Thanks for really beautiful instrument! But can we use all articulation in only one midi track? Or have to split to 3 or more tracks for realistic feeling?
Excellent question! You can have up to 8 different parts (articulations) in one instance of Soundpaint. We have a new Rack > Keyswitch Module, which allows you to either trigger just one of the 8 articulations and/or as many as you want at the same time. This is a departure from how its conventionally been done in Kontakt - where you can normally only select one. The great thing about this is you can also load all sorta of different instruments (ex. 7 woodwind legatos on Part 1-7) and then try different color combinations by triggering multiple keyswitches at the SAME time. So both realistic feeling for solo instruments and/or ensembles. Cheers!
@@Soundpaintmusic I've got it, one more question please! I'm thinking about 8Dio Intimate Studio Woodwinds and your single Woodwinds instruments just like this 1987 Alto Flute, 1967 Clarinet Paris, 2004 Flute Platinus,... How can I choose between them? Thanks!
The best advice I can offer is to use your h(ear)t. Intimate Studio Woodwinds is dry studio woodwinds - very comprehensively sampled. Whereas the Soundpaint Woodwinds (aka Claire in 8Dio) are more expressive and emotional and recorded in a hall. Listen to the demos, watch the videos. Choose what speaks to your h(ear)t. Cheers, T
Yes. H.A.L will be our premiere technology in all groups of instruments moving forward. Strings, Brass, Choirs, , Winds, Guitars and everything in between. Can't wait to show you! Cheers, Troels
Awww - thanks Issie. Here is the wild thing ... Don't even think of the instruments as what they are ... The Alto Flute can become completely new things in Soundpaint ... And speaking of the Alto ... Try the JH Nostalgia program - notice how time is higher to create a more desperate type of vibrato. Try to right click on Rack > Time > Speed and choose Midi CC Automation and associate speed to your modwheel. You now have full vibrato speed control - like real ... human ... vibrato control. Cheers T
The fact that you guys are making these incredibly emoting and expressive libraries for under $50 is really incredible. Soundpaint truly is a pioneer in the future of sampling, letting us create amazing and realistic-sounding music. Bravo!
Hello Soundpaint! :) I have a question please: do you have any plans on implementing MPE support in soundpaint and also some kind of orchestral string library? (To be specific: I am looking into using fluid chords for chord bending, and to do that with strings would be, well, awesome :) ) Thanks.
A flautist who can only play slurred notes (legato) sounds very strange. For a performance to be natural it also needs notes that can be "tongued". Maybe that's for a future development?
I can't wait to see the first instrument that you will make personally designed for this system with legato. Stuff like these were made for Kontakt and designed to work with Kontakt. So I'm interested to see what new ideas you would make personally for this VST in the future.
This really amazing step forward in the sampling world, legato sounds so natural. Nevertheless I'd love to hear more articulation, staccato, spiccato, trills, overblow etc. I miss it in the demo, musically interesting, yet focused on harmony (not a typical way of writing for alto flute), legato and in similar tempo.and style. It would be great to know if we can control amount of vibrato as well. Anyways, fantastic instrument, can't wait for more.
Yep! MJ here (made the Programs) The library has fairly standard articulations. Arcs, Breaths & Clicks (if you want those), legatos, trills, runs, marcato, staccatissimo, and sustains. Trills and runs all have speed programmed to the MW, just like the pre-recorded rhythmic articulations in the Soprano Sax, so you can control the speeds they play. There is also the Legato Vib Speed Program that is specifically designed for vibrato speed control and has speed mapped to the MW. Hope this helps!
Thank you! What we are doing is building technology and instruments with our hearts instead of mere logic. We wanna create something users can feel - something that resembles a true acoustic experience. Not just cold digital 0 and 1s, but something that is breathing and alive. Whether it is in the code or in the instruments. Cheers, Troels.
Great sound. Shame that we're not shown how to get these sounds. He's obviously doing some stuff as well as his great playing. Can we have something that just shows us the detail of doing some simple stuff. I suspect that there's some sustain pedal and what is the modulation controlling. Hey we're not all virtuosos.🙂
@@Soundpaintmusic And maybe add some classic Theramin timbres within the same instrument for legato ensemble layering options with the whistling. Or a separate Theramin instrument, for the Clara Rockmore, classic, melodic, melancholic, old school Theramin feel. Or something you could track over old Tomita and Vangelis feels. But whistling, just itself, would be badass, no doubt.
@@Soundpaintmusic Now I’m imagining one day seeing a Soundpaint instrument demo video for a human whistle, with a thumbnail of puckered, whistling lips, in the style of the other thumbnails. 😂
Incredible. I also love alto flutes! Would you consider recording an alto flute ensemble? a3 or a4 would be awesome (a2 ensembles can have some tuning issues, having 3+ "smooths out" the tiny tuning differences between the players IMO). Both with and without some standard flutes (2 altos + 1 concert, 2 altos + 2 concerts, or 3 altos + 1 concert, whatever is needed to match the alto ensemble size). These would be interesting alternatives to a standard orchestral flute section.
Already in the works - thats exactly how we want it too! Soundpaint is 100% a modular engine and all libraries live together, which easily facilitates the above. Totally agreed. Cheers, T

Question: do all the legatos stop after about 1.5s? Is it possible to hold notes longer than that? Seems like in all the demos there is a cutoff after about 1.5s.
Hi, MJ here (designer of the Programs) When legato is activated the sustain naturally fades out after about 1.5s, which is more realistic for longer phrases, and was a part of the design of the original library. To counter this, there are two Programs that were made to compensate for the shorter Sustains, JH Nostaligia and Legato Phase Sustain, which hold for the duration of the entire sustain. There is also Legato Vib Speed, which allows you to control the speed of the Vibrato on the MW and is also capable of holding the notes a little longer as well. To answer your question, most of the legato Programs do end after about 1.5s, aside from the ones I mentioned, but those were specifically designed to hold notes a little longer. Hope that helps!
@@marissajohnson-MJ Hi Marissa, thanks for taking the time to answer questions. I get the 'realism' logic, although flute players can hold their breath for a lot longer than 1.5 seconds :) The kontakt version of the Claire flute always had the same problem.
