I was fortunate to see them in Toronto on Sept.7 1964 literally the day before I started high school! I’m now 72 years old and still feel like a young fan! Music definitely keeps you young.
Thank you for sharing your memories! Youth is always fleeting but experience and passion are forever and you are always “young” if you can keep that alive.
Fun fact: before The Who (and many subsequent bands) made it a regular part of their act, The Beatles were the first to damage an instrument in a live, on stage concert at this show. When they were rocking out I'm Down, and John was going crazy on the Vox Continental keyboard playing it with his elbows and pounding the keys, he accidentally broke two of the keys on it.
I was in the grade school when Hey Jude came out. We had a small room where they sold concessions, candy bars, chips, gum, in the room was a Juke Box. For literally months that song played almost all day long and everyone loved it. It was one of the most popular songs that I can remember, to this day, I still like it.
My sister and I saw their concert in Manila, I was 18 then, and I thought to myself that they are the greatest band of all!! It’s just sad that they broke up 😢
Reflecting on this short broadcast, I realise how lucky I am, to say that I saw the Beatles live in concert in 1963 at my local town hall, Birmingham UK. They deplaced Roy Orbison as top of the bill (which didn't please this fan of the big 'O') but yep, I saw them!
Funny Joe, You seemed to fascinated with a concert & band that happened when you were 2 years old. Im a coupla/5 years your senior. Im a “American Pie” Don McLean fan, the release date is list as 1971. I clearly remember it changed my life when I first heard it in 1969. In Mississippi City, Mississippi. That explains allot.
Peter Jackson's Get Back demystifies the Beatles' end. Without Epstien, centrifugal forces pulled them apart. A Rick Rubin might have kept them together a couple more years, but maybe not. What's clear is that they were far from creatively spent, which suggests great music that will never be.
I couldn’t see signs of break up of the Beatles breaking up in 1965. I was there, and I assume you were, and at that tender age, it wasn’t evident. John being a contrarian was part of our perception of them. So, there may have been signs to an astute, older, intellectual, of a Beatles breakup, but not to us who mattered.
This lady is a fan-loon. The baby boom was at a peak demographically but Elvis played stadiums in the late ‘50s (a young Hendrix attended) & Sinatra-mania drove teens of the 40s mad, filling theaters & arenas of that era with a smaller teen demo that would bulge by’64. Music is not a competition & so many cultural markers-such as appearances on Ed Sullivan & or film rank equally for each era.

The Beatles were better than everybody else but they were still respectful towards other bands. No, they were not competitive with other artists.
Thanks for this segment ,Joe !!!

I was in fifth grade. Parents let us stay up past our 8:30 Sunday bed time to watch the Beatles on Ed sullivan.
Now is the time to release the footage for all the fans to enjoy it :)

One of the best concert in a American history the beatles topped America greatest band ever wrote there own songs lennon macartney
Just to put it in perspective: This happened 57 years ago. If today it was 1990, this would be an event that happened in 1933 😂
And I love that Brian Epstein was there - standing by the stage - looking out at the crowd. I’ve always wondered - what was he thinking ?

Beautiful insight!
Great segment. Of course.
I was 5th row center isle at the Portland concert in '65. The ticket was the best$5.00 I ever spent. Yeah, five bucks!
Epstein's role as band manager was never replaced, and ultimately the lack of strong managerial leadership contributed significantly to the break-up.
