Thank you!! It’s the crazy part of my brain that has most of my imagination. It was super fun and who doesn’t love that! Thanks for your comment, Bobby! You made my day! 😊
just fabulous !! ..Thankyou I must try this and as you say the acrylic should be ok because I have acrylic on most of my clothes (by mistake ) 😁and they wash just fine ! thankyou for the idea 🥰
@@barbarabeckmannart4058 But I'm so glad you did this video ! and I'm excited now to deliberately put paint on my clothes 😁😂That tee you did is awesome !! 🥰
I tried tee shirt painting back in 2003 and after cutting my own stencils of a portrait and words, I tried the Acrylic fabric paint, plain Acrylic paints, but was unhappy with the crusty texture. So I thought like you! Once you get paint on fabric, it never comes off so why not try some Krylon spray paint from the hardware store? It worked great, and after washing no problem and no crusty feel! Do it outside though and let dry between layers as it is oil based. Great video! Like the music too. 😉
My shirt washed perfectly the first time. However, I have washed it several times now and the acrylic paint did flake off on the face where I did not use any textile medium. But I LOVE IT!! EVEN MORE! It's exactly as I had visioned it in my head. The face looks a little distressed now and it still looks like me. Its colorful! It's awesome art shirt for my business. The textile medium really works too!!!! It makes the fabric softer. The areas they don't have the textile medium are stiffer. They are getting softer with each washing but there is a HUGUE difference. I would highly recomend using textile medium and I am very happy with the Folk Art brand that I used. Please email BarbaraBeckmannArt@gmail.com if you have ANY questions. I will be more then happy to answer any questions you many have. Happy Painting!! Barbara
This isa fantastic video Barbara, very informative. The likeness is very good and the shirt a beautiful piece of art.Thank you for the inspiration to work with fabric.
Wow I love your shirt. You made a statement. Thanks so much for sharing this.I have been gelli plate printing on fabric for years for use in my art quilts. I think the purpose of the textile medium is to change the hand of the fabric, by pulling the pigment down into the fabric. For t-shirts like this, not needed. I really enjoyed your video
You have a great point there about the textile medium. That makes total sense. I made another shirt using the textile medium on every inch I painted on. I think its a lot softer then the one I made here without it. The one in this video had a few sections of paint that flaked off after many washings. I think mostly in areas where I had a heavy hand when applying the paint. Thank you for watching my video. It was so much fun! I appreciate your comment too! Thank you!.
Hi Joy! I’m just stumbling upon messages here that people left for me two years ago! I just came across your comment about my Gelli printed t shirt. I agree with you about the textile medium and why it’s needed and when it’s not. A little learning curve but I had two years to practice since you left your comment! LOL thanks so much! This made me smile today! 😊
WOW !!!!!! Love , Love , Love what you have achieved !!!! Beautiful t-shirt !!! Really enjoyed your process too - extremely informative and easy to understand . Thank you Barbara. Kind regards from Judi - Australia
Thank you!! The shirt has been washed a hundred times now. Super soft and all the paint stayed on. It was super fun to make too. Thanks for your comment. I really appreciate it.
Awesome Barbara! :) I'm glad you decided to take the cardboard out, that would have driven me crazy even though I understand why it's used. Hey I made a lot of painted shirts in the 90s. But this by far is the best I've seen :)
my art teacher in Florida ,paints shirts. She said as long as you don't use dryer sheets ,they are permanent with acrylic paint .enjoy your demos Thank you 🎨🖍🌲🌲🌲🇨🇦🚗🌴🐲🌵🇺🇸✏️🖋🌴🌴
Hi Heather! I never use dryer sheets. I use to until someone said they heard they cause cancer. Now that’s stuck in my head. My shirts have held up pretty well. I think the textile medium does make them much softer. But you are right, the regular acrylic paint without anything mixed into it stays on too. Thanks for your comment. I appreciate it so much.
Tired out awesome! Well done. I agree on the fabric textile goo. Yuk and I finally did it differently by painting on the textile treatment...let it dry.. Like a gesso on canvas.. Then paint on that spot like say a mandala. But like you I found even in airbrushing acrylic AIN'T GOIN' NOWHERE! LOL XO ONNA
OMG I laughed so hard at that! I didn't have time to sort the socks, the utensils, the laundry... and so much more! If someone complained, well, you know the answer! I'm now a grandma of 11 grandchildren and I sort EVERYTHING! Go figure...
I found whenever I get acrylic paint on my clothes and don’t wash it off it’s there forever. I have also learned that using textile medium really just makes the fabric softer and I like that. The shirt that I made without it has been washed a million times and the paint is still there. Overall, I like the textile medium and the acrylic paint mixed together. I suggest using it.
Sadly for me I have since downsized even more and switched to a smaller room. My old studio was 40 ft X 18 ft. My new studio is half of that. I am definitely an art hoarder and I have way to much stuff. Sigh.....
Wow, so talented!
I love that t-shirt!!!!🙂☀️❤
excellent work. Very imaginative and creative.

Oh this is awesome. I am gonna do this. I have thought that I wanted a shirt made for my art business but this is so much better. Love it!
Execellent, loved it
Hi. You can also iron a sheet of Freezer Paper to the inside of the T-shirt to stabilize it. Just peel it off when the paint is dry.
Hi Kurt!
That's a great tip! The cardboard insert was a royal pain. Thanks for letting me know.

Thank you Sandy! I guess part of me is stuck in a time warp. That cardboard mads me crazy! You're right!

I guess if u dont use textile medium make sure the acrylic is at least water resistant

Looks like you have the same problem I have. Not enough space!!

I forgot to add, I love your shirts! You wouldn't want to see my crafting area.
I sew and also just got into gelli printing and junk journals. Like I don't already have enough stuff.
