Incase you didn't know they learn engrish in JP schools frequently and gamers there like it as much as we like alittle JP here and there. - arks-layer.com/ Full(roughly 90% not 75% unless you care about weapon lore) translation pack and tutorial on how to sign up is on bumped.org/psublog/ I found it within 5seconds of googling PSO2 english patch. -psubumped also has translations for PS4 version and how to sign up on devices outside PC. -They have full translation(and archieve) for every single thing released incase the tweaker translation is lacking. - They released SEA and stated it was the world wide version -Western release was stalled by a massive DDoS attack on SEGA followed by afew other attacks, some of which was traced back to USA. Thank your fellow americans. -IP ban was temperary and SEGA let everyone in little by little, eventually leading to them IP banning the most porblematic countries. -The developer of PSO2 stated that he loves outsiders playing his games and he welcomes western players to his online game. You make it sound like SEGA was just a lazy company when they clearly stated that they do not care if we play as long as we don't stir trouble. -You can unlock subclasses from Koffee at the quest counter. Only point to finishing story outside interest is to unlock Tokyo+Featured quests. -I'm still surprised you showed arkslayer at the end after spending the first half complaining about the game in japanese and picking at the language barrier. Outside that the icons are dead give-aways to your skills and items. Only translations needed are for affixes(abilities you put on gear) and Class Abilities. -Some places look bad? I'm surprised you pointed out Las Vegas considering it looks pretty similar and is pretty well done. If anything I would say the stage is too small but it seems they didn't want to ruin the feel of vegas with RNG map tiles. If you wanted to complain about something you should have mentioned how draw distance hinders you greatly in defense missions or how some classes come out far too weak at endgame. I can't say I dislike the video since there was some points in there. Great commentary! This is highly underrated, I think so! I recently discovered this game, and I have huge wiener for it. Also, I think the speckled English is there, because a lot of Japanese people actually understand English, maybe some parts. It adds some sort of profoundness to it, maybe in their culture, which is probably why the funky sounding announcer announces in English. It's like refering to "coup de grâce." I mean, you could just use your native tongue to express "finish off" or "mercy killing," but if you refer to "coup de grâce," literates beyond just English, say French, would pick up the attenuation. Yeah, the ep4 story sucks, just ignore it, or do ep 1~3 story if youre into it. They are good, but take a while to unlock.... All the enemis and stages youre criticising btw are from the ep4 expansion. So yeah, they fucked big time in ep4.
Actually, compared to PSO1's dark, tragic story, the whole PSO2 story is pretty crappy. I think their mistake was going way too "anime" with it (happened in PSU as well).
Guilherme Cardoso I fucking agree man. I loved PSO2 when it first came out but then ep 4 you kinda knew that they were running out of ideas. Plus I don't really like the anime style they've influenced on it either. I stopped playing this shit when EP 4 came out.
ep 1 is too slow unfortunately, also ep 5 is out and so far it's... 'huh', can't really say if it's good or bad, but at the moment atleast the incentive to me is the dark falz transformation power that may be unlockable from ep 5 story only

Phantasy Star is cyberpunk. An Earth setting isn't really that unreasonable (episode 4 gets better over time, trust me) . Also, I think you might want to try playing episodes 1-3, just saying. It's not like it could get worse than Karen's role in Ambition of the Illuminus where she goes from strong independent female character to damsel in distress who refused to get rescued because she's been brainwashed into her abusive relationship with her father anyway. Khori meanwhile was a DID for like half a cutscene.

Have to agree with pretty much everything you said, minus most parts about the English. Native Japanese has a lot of English words, just spoken in their "way". It's very trendy to have English in some menus in Japanese games/videos/animes/movies/whathaveyou. Story (at least 4+) is garbage, even JP players agree with that. Same for the anime.
i started playing PSO2. Im disappointed that they ruined the Phantasy by throwing in real world stuff. Why did they think that was a good idea? I really wish i didnt know that stuff existed. Side note: i do love your passion for the series, i just wish Sega realized that they dropped the ball on this in favor of giving us countless sonic titles.
I have been playing this game for 5 years. But in it's current state i couldn't recommend it to anybody. Quality of content has been slowly degrading since the end of episode 3. But the most recent episode 5 update has brought the game to an unforeseen low. Pso2 has been suffering from slowly decreasing class balance for a long time now, but episode 5 brought another new class that put a metaphorical nail in the coffin. Hero was so powerful at all aspects of the game that all other classes no longer come close to competing. The class was so strong that game content that had already for all intents and purposes become a cake for even casual players, became obsolete completele and because Hero can do everything every other class can do better the vast majority of the player started only using Hero, with the only people not using Hero were people too new to unlock the class requirements or stubborn Rangers (Rangers were abysmally bad at this point but they had Weak Bullet which makes Rangers popular people). Now with a very recent update in response to complaints about this major balance problem Sega in their genius instead of hard nerfing the monster of a class they had made decided to Majorly buff most other classes (which for Rangers was a bloody godsend). The unfortunate side effect of this however is that the content that was already mostly doable by a half party of motor impaired down syndrome players, is now at a level of difficulty that 2 ADD suffering, half blind crippled toddlers could manage on their own. This coupled with the fact that Episode 5 has brought almost no new content and a story that while not god awful from a narrative stand point, (looking at you Episode 4) has been done so lazily that it doesn't even try to hide how little effort has been put in for 90% of it, comes together to show that Sega no longer cares about it's players and is soley focused on milking as much money as physically possible from it's fans while putting in the minimal effort possible in maintaining their cash cow. Again i have been playing this game for 5 years, and understand that there is some really really amazing things about this game, from it's awesome character creation and ongoing fashion and salon system, to the games visuals and music and even to a degree its fun combat system. But as it stands as of this post, the game has just become a glorified anime style social game with a side of super easy gameplay.
Also for all people watching this video, the fact that Maj0r lee's biggest gripe with the game is solely based on the awful story from Episode 4 which every single Phantasy star online 2 player wishes we could erase from existence means that he has very little indepth experience of the game and has likely only played enough to make this review. The Original epiosdes 1-3 have a very good, interesting, engaging, not "cliche high school anime" story that is relevant to the actual game which involves space evil, time travel and saving the universe and is now easily accessible in omnibus format. Please do not judge this game on Episode 4. Episode 4 was a bad joke that sega should be ashamed of and was just a poor attempt at advertising. There are plenty of things legitimately wrong with this game but please do not judge it on the abomination that was episode 4 god please.
That’s hilarious how you say about setting up all the Japanese accounts.. I done the same on PC when it first came out.. I play it for like 2 hours and hated that I couldn’t read anything and never went back to it but my brain was always jealous hoping we’d get an English version

There is a english patch for this game its called "ark layer" this patch has been here ever since pso2 first launched. Along with a discord group who still playing this game. The patch is 90% complete.
As of now, majority of translation is completed, if you check the patch its more than 10%. Probably you haven't check the latest patch updates have you?
Free to play, not P2W based, relying on co-op for raid class quest, good graphics, fan service, PVP is optional not a mandatory to advance (get stronger). What else you could ask? This game is worth to play although the sign up is very troublesome...
the EXP boost can be obtained from just completing the Story quests and getting the title rewards plus Matterboards gives you said items as a requirement to get past a node so that statement is invalid. its further made more invalid because you can get the same cash items from events and login stamps, and if you have a team, the photon tree gives a 2 hr EXP buff. I can understand the AC scratch but even the items are tradable. the ONLY advantage is maybe getting the Noble Soul items, but everything can be obtained by a free player and at the same speed as a premium user (I am a premium user so I know)
nope, you obtain the rare drop boost from excubes which you get from capping your character at lvl 75 and also from running EQs and buster quests and also you get like 120 50% triboosts by the time you finish episode 2 and 85 by episode 3 and doing limited and advance quests is the best way to level past lvl 67 so as to utilize the triboost usage at its limit.
Scape dolls and half dolls are obtainable from login stamp and even premium users never use scape dolls unless they are solo-ing or the MPA is so bad they had to carry and unfortunately, used their halfdoll prior. And with half dolls you can only carry one at all times. Scape dolls are useless to bother cash in them because they are expensive for no reason and that money can be used on more important things *AC scratch gacha* .They are there for people who want to retain the S rank with 0 incapacitate count but you have group ress so you will be fine so long as the person knows where to stand and use them (moon Atomisers-they can be bought from the store for like what 300+ mesa or something and you can carry 5 at a go so teamwork is needed to survive)because the thing leaves you open to everything and their grandmother's attacks.
I mean if you have a PC all you really need is the pso2 tweaker and boom english patch easy to launch no hassle probably will be a better version to as I doubt the west will have most the colab content

They ran the original PSO just fine..... until you couldn't play it anymore. Other console versions work fine. But PSO on XBOX is lost to the dust of time.
Man, looking at the state of MHW today, I wish SEGA will do something similar with PSO (PSO: World maybe?). Idk, I love this game to death when my friend introduced me to it 5 years ago, even surpassed him in class levelling and weapon farming. I like the grind, but I do appreciate stories, and I can get the community patch to work on story modes, so I've no idea what the story is till this day and apparently there's different arcs. This what kills the game for me, and the fact that I'm always on the verge of getting banned for not being a Japanese player makes it harder for me to be invested.

NA release is a terrible idea. Considering the years of grinding done by foreign players and the establishment of the foreign community in English servers, it's just impossible to think of migration of dedicated and knowledgeable players. Additionally, the market on said servers are just perfect the way it is where you can buy stuff that cost real $$ with in-game money affordably. And finally, collaborations with other stuff like anime and video games makes NA release impossible because of licensing laws. And if you haven't played PSO2 and asking why care about those? Collaboration is one of PSO2's biggest lifelines. With the slow updates of new content(that gets easily finished), they get so much money out of virtual costumes. Also if you have played mmorpg's long enough, surely you would know how most eastern mmo's get treated in NA. I don't know whether SEGA JP or SEGA NA would be responsible but regardless, how do we know they won't succumb to the terrible p2w practices? Disclaimer: Word of mouth
All really, REALLY shit arguments--except for the one about licensing. That one has a "little" merit to it. Truth is simply that JP devs live in JP bubbles and don't realize how much bigger the market would have been if they didn't have a shitty, condescending attitude toward their Western audience. Whatever they may have lost in collab deals would have been easily recouped (and then some) through the exponentially larger audience. It's also not as if they couldn't do collabs in NA; it just requires a bit more work and coordination is all. They are hardly illegal unless you are trying to do it without the permission of the other companies who own those IPs.
It was pretty decent. So bullshit how they completely forgot everything PSO2 lore for episode 4 and went for a shitty generic anime plot, when the rest of the series has mainly been solidly scifi. Ep4 was a borderline highschool romcom in the beginning and got SO contrived as it went on.
Phantasy Star Online for the Dreamcast is still my favorite game from the past. P.S Put Nintendo Switch in the tags, you'll get more views for sure. (this game is coming for the Switch in Japan)

Well this video didn’t age well...in a good way. I recently got into MMOs with FFXIV and am almost to the first expansion. I assume I’ll be done with all 3 by the time this is out. I think I’ll give it a try. I really like the aesthetics of the world, even if the characters look like cute Xenoblade X knockoffs.
The reason PSO2 hasn't come to America is pretty much because there are so many cash shop items that are crossovers from other games and Japanese pop culture sources. They'd either have to license these alternate sources or eliminate them all together. In their previous games they'd replace Japanese magazines with Nintendo Power Magazines, or other somewhat related weapons. A lot of fans of the game will probably complain if they took out these "easter egg" items. Personally I just want to play the game..

probably because its not 'OFFICIAL' and no one wants to play on a game put effort and time in your account and then suddenly an english version will pop out rendering your account worthless (at least back then when it first came out) also note the SEA version of PSO2 Shutdown since last may 2016 so no more actual english version out there
releasing an english version is a mistake at this point. Most likely the content in the official English version would be less than the 75% translated content on the Japanese version. And considering there are too much non-Japanese players who play the translated Japanese version at this point, the arguement "rendering your account worthless" is now completely invalid.
Ok first off, you have a great commentary style and sense of humor. Often people fail when they attempt humor imo, this immediately = sub from me. The structuring and editing is something i would expect from a 20k+ subs channel. Not that i'm some sort of pro-content creator, i haven't done shit in weeks, it just means i have an eye for people who put forth more effort than the average bear. Now about PSO2... i was one of those people sitting there waiting, and then i just kind of got pissed off, chalked it up to more modern day MMO disappointment and moved on. But hearing about the English friendly installer and patch, i'm definitely looking into downloading today if i can. I got into the original WAY too late, everyone had hacked mags on xbox and the server was shutting down just a few months after i got in if i remember right. I wanted it when Dreamcast was a thing... didn't happen obviously. Anyways, the number of views on this, is indicative of just how badly SEGA dropped the ball with this series. PSU was fun, but idk... i didn't stick with that one very long. Love the housing in it though, and my god the weapons... but yeah. Hopefully this DOES come to the West eventually but i'm not waiting for it to come to me any longer. It just sucks that this didn't have a really big following, same with monster hunter, which is why we never got Frontier. Now THAT was a pain to install, and then the English patch got nuked...

Yeah, the ep4 story sucks, just ignore it, or do ep 1~3 story if youre into it. They are good, but take a while to unlock.... All the enemis and stages youre criticising btw are from the ep4 expansion. So yeah, they fucked big time in ep4.

Phantasy Star is cyberpunk. An Earth setting isn't really that unreasonable (episode 4 gets better over time, trust me) . Also, I think you might want to try playing episodes 1-3, just saying. It's not like it could get worse than Karen's role in Ambition of the Illuminus where she goes from strong independent female character to damsel in distress who refused to get rescued because she's been brainwashed into her abusive relationship with her father anyway. Khori meanwhile was a DID for like half a cutscene.

Have to agree with pretty much everything you said, minus most parts about the English. Native Japanese has a lot of English words, just spoken in their "way". It's very trendy to have English in some menus in Japanese games/videos/animes/movies/whathaveyou.
Story (at least 4+) is garbage, even JP players agree with that. Same for the anime.
i started playing PSO2. Im disappointed that they ruined the Phantasy by throwing in real world stuff. Why did they think that was a good idea? I really wish i didnt know that stuff existed.

I have been playing this game for 5 years. But in it's current state i couldn't recommend it to anybody. Quality of content has been slowly degrading since the end of episode 3. But the most recent episode 5 update has brought the game to an unforeseen low. Pso2 has been suffering from slowly decreasing class balance for a long time now, but episode 5 brought another new class that put a metaphorical nail in the coffin. Hero was so powerful at all aspects of the game that all other classes no longer come close to competing. The class was so strong that game content that had already for all intents and purposes become a cake for even casual players, became obsolete completele and because Hero can do everything every other class can do better the vast majority of the player started only using Hero, with the only people not using Hero were people too new to unlock the class requirements or stubborn Rangers (Rangers were abysmally bad at this point but they had Weak Bullet which makes Rangers popular people). Now with a very recent update in response to complaints about this major balance problem Sega in their genius instead of hard nerfing the monster of a class they had made decided to Majorly buff most other classes (which for Rangers was a bloody godsend). The unfortunate side effect of this however is that the content that was already mostly doable by a half party of motor impaired down syndrome players, is now at a level of difficulty that 2 ADD suffering, half blind crippled toddlers could manage on their own. This coupled with the fact that Episode 5 has brought almost no new content and a story that while not god awful from a narrative stand point, (looking at you Episode 4) has been done so lazily that it doesn't even try to hide how little effort has been put in for 90% of it, comes together to show that Sega no longer cares about it's players and is soley focused on milking as much money as physically possible from it's fans while putting in the minimal effort possible in maintaining their cash cow.
Again i have been playing this game for 5 years, and understand that there is some really really amazing things about this game, from it's awesome character creation and ongoing fashion and salon system, to the games visuals and music and even to a degree its fun combat system. But as it stands as of this post, the game has just become a glorified anime style social game with a side of super easy gameplay.
Also for all people watching this video, the fact that Maj0r lee's biggest gripe with the game is solely based on the awful story from Episode 4 which every single Phantasy star online 2 player wishes we could erase from existence means that he has very little indepth experience of the game and has likely only played enough to make this review. The Original epiosdes 1-3 have a very good, interesting, engaging, not "cliche high school anime" story that is relevant to the actual game which involves space evil, time travel and saving the universe and is now easily accessible in omnibus format. Please do not judge this game on Episode 4. Episode 4 was a bad joke that sega should be ashamed of and was just a poor attempt at advertising. There are plenty of things legitimately wrong with this game but please do not judge it on the abomination that was episode 4 god please.

There is a english patch for this game its called "ark layer" this patch has been here ever since pso2 first launched. Along with a discord group who still playing this game. The patch is 90% complete.
As of now, majority of translation is completed, if you check the patch its more than 10%. Probably you haven't check the latest patch updates have you?

Free to play, not P2W based, relying on co-op for raid class quest, good graphics, fan service, PVP is optional not a mandatory to advance (get stronger). What else you could ask? This game is worth to play although the sign up is very troublesome...
the sign up is the true Expert Boss of playing the game, followed closely by Dudu and Monica
the EXP boost can be obtained from just completing the Story quests and getting the title rewards plus Matterboards gives you said items as a requirement to get past a node so that statement is invalid. its further made more invalid because you can get the same cash items from events and login stamps, and if you have a team, the photon tree gives a 2 hr EXP buff. I can understand the AC scratch but even the items are tradable.
the ONLY advantage is maybe getting the Noble Soul items, but everything can be obtained by a free player and at the same speed as a premium user (I am a premium user so I know)
nope, you obtain the rare drop boost from excubes which you get from capping your character at lvl 75 and also from running EQs and buster quests and also you get like 120 50% triboosts by the time you finish episode 2 and 85 by episode 3 and doing limited and advance quests is the best way to level past lvl 67 so as to utilize the triboost usage at its limit.
and also you can buy the 75% from the stores so you still have the benefit and they are cheap as well
Scape dolls and half dolls are obtainable from login stamp and even premium users never use scape dolls unless they are solo-ing or the MPA is so bad they had to carry and unfortunately, used their halfdoll prior. And with half dolls you can only carry one at all times. Scape dolls are useless to bother cash in them because they are expensive for no reason and that money can be used on more important things *AC scratch gacha* .They are there for people who want to retain the S rank with 0 incapacitate count but you have group ress so you will be fine so long as the person knows where to stand and use them (moon Atomisers-they can be bought from the store for like what 300+ mesa or something and you can carry 5 at a go so teamwork is needed to survive)because the thing leaves you open to everything and their grandmother's attacks.

Idk, I love this game to death when my friend introduced me to it 5 years ago, even surpassed him in class levelling and weapon farming. I like the grind, but I do appreciate stories, and I can get the community patch to work on story modes, so I've no idea what the story is till this day and apparently there's different arcs. This what kills the game for me, and the fact that I'm always on the verge of getting banned for not being a Japanese player makes it harder for me to be invested.

NA release is a terrible idea. Considering the years of grinding done by foreign players and the establishment of the foreign community in English servers, it's just impossible to think of migration of dedicated and knowledgeable players. Additionally, the market on said servers are just perfect the way it is where you can buy stuff that cost real $$ with in-game money affordably.
And finally, collaborations with other stuff like anime and video games makes NA release impossible because of licensing laws. And if you haven't played PSO2 and asking why care about those? Collaboration is one of PSO2's biggest lifelines. With the slow updates of new content(that gets easily finished), they get so much money out of virtual costumes.
Also if you have played mmorpg's long enough, surely you would know how most eastern mmo's get treated in NA. I don't know whether SEGA JP or SEGA NA would be responsible but regardless, how do we know they won't succumb to the terrible p2w practices?

All really, REALLY shit arguments--except for the one about licensing. That one has a "little" merit to it. Truth is simply that JP devs live in JP bubbles and don't realize how much bigger the market would have been if they didn't have a shitty, condescending attitude toward their Western audience. Whatever they may have lost in collab deals would have been easily recouped (and then some) through the exponentially larger audience. It's also not as if they couldn't do collabs in NA; it just requires a bit more work and coordination is all. They are hardly illegal unless you are trying to do it without the permission of the other companies who own those IPs.

actually they weren't at all, microsoft just baught the rights to the english version so they can make it exclusive to xbox and pc, you will never see it hitting ps4 because sega owns the rights to the ps4 version in Japanese, and have no intention on making it english for ps4 anytime soon XD but that's what i've herd though

Well this video didn’t age well...in a good way. I recently got into MMOs with FFXIV and am almost to the first expansion. I assume I’ll be done with all 3 by the time this is out. I think I’ll give it a try. I really like the aesthetics of the world, even if the characters look like cute Xenoblade X knockoffs.

The reason PSO2 hasn't come to America is pretty much because there are so many cash shop items that are crossovers from other games and Japanese pop culture sources. They'd either have to license these alternate sources or eliminate them all together. In their previous games they'd replace Japanese magazines with Nintendo Power Magazines, or other somewhat related weapons. A lot of fans of the game will probably complain if they took out these "easter egg" items. Personally I just want to play the game..

Western hate episode 4. Japan still loves it. I still love it too (episode 2 and 3 are better though). SEGA just cant satisfy western playerbase's taste because the game is intended for Japanese after all. If you think the story is bad it is okay, thats your opinion. Atleast people that love it think it is good story (in their opinion). I dont see anything wrong with tokyo bgm. If it is bad because the singer trying so hard at english thats okay. But whats wrong with SEGA put freaking J-POP on "their" (not yours) freaking Japanese Game. But I must agree with you that Phantom's overall design is weird and doesn't make sense. Anyway if your "complain" about episode 4 is because something related to other phantasy star series, then I cant really say anything I never play other phantasy star games before.

probably because its not 'OFFICIAL' and no one wants to play on a game put effort and time in your account and then suddenly an english version will pop out rendering your account worthless (at least back then when it first came out)
also note the SEA version of PSO2 Shutdown since last may 2016 so no more actual english version out there
releasing an english version is a mistake at this point. Most likely the content in the official English version would be less than the 75% translated content on the Japanese version. And considering there are too much non-Japanese players who play the translated Japanese version at this point, the arguement "rendering your account worthless" is now completely invalid.

Now about PSO2... i was one of those people sitting there waiting, and then i just kind of got pissed off, chalked it up to more modern day MMO disappointment and moved on. But hearing about the English friendly installer and patch, i'm definitely looking into downloading today if i can. I got into the original WAY too late, everyone had hacked mags on xbox and the server was shutting down just a few months after i got in if i remember right. I wanted it when Dreamcast was a thing... didn't happen obviously.
Anyways, the number of views on this, is indicative of just how badly SEGA dropped the ball with this series. PSU was fun, but idk... i didn't stick with that one very long. Love the housing in it though, and my god the weapons... but yeah. Hopefully this DOES come to the West eventually but i'm not waiting for it to come to me any longer. It just sucks that this didn't have a really big following, same with monster hunter, which is why we never got Frontier. Now THAT was a pain to install, and then the English patch got nuked...
