "thank god he's at least 18" made me feel so uncomfortable omg
My favorite recurring bit is Scott referring to will.i.am's Bigheads history
6:45 "Ukes" feels like a derogatory term against ukulele players and i cant wait to use it
Matpat and his wife did a really good job with their live show a few months ago raising 3 times their goal amount for charity
nothing but love for MatPat and what he does for the community. i honestly still watch all the theory videos even though i'm 25 lol. his humour isn't for me anymore, but his dedication to the platform and other creators is really admirable

I think now we know why a whole group of ukuleles was so unsettling to Scott… he foresaw the fall of Colleen…

Additionally: The memory that is cup stacking was one I completely forgot about, but oh boy was I obsessed with cup stacking. I tried to learn how to be good at stacking cups, but I literally have no coordination.
Matt Sloan of the Chad Vader Star Wars series has actually voiced Darth Vader in many of the Lego Star Wars shows/games… so Disney couldn’t have been too mad haha. What a wild ride back to 2008 this was though.
as someone who had never heard of youtube live since i was way too young to be on yt in 2008, this was an absolute treat
I’m glad to hear that…. Kiryu-chaaaaan

I really like the feel of this channel. "OH WAIT I JUST REMEMBERED A THING AND I NEED TO TELL PEOPLE!" And I love it
i'v never seen this live show, but I can feel the pure iconic energy it holds just from hearing you describe it and showing clips.
When scott references 2008 you know its going to be a good video.
T'was a golden year.
A guy furiously playing Guitar Hero during UA-cam live is probably the most 2008 thing ever
Freddie W got his start doing goofy guitar hero videos before action videos
I really appreciate that you put chapters in your video's timeline!
same here!
I feel like the Miley Cyrus bit was probably a large part of why UA-cam would prefer this were scrubbed from the internet. And the various copyright infringing stuff immediately after.
I haven't thought about those flip cameras since 2008 and I have just unlocked so many memories. What a bizarre era.
(mind you, I was in middle school & the party was really a dinner party for my parents friends and me being an awkward preteen would’ve much rather stayed home to watch UA-cam Live. also just now remembering I also had a Flip camera and the quality was absolutely shit lol)

FLIP cameras being used for school English projects is so specific and so true 🤣🤣 brought back all the memories
9:30 the way Katy Perry is holding that microphone looks engineered to be the least comfortable way to hold something meant to be held.
Bro, you are so underrated. Like you should be at least to Danny and Drew's number of subs. You make quality content that's always so good
It's so weird, he ticks every box. His videos are fun to watch and nicely edited, he's naturally funny and charming and seems genuinely nice, he's creative and has a real talent for this. I know his numbers are growing and he's bigger than 90% of channels but I think it's time our boy took off. Stratospheric babyyyy
@@gregsmith1641 another commenter pointed out that it may be because of his originality and more niche topic choices!
At certain points throughout the video, I kept thinking how he sounded just like Kurtis, and even laughed the same as him-
I think it's because Danny and Drew are more on the funny side. They do jokes and mini sketches and even some of the not jokes are funny, and while Scott is entertaining as hell, it isn't a content you usually laugh at yknow
I remember watching the his live for the sole reason of hearing bo's new song because I was 13 and had a huge crush on him. and I was also just proud of myself for knowing nearly every single act in the show. Crazy.
The ukulele think is foreshadowing
Thank you, Scott. This almost seeped out of the deepest corners of my long-term memory and then you jammed it right back in.
Hey Illini!
Quite the weird event. I missed this completely, but it's like a wild time capsule. I'm writing a fiction book in that time frame of 2000s, and it can be tricky to research things sometimes. Still, thank you man. MVP.

God.. I remember how all my female friends in middle school were down bad for Fred which i could never understand. I'm sensitive to noise and light so it felt like he was piercing my ear drums and killing my braincells..
That was so cool back in 2008. The only livestreaming was on blogtv and ustream at 144p or maybe 240p. Bo Burnham singlehandedly won the entire stream over everyone else combined. It wasn't even close. I was there. I remember. Good times.

Hey Scott, that Guitar Hero player was FreddieW, in case you didn’t know. He got huge originally for being a pro at GH, doing tournaments and such. Just a little fun fact.
I forgot about FreddieW. I used to be a big fan.

@@inyruiyou are thinking of acai I think he’s the biggest content creator on the games
I was literally thinking about Nigahiga earlier today. I watched him all the time back in the day, as well as Rhett and Link, and Mitchell Davis.
Can I just say that cup stacking is definitely the best sport they could have picked. There's no way I could have done that.

I forgot the chokehold StackCup had on us back then. I competed in my school's tournement and actually did pretty well !
90% of videos were that or montages with the song bodies playing
Let the bodies hit the floor and Here comes the boom.
Back in 2008, people would just think of those videos as low-effort crap that nobody would want to feature in a high-quality production. It took 20 years for us to get the nostalgia value from them.
@@vurpo7080 Not true at all. Production value was just different back in the day and part of the charm of UA-cam was it was a launching pad to success where you could express yourself however you wanted. Lots of us were just using windows movie maker or just recording off webcams. Some knew about editing and some of us didn't. It was vlogging, showing off skills and tricks, making montages, making MVs and lip syncing. They were like online home videos for the public. It was cool and new so just having videos on a platform like UA-cam or Myspace was exciting to people.
As soon as you asked what sport they would be featuring I immediately thought "cup stacking" 🤣 that shit was EVERYWHERE in 2008
