I did the the challenge before this .. I ordered 2 feathers life got in the way so I’m preparing myself for doing this challenge.. couple years behind but I’m still in .. thank you Mrs.walters
Dear Angela, Don't feel bad !! Those of us that have served or are serving our country in the armed forces of the United States of America did it so you CAN pursue Happiness by quilting to your hearts content. We were and are glad to do it, please take it from a former Ssgt. Go Air Force!
Thank you Angela for waiting for those of us who ordered later than others.
Thanks for having your panels American made!
No apologies needed for the delay. Appreciate your inclusion of the people who are still waiting. I ordered my panel the minute it came out. Haha! I always do, because I love your panels and the lessons that go with them.
I have been a long time angela fan HOWEVER,,, just because one can not not afford panels, doesn't make us any less committed the these challenges....
Aloha from Hawaii! This is awesome. I’ve set an alarm for every Thursday!
I'm glad for the delay. Not ready yet.
I’m actually relieved it’s postponed a week. I have unexpected visitors and will spend the week with them.
I love how you encourage everyone, no matter their experience or type of equipment. Confidence seems to be an almost universal stumbling block. ❤️
Such a beautiful quilting design! Great chat! Thanks for sharing!
Yay for the delay in starting……my panel cleared Canadian customs, but hasn’t arrived here in British Columbia yet. I will be watching the videos and then applying them once my fabric arrives. Thanks for all the great information and tips. Angela, you are a very generous quilter!
Love feathers...just can't do them very well. I keep hoping the "click" happens but not so far. Angela you are truly inspiring!!!
Angela you are so great at what you do! Please keep going! Thank you 😊
I'm super excited about this even if it starts a week late. I won't be starting mine for another 6 weeks after it starts so have a little longer to wait but love joining in with the live chats and Q&A anyway.
Gorgeous slider!
Loved your demo today. I think I will use some plain fabric and colored thread to try out what you demonstrated today!
I am looking at joining in on one of these quilts.
Finished my first ever quilt and thank you Angela for the tips on ruler work. Used two of those and got it finished ✅.
Now starting on a quilt for grandson So practicing quilting for a boy. Any suggestions for what type of quilting would be welcome. Thanks for all you do
Hi Angela, I have just been enjoying the live chat for the feather basics, it's fabulous, thanks. I notice when you are doing your quilting that you have no pins and the sandwich appears to have no basting either, is this typical of your preferred style? I am sure I have seen this practice on some of your other tutorials, do you have a recommendation for large quilts? I understand the need for freedom of space to stretch out for the feathers, but worry about movement between the layers when in motion. I look forward for your take on what is best.
She uses Quilter’s Dream 1 sided fusible batting, with the fusible side towards the quilt top. I’m not sure if she’s using a basting powder on the backing side but she typically doesn’t use spray. Hope this helps. (PS basting powder is awesome! I use Free Fuse.) 🙂
Please use a darker thread. Really had trouble seeing your work. Thank you for explaining your process on the feathers.
I’m wondering, since you like stitch in the ditch,, if those who are afraid to begin try free motion outlining the different parts of the design.
I missed the beginning of your chat, but I heard you say something to the effect that the challenge was starting a week later. So please clarify does the challenge start on 16th or a week later? Because a week later is 23rd???
Just learned about “mctavishing” quilting. It looks similar to how you quilt with the feathers and other designs. Is it different?
Thank you Angela. Video was very helpful. I have a question. I was wondering about the pillow panels. Is the pillow panel the same size as the inside of the large panel? I was thinking about ordering it to practice the inside.
Hi Angela bought some glide thread and I love it. Will be working on the challenge but have many things to quilt then I can count.. I have a butterfly panel with all shades of purple any suggestions on thread color? I know not seeing it is difficult so I understand thank you.
Do you take the backlash spring out of your bobbin case when using prewound magna glide bobbins?
I’m interested (and terrified) of learning FMQ. I’m fortunate enough to have a HQ Capri sit down and a Grace Q’nique 21 Pro, new to both. Initially I thought I could learn FMQ on the sit down and then transition to the long arm. Since the mechanics are different (moving fabric vs. moving machine), would you recommended a different order? I’d also like to learn ruler work. Is that best left to learn AFTER or BEFORE FMQ? Same question regarding learning ruler work on sit down first or long arm first?
Hi Angela and followers! I have a question, I have my panel (w borders) basted, and am now going to stabliize with some stitch in the ditch. I was going to do the outline of the star, the grey boxes and border but was wondering if there are other areas to consider (or not) depending on how the quilting plan is going to be. I don't want to accidentally section off an area we will be doing something else with, if that makes sense...thanks.
Are you going to do any of the challenge quilting on your longarm as well?
I'm re-asking sandra mcinturffs excellent question from the chat....does moving the fabric slower make smaller stitches or using the foot peddle faster make smaller stitches.
Both things produce smaller stitches. Its a balance between needle speed and hand movement that you want.
What do you use as a guide when bumping back?
On the humpback feather I’m having trouble making to top of the feather close off. Do you just try and land at the top of the spine and then make a teardrop?
I like to use the same thread in the bobbin.I bought your thread collection. Is there enough thread for top and bottom?
Can I do the challenge going back and forth between domestic machine and long arm? Or is best to do tge whole thing on same machine? Thanks! Bija in Boston
what is a good machine for free motion quilting?
You said the live videos will be on Thursdays. I thought it was supposed to start on November 16, which is a Tuesday. I know the start will be delayed but, are the demos on Tuesdays or Thursdays? Also, where can I find the schedule? I saw it once but can’t find it again. Thanks.
The one time I’m ready and the challenge is delayed damn.. when will it be starting now
I can quilt pretty good on my mini quilts, it's the bed size quilts I gave up on. It is so hard to push and pull the quilt around. I end out with major neck and shoulder pain. What am I doing wrong to have this happen?
Make sure all the weight of the quilt is on the table. When quilt hangs over the side it pulls and makes you need to pull and push excess weight around. To extend table space I drop my ironing board to table height and set it on my left to hold more of the quilt weight. Also take breaks frequently and stretch your neck and rotate your shoulders.
You said the machine you are demoing on has been discontinued. Do you have that machine on sale?
How do put the slider on ?
Hi Angela. Glad to know you!! I'm using the Singer Futura XL 420 sewing and embroidery machine. But I couldn't do free motion quilting with more confidence like you do in your sewing machine because the thread breaks when I keep on quilting. Why does that happen? : (
check your tension ,your tension on the top has to be bigger to stop it from breaking . I know that from experience . also make sure you load your spool correctly on your machine . it has to flow in the correct direction . your bobbin also has to be placed in the correct way to stop it from bunching up at the back . all this is tension . keep adjusting your tension slowly upward higher towards the bigger number and keep checking always front and back of the material to see how your sewing is forming how your stitching is whether they are tight or loose , do a test piece before doing on a proper piece.
@@thusheelachurchill9775 thank you so much for helping. I will check on your advices. Thanks a lot again..
also you need to change your needle as well that sometimes can cause the thread to break
I always change to a new needle when I do free motion or to any piercing work it helps with my work
@@thusheelachurchill9775 yes I thought this idea too. Thank you xx
Will there be a chat on Thanksgiving?
How do I order a panel.
Do you always use a ruler free motion foot if so why?
I use a ruler foot all the time so I do not have to break threat when I switch from using a ruler to free motion.
Will you include how to change thread colors in your demonstration? I'm hoping this isn't too basic to include. Thanks!
Did anyone else have a problem with having enough backing fabric that bought the panel and boarders?
I didn’t do the boarders so I have a decent size piece of backing leftover
Why would you want to hide your feathers
