  • The question about printing on fabric has come up a few times and our answer until this video was... "Oh yes, we plan on trying that at some point." Well now we have done it and we are here to say it won't be the last. The process of printing onto shirts using the gel plate after a bit of trial and error is quite easy and extremely FUN! Join us as we in real-time talk through a number of prints. Some prints or layers of paint from the paint yielded multiple shirts!
    As always thank you for stopping by and if you have found inspiration with this project (or any of our others) please like this video, subscribe to our channel, and ring the bell so we can be on our creative journey together!

    T-shirts came out beautiful. Thanks for showing us how to do this.
    I think this would be good to do on t-shirts that's have spots on front, where you spilled!!! Ones you otherwise couldn't wear anymore!!! It would cover up the stains!!!
    Also, would make a beautiful pillow!!!

    A couple of questions…how do you wash the shirts and did the paint soak through the first layer of fabric onto the back of the shirt?

    • @PMartistStudio
      @PMartistStudio  Рік тому +1

      Thank you so much, it take some editing and we really appreciate you watching. Regular washing in cold and light dry with them inside out. The paint didn't soak through, but I think that would depend on the weight of the shirt material. Something to keep in mind. Also pre-washing shirts so there isn't any sizing/starch on them... that does create a barrier from the paint fully adhering to the material.

      Thank you so much. Yes we did use regular acrylic paints and they are holding up quite well. Many of the shirts are for my daughter and like most kids require washing often. There are fabric mediums you can mix with acrylic paints keep in mind we found they can make the paint more fluid. More fluid isn’t ideal for this technique so we don’t use it

    • @PMartistStudio
      @PMartistStudio  3 місяці тому +1

      As long as you pre wash the fabric the paint will stay with or with the fabric medium. The main thing it does is makes it more fluid and softer when dried

    So you can wash these shirts with no issues? How long do you wait before you’re able to wash them?

    • @PMartistStudio
      @PMartistStudio  7 місяців тому

      The main thing you want to do is prewash any shirts that are new. If they have any sizing or starchlike fixitive on the shirt the paint will not adhere properly. Cotton works the best and once the paint is dry within about 24hours to be safe you can wash it again. If you want to put in the drying for a quick heat set you can do that once the paint is dry to the touch.

    Hi P&M! I think these are great! I want to do this on canvas tote bags and I assume the process would be the same even though the canvas is a heavier material? Also, unless I missed it, did you say what type of paint you used? Was it fabric paint and if not, did you add a fabric additive? Or what do you do to make sure the shirt is washable, not too stiff, etc.? Thank you! P.S. I just put in a big order from you for stencils! I am excited to use them! - Vonalda

    • @PMartistStudio
      @PMartistStudio  2 роки тому

      Hello Vonalda, Thank you so much. We have done canvas tote bags for our last big giveaway. They were a little different in their absorbency of the paint. We did not use any fabric medium or special fabric paint. The layers weren't overly heavy and we didn't have an issue with it being stiff. That being said you can add those media to your paint, just keep in mind you don't want it runny. That was one reason we decided to just work with the paints P does on a regular basis and see how it goes. I have washed some of the shirts a few times and they seem to be holding up pretty nice. I have not put them in the dryer as I didn't want them sticking once they heated up, just a thought on that. Your order should be going out tomorrow and we are equally excited to see what you create!

      If it is a brand new shirt wash before printing it. Once printed run through the dryer inside out to really set the paint. My daughter is still wearing these shirts and wear is minimal pretty much like a commercially printed shirt.

    • @PMartistStudio
      @PMartistStudio  Рік тому

      Yes or putting in the dryer for a bit. Wash before it does make a difference overall. We have done it both ways but depending on how the manufacturer some really need washing

  • @alliehunter9896

    What paints used? Acrylic or fabric paint?

    • @PMartistStudio
      @PMartistStudio  Рік тому +3

      Many fabric paints are acrylic based and they make additives to soften the paint. We found the additives make the paint more fluid which for this technique didn't work for us. The main thing you will want to do is make sure all your fabric is washed before applying any type of paint. The shirts we have done are still holding up except for one new shirt we didn't wash before printing and it didn't hold up to washing as well.
