when buzzfeed steals tumblr posts to embed in their listicles, the original poster can edit their post and the edited version will be embedded in its place. the obvious result is, when you find out buzzfeed steals your post, you can wreck their whole article with "BUZZFEED PAY ME ROYALTIES" repeated over and over again. its a tradition over there.

@@shakiras5679 That's the whole basis of Buzzfeed. My ex in college got a job writing for them by literally just emailing them and asking how to apply... And they gave her a job writing "listicles" or whatever the heck the called them. As I said in one of my other comments...a lot of the time I'd just get drunk and sit with her and help her write the most ridiculous BS lists of useless information and her articles always got published. I wasn't getting paid in money for 'writing' for Buzzfeed like she was...but I was getting paid in genuine entertainment when I'd see that the list of "17 places your cat NEEDS to see during it's 9 lives" or "10 Celebrities' REAL names?!?!" lists would actually get approved even though I co-wrote them while drunk in the middle of the night. I think that's how Buzzfeed operates. The article author's drunk boyfriend wants to entertain your one brain cell so that his girlfriend can afford to pay for her own gas and make us a lovely dinner. :)

Neat! An ex girlfriend of mine from college used to write for buzzfeed! At the time I would literally sit with her while I drank whiskey in copious amounts and and help her write articles. I won't mention her name, but know that some buzzfeed articles are partially written by some 21 year old college girl's drunk boyfriend at 4AM. :) Which kind of explains a whole lot about how bad (I mean AWESOME!!!!) some of their material is. So if you see something like "17 exotic places that your cat NEEDS to see during their 9 lives!!!" it was most likely actually largely written by the credited author's drunken boyfriend in the middle of the night. Dang....I had so much fun making up the dumbest stuff for those. and literally none of her articles ever got turned down. Fun story! At the start of the pandemic last year, my friends and I had a bunch of Skype calls together where we would often play shitty BuzzFeed quizzes.
One day, one of my friends and I decided to make one of our own parody quiz. So I made an account, and suggested an idea: "Create your dream bagel, and we'll find your SpongeBob soulmate." We thought it was hilarious. I came up with a series of bagel-construction-related questions, and all the results were overtly sexual descriptions of SpongeBob characters (ie, the wonderful things Squidward could do with his nose) accompanied by photos of completely random stock photo models.
The next day, I decide to check in on it, and I notice a bunch of activity... Tons of comments... Plus a notification from BuzzFeed saying that I... I was featured on the front page?
Yes, that's right ladies and gentleman. It was on the front page. You had to scroll for a bit, but it was there. And BuzzFeed approved it. Sure, it was heavily edited, but it was still basically the same idea.

Sometimes the buzzfeed quizzes are made by community members, so they actually can be written by 14 year olds. That probably explains the phrasing. Also that's their target audience. 😬

BuzzFeed actually has an award-winning journalism branch. They even won the Pulitzer Prize! The way BuzzFeed can keep the lights on their investigative journalism branch (which is a huge problem these days) is through viral surveys like these to generate revenue. Investigative journalism is slowly dying because not enough money is being invested, so comedies like BuzzFeed and teen vogue will keep the successful and money making parts of the company to keep the lights on lol

I once got in an argument with a boomer Journalism professor who didn't understand why I didn't respect their journo branch. My argument was that they could solve the JFK assassination, find D. B. Cooper, and publish evidence of Aliens, but I'm not going to take any of that seriously when it's under the same media umbrella as the website that I can find out which dog breed I am based off what spicy foods I like. I get that they've done really good work, but it's ridiculous that they publish Pulitzer prize winning investigations and The Try Guys under the same brand.

I massively appreciate a sponsor read that's not 100% smooth transition delivered in a serious way but instead let's the audience feel that you know we know the ad read, and you know we're not really hype about it, but we like to see our creators succeed so we're happy u got the sponsorship. Nothing makes me feel more taken advantage of than when the ad fits too perfectly and smoothly into the video because then it always feels like the whole video was created just to be the ad, not because the creator wanted to make the video. It feels like i got got somehow to enjoy a video but then at the end get served an ad that makes me feel like the video was just an excuse to get me on board with watching the sponsored bit.
