Platforms will control the cut they take and they have the users proximity not the NTF creators. So if FB wants to take a larger piece of they pie they will. I'm a creator and I can tell you exactly how - you just set your percentage of the re-sale in the initial contract; if your artwork re-sales many times, you get an income each time; forget about FB, that's not decentralized.

      @stereodark 2 роки тому

      @@6cryn yeah but that's the point, if you pitch the idea of using these items in Metaverse, the platform provider must agree to that and will charge fees. If FB, Epic and other companies do NOT have any incentive, they will NOT integrate NFT tech and you will NOT benefit from any of the above. You could argue that what's in for them is the higher appeal of their platform over competing ones, but I don't buy that, masses will not shift to another provider due to NFT availability, technology won't move them, they need to get something better and I don't believe there is enough in NFT for the consumers..

    I think what we're more likely to get is augmented reality however, for NFT's to succeed there first needs to be adoption and interoperability. There's no point in owning a $500k monkey picture NFT if you can't even display it. The whole screenshotting thing isn't even the real issue, that can be resolved, the real issue is that there's no single 'world' to display it. In the real world you have a 1 of 1 painting, we all live and breathe the same air, so this issue doesn't exist however, we could see 500 different 'worlds' with no ability to take anything from one to another, then your NFT is essentially limited to that single 'world'. Easiest way to imagine this problem is video games, you can't take a sword from Skyrim and use it in Zelda, even with games that are built and run on the same engine, by the same studio/dev team, you can't do it in most cases.

    I think the technology of an NFT is interesting, but it won't succeed with JPEGs made by teenagers selling for ludicrous amounts. The idea of a decentralized system recognizing the owner of an item could have it's use cases elsewhere, like physical collectibles with a verifiable QR code to an NFT. Because it's trustless, it eliminates the need to trust a company verifying if a baseball card is a genuine for example.

    I guess platforming people who are trying to create something new is what TED does, but I'm a little worried about this one. The TED talk framework here is legitimizing what is essentially a scheme to exploit artists. "Get involved, mint your art (((for a fee))) - it'll be great, trust me, I'm in a TED talk!" No one is interested in buying NFTs for the art, that's not the point. They will buy if they think they can sell it again for profit. All artists joining the movement does is make it look more appealing and legitimate when a lot of people and nice art is nominally involved.
    Making digital items for games and hangouts seems legit, but I'm not convinced it needs blockchain technology at all. Haven't people been selling custom dragon dicks in Second Life for over a decade now?

    As an artist i do like the idea we as creators get a cut every time a work is re-sold. However, i have a major problem with a digital online gallery, there is zero authenticity and empathy. What cleanses the participant is the physical world not a virtual one. Going to a physical gallery is like a confessional booth, you go in seeking redemption and you come out the other side redeemed. I can't see any sinners being washed in the digital version. LOL. During Covid, we as practicing artists were issued with the virtual alternative, it failed miserably. I'm all for future ways of living, but owning a digital piece of art has little meaning for me. I think there's a group of grifters at the back of the room pissing themselves laughing that the public is falling for this Metaverse. Maybe i'm wrong.?

    "This new automated tool that allows for guaranteed proof of origination and ownership of music, videos, images, and even text is called an NFT" That is only true if you can provide a step-by-step guide on how to find out the original author of any digital good. Surprise, NFTs cannot do that. If you find a file on the internet, and you want to find out its origins, NFTs are not going to help you. Now you just have to check multiple blockchains in addition to what you have done in a world without NFTs, and even then you cannot be sure because anyone can "mint" any digital good on any blockchain. It's possible that you don't find it on any blockchains, it is possible you find it on multiple blockchains with different authors, and even then the real author will probably not be among them. But ok let's say you get everybody to agree on using the same blockchain, and to utilize fingerprinting for integrity protection. Then what happens if I take the good and slightly change a single pixel? Did I create new art? The blockchain will say yes, but people will say no. NFTs are not a proof of origination of the digital good, you have to search for their "intrinsic value" elsewhere, and please tell me if you found it.

What keeps me from just grabbing one of those pictures and making an NFT? Nothing. And, that thing attached to the link can get changed at any time, as have been seen by the many many MANY NFT scams.
      Crypto currency is a currency for criminals, including pedophiles. (who else would feel the need to use a fake currency they believe is anonymous and untraceable?) NFT's are just a pyramid scheme that even has its own money laundering app.

Music: Perform it in concerts and do not allow recordings of it. Demand payment in decentralized blockchain money. You could also bind it all in digital form on a specific drive that you grant access to offline. Ask for payment in digital money. This is what I should have done with this reply, oh well.

Why on earth would you buy designer clothing for an avatar that only exists in a virtual space? Same for artwork, instead of putting in on your wall and being able to enjoy it each time you look at it, you're basically buying something you can only look at on your phone or laptop? So many questions! The more I learn, the less I understand.

    The greatest paradox on decentralization is selling the digital artwork/NFT to buyer in a marketplace.
    Isn't that the marketplace is the "centre"?
    Maybe big brand/celebrities can sell NFT directly to their fans/loyal customers without a marketplace, but a nobody/small potato without a marketplace, it's unlikely.
    Lastly, no matter how interesting about "smart contract", one should learn about the law on ownership before creating/minting those NFT. A poorly created "smart contract" may make the transaction illegitimate. Such that there is no ownership transfer.
    Despite all of my criticism, I'm glad the speaker admits there are complex problem need to be solved.

    Metaverse would kill small developers as it would require uniformity of software people wouldn't buy a small developer game because they can't bring their 300+ NFTs. Not only that but game files would so ridiculously big that it would require better hardware than most people could afford conversely imagine the hosting fees or just plane ole being bombarded with advertisements for in game purchases and they would be far more preditory than they are now.
    Also you use the term "de-centralized" when by its very nature it is nessisarily centralized. If an art gallery shuts down you can move a painting somewhere else, if the internet shuts down you are screwed.
