Why not replace the electrical tape? Seems like it could have a measurable effect on thermals (though probably not too high), especially when the heatsink inevitably gets full of dust again, as the air might prefer to escape through the slit and out the bottom vents.
Thinking about it, it could make for an interesting video to see how much of a difference forcing the air from a fan through the heatsink could make. It could potentially be useful for taming hot running laptops
Yea it won't make any significant difference. A little bit of air will go over the top f the heatpipe instead of under it - it's still hitting the heatpipe. Macbooks don't bother directing airflow at all, as long as it's all going past the heatpipe that's what matters. You'd probably see a bigger difference on a laptop with a bigger fin stack on it, mind you, but not this dinky thing.

Everybody in the comments is like "BENT HEAT PIPE" and "YOU FORGOT THE TAPE" Meanwhile I'm here like the chip is configured at 15w, maybe 25w and both of these things really wouldn't be an issue. Once the pipe isn't broken and the fan spins, I assume it'll be fine
Basically this. There's a time and a place when a bent heatpipe and some tape might matter. A typical internet-browser laptop isn't it. Gaming and workstation laptops that are gasping for air all the time, yes this would be far more relevant, but for most cheap laptops that the majority of people own - massively overthinking it.
@@Adamant_IT Not sure if I am also overthinking it, but seeing as this computer has an i5-8250U, the customer has minecraft installed, as well as other gaming applications and on top of that coretemp, I myself would at least have run a stress test to check temps after a fan change.

I got a new laptop a month ago, and now when I start the laptop there's a buzzing noise for 2-3 sec from left side of speaker. But if I switch to BIOS menu .... It constantly makes a buzzing sound and it's coming from left side of laptop where the speaker is located. Is it normal or a serious issue? If it's a issue what component needs to replaced... one of my old HP laptops had a noisy fan, but rather than anything serious, the fan grills were so large that debree got into it and paper got in and made an annoying racket. computer was really slow because of the bad HDD so i replaced it. computer was almost brand new.
If a fan is so dusty that it fails, there's no doubt that the machine has been running hot for an extended period of time and this often cooks the CPU thermal paste. I will thoroughly blow out the machine and will change the thermal paste EVERY TIME in this situation. No exceptions.

hey, already opened up my asus x556U laptop and cleaned the cooling fan. Tell me that is it okay for me to not tape it back again like you did with that laptop? is the cooling performance the same? i cleaned just partially because I'm in a hurry to use my device.
I had a similar issue with the fan in my old thinkpad. I was about to purchase a new fan. However, a dip of hot glue holding the center of the fan in place did. the job. It actually looked like it was glued in in the factory as well. so far no more issues with it
hi sir , i am having lenovo ideapad gaming. the sound from the fan seems good like that of macbook but while placing my ear near to the back panel i can sense some noise and when the fan is at high speed there is such no issue and when the fan spins at a moderate speed i can sense some kind of ratling vibration on the back and front panel . could you please guide me with this @Adamant IT
@Adamant It - you must be new to IT and still learning. There's a reason why there's a piece of tape on the heat pipe and the fan so all air flow goes directly through the heat pipes cooling fins. if you're going to go through all that trouble you should have added new thermal paste to the CPU especially if you suspect it was overheating the thermal compound might be compromised.
It's fine. After getting a new fan it ran through software servicing, windows updates, diagnostic scan, etc. Some laptops are very susceptible to needing new thermal paste, would definitely agree there, but most average web browser devices like these need very little to keep them happy.
@mrblackfonzie bullshit... my older laptop (much better built quality by the way... 2009) didn't have ANY "double sided tape" or whatever the fuck that is... also, it had a lid over the fan so I could remove it without having to open the rest of the laptop, 2 screws did the job, no hassle... your pathetic excuses won't cut it... shitty quality nowadays
It makes basically zero difference, the fin stacks on heatsinks like these are so small that having a little air hit the back of the heatpipe is probably going to be just as effective anyway. Certainly no harm in it though.
@@Adamant_IT I'm sure you're more than correct for this laptop specifically but my Asus laptop had quite the gap between the stock fan and heatsink. So much so that the recommended fix was aluminium tape to help the airflow go through and not disperse. Made a 2-3°C difference, very noticeable when you're barely under thermal throttle on some of these smaller form factor laptops. So for anyone else reading this, it's not a 1 size fits all solution to skip the tape. Cheers.
Yea, bigger laptops are a different case, I'll agree with you on that point. The vast majority of repair jobs I see are typically low-voltage CPUs where these kinds of optimisations make zero difference - so some discretion required then!
Good stuff tape not necessary but you should have changed the thermal paste and i tell you why thermal paste has a shelf life. The fact that the fan had issues most likely The CPU/GPU or APU would have kept the paste at an above rated temperature and you would most likely find the paste crumbly therefore not transfer heat efficiency as it should anyway great video mate from Perth WA
That vibration is what my fan does... but sometimes when i turn it off, unplug everything and turn it on on my lap it works fine.. also when the fan wors at slower speeds it does that too
First time I opened any laptop was my only laptop ever and it was for fan noise. I opened and put mineral oil in fan to stop the noise created by dying out of its own oil. Which also was causing overheating obviously. I used that Dell vostro 500 over 5 years and most of its life it was always on. And it is still can work but I dont use it anymore.

I have a Dell laptop and noticed every 15 minutes, the fan kicks in for about 4 to 5 seconds and everything freezes on my laptop of that same 4 to 5 seconds. Is it time time for a replacement? Thanks in advance for any input given.
Everybody in the comments is like "BENT HEAT PIPE" and "YOU FORGOT THE TAPE"
Meanwhile I'm here like the chip is configured at 15w, maybe 25w and both of these things really wouldn't be an issue.
Well I have the exact laptop, this thing will run hot, even only with 15W. Replacing paste dropped temps ~20c.
@@Tsiikki that seems like a huge gap for just replacing thermal paste. Are you sure it was making proper contact with the copper pipe before?
My laptop is making a buzzing sound how do do I fix it
Do we loss the data while changing the fan
My fan was wobbling around. I took it apart, squeezed it together and gave it some hits. Put my laptop back together and it works again like a charm. Is this what’s called ‘hardware-repair’?
so when it sound like dirtbike its just running on high speed?
oh whats happend 😅
you bend the heatpipe by mistake and forgot the tape 🙈✌🏻
I opened the lid of the laptop and cleaned it of dust, but another minute and the sound of the mixer came back
i came here for a solution but as soon as i put in my headphone jack the noise stopped
While editing, my ancient(relatively speaking) i5-2500k stock fan does get a bit loud. Weird thing is, I LIKE IT! It sort of adds to the atmosphere, you know. Am I the only one here?
i5-2400 here. Runs butter/smooth
the problem is that a fan running constantly on max speed will eventually die sooner than intended, it reduces lifespan, it starts to "dry out", after all it's mechanical parts and with touch they generate heat and dry up over time... my core2duo laptop lasted some 6 years until the fan died, and another 4 extra years after that with no fan at all... it was a sad day when I shut it down for the last time and put in a box
that thing was a beast
Is it safe to use if the fan makes the same noise as the 1st one
I got a new laptop a month ago, and now when I start the laptop there's a buzzing noise for 2-3 sec from left side of speaker.
But if I switch to BIOS menu .... It constantly makes a buzzing sound and it's coming from left side of laptop where the speaker is located. Is it normal or a serious issue?
If it's a issue what component needs to replaced... Please reply
one of my old HP laptops had a noisy fan, but rather than anything serious, the fan grills were so large that debree got into it and paper got in and made an annoying racket.
computer was really slow because of the bad HDD so i replaced it.
computer was almost brand new.
Get your grammar correct
It's spelt debris
If a fan is so dusty that it fails, there's no doubt that the machine has been running hot for an extended period of time and this often cooks the CPU thermal paste. I will thoroughly blow out the machine and will change the thermal paste EVERY TIME in this situation. No exceptions.
thank you for this great video, ive been trying to determine if my fans been to be replaced or just cleaned since i apparantly can't pay someone to do the job honestly, oh well, i guess it wouldn't hurt to just do it myself , probably cheaper anyways
Did you redo the thermal paste?
Hello! I bought brand new acer swift 5. And it's making this buzzing sound. It's not loud, but it's annoying. Or is it normal?
Hey can you please make a video on how to remove the fan wobble? I don't want to replace the fan
hi there I have brand new acer swift 3 2020 model ,with a similar issue but not caused by the fan .I hear static noise coming from the air vents even when the fan is turned off .like electric crackling noise ,can you pls explain why this is happening.
Hello, I would like your help. Where I could get Acer sf314-55 cooling fan? Because I have same issue.
EVERYTHING. I needed
Can u help me .... How do we figure out which fan to buy ..??
After replacing with new fan, still getting more noise so wt is the solution?
My laptop same issue I need solutions and which fan I need to buy tell me
I've got a HP Split X2 with a noisy fan. I'll be ordering from Ali Express as it's not available on eBay and Amazon is out of stock. Fingers crossed.
Do you have to put the tape back? Pls respond ASAP if u can
My laptop fan make loud noise when i move it like picking up adjusting position or any kind of movement. Whats causing it and whats solution? It often show fan error when i turn on. Its lenovo thinkpad x1 carbon
Thank You very much,
My laptop has the same issue which also causes it to overheat alot and now I know what the issue is :)
Dude my laptop makes a worse noise, man I dont know if it's my fan or a car alarm inside, please help me, I've cleaned the fan and verything but still get this annoying sound that only fix sometimes when I slap the back of the laptop, right where the fan is but still will be SO DAMN LOUD EVERYTIME I'm crying
hey, already opened up my asus x556U laptop and cleaned the cooling fan. Tell me that is it okay for me to not tape it back again like you did with that laptop? is the cooling performance the same? i cleaned just partially because I'm in a hurry to use my device.
Is it like a bad for the labtop or is it just the sound?
2009) didn't have ANY "double sided tape" or whatever the fuck that is...
also, it had a lid over the fan so I could remove it without having to open the rest of the laptop, 2 screws did the job, no hassle... your pathetic excuses won't cut it... shitty quality nowadays
tape the fan back to the heatsin
Cheers.
I'm no expert but surely the tape help with airflow?
Yea, bigger laptops are a different case, I'll agree with you on that point. The vast majority of repair jobs I see are typically low-voltage CPUs where these kinds of optimisations make zero difference - so some discretion required then!
Good stuff tape not necessary but you should have changed the thermal paste and i tell you why thermal paste has a shelf life. The fact that the fan had issues most likely The CPU/GPU or APU would have kept the paste at an above rated temperature and you would most likely find the paste crumbly therefore not transfer heat efficiency as it should anyway great video mate from Perth WA
That vibration is what my fan does... but sometimes when i turn it off, unplug everything and turn it on on my lap it works fine.. also when the fan wors at slower speeds it does that too
"There's the cheap ones from China that's more like it!" LOOOOOOOOOOL
Which program are you using to reduce the fan noise that much in your recording?
I record in OBS Studio, and that's the noise-reduction filter that comes with it.
@@Adamant_IT Great! Thank you! It works so well!
Could you let us know if you'll need a new tape to attach the new fan properly or it's not necessary? Thanks
That's more of a Motorbike sound. Mine sounds like a Lamborghini.
How to take our f8 screw? any advice?
First time I opened any laptop was my only laptop ever and it was for fan noise. I opened and put mineral oil in fan to stop the noise created by dying out of its own oil. Which also was causing overheating obviously. I used that Dell vostro 500 over 5 years and most of its life it was always on. And it is still can work but I dont use it anymore.
you should have re-taped that fan... You fixed it, but reduced performance by not re-taping.
Is it still safe to use when the fan is bonked?
New fan. It's optimal. Imagine what the client would say if a few days later they hear that noise again? Greetings.
if I hve 5V 0.29A cooling fan can I purchase a Higher amperage like 0.55A??
Didn't tape the fan back down?
hello sir, my Acer laptop fan makes sound also but it is not too loud...is it normal? it sound zz zz zz......something like that
Thanks so much my screws were tiny so I had to get a glasses fixing kit for a small screwdriver
