anyone watching this in 2018??
This video sure brings back a lot of memories. Can't believe it's been over a month already.
No
*Rolls Eyes*
Moose you know it
Yea lol been a while since I've seen one of these
Moose me and I can't get ours to work 😣😣😣
I grew up with the original Xbox. So many memories of playing Halo CE and Halo 2, along with JSRF and Morrowind. One of my favorite systems ever.
Fun fact: Half-Life 2 was released on the original XBox. That's testament to just how much power this console had considering it was released in 2001.
ThEcRaZ3dGaM3R ThEcRaZ3dGaM3R yes! I had it on my modded one. It dropped a couple frames during heavy fire fights, and you better have a modded xbox to run the game off the hdd or else serious load times. I remember when i got my 360 i replayed it on the orange box and it was smooth as glass.
Hlaf-Life 3 also runs decent, you have to us the video options to turn down vsync but other than that, great!
Just imagine if the retail version of the Xbox had the 128mb of ram that the Development Kits came standard with...
The game would have run even better and widescreen would probably be possible in a lot of other games...
It's kind of a bummer, but the PS2 didn't have the CPU power to be able to handle all the physics in the game. Maybe if you used the original HL physics system you'd increase the FPS and reduce the stuttering you'd encounter but then you're taking away the most important element of HL2 which separated it from every other game of its time. that awesome physics engine!!
I bought a used xbox to play it cuz i couldn't afford a pc to run it at the time. was a terrific game, amazing port considering the xbox only had 64mb or ram!
I don't know if you'll ever see this MVG but thank you so much for this video. I watched it in early December and since then i've purchased a used Xbox and Hard-modded it and installed a 480GB SATA SSD. Also did a bunch of custom lighting and paint. People have done this before but I just wanted to thank you for making a video that showed me how possible this was and removing the mystery behind the Modded Xbox that bewildered me as a kid. You rock.
@Ezera 3Tb for a 2001 game lmao dude sorry but ur dumb older games don't even reach to 500mb
@@faruktta3151 a fool and his money are easily parted.
@Ezerascrubs, mine has 8GB and still has the capacitor that might start leaking.
I did get mine for 15 with 3 games though so I think I probably got the best deal here.
Can you tell me how to make the modifications for my classic xbox please and what items you used.
San Andreas is my ring tone and I thought my phone was glitching and I was getting a call
It's my ringtone also lol
Mr. Rex crazy stuff
Ladies and gentlemen....the real xbox one
Mark Zola81 the real one
The Real XBox One X :P
I bet the most kids today don't remember the original xbox.....SO THIS IS THE REAL XBox 1 guys
Daniel Hummel I do I'm 27
+Daniel Hummel agreed and Im 24.
Great video thanks for taking us through that. A very early hack I used back in the day was the "Bert and Ernie" font hack and a replacement DVD drive which allowed me to launch backup copies. My setup was a tiny 14" CRT in the corner of my room. I held the 2nd fastest record in the world for a London track on Project Gotham on that tiny TV but could never crack 1st place! Really good memories. JSRF still looks and sounds great in your video.
JSRF is a classic. PGR is a great game too but i was more into Rallisport Challenge 2 back then : ) Awesome that you had that record , i dont think i ever cracked top 10 in any leaderboard in any game ever ;)
RetroManCave m
Be great if there was away to replace the DVD Xbox drive with bluray not to play new games but to watch movies lol but hey this mods great sounding I wish this guy was local I'd go to him and ask him to do it since he's got a video showing us how I'm sure he would do it for a small fee
Modern Vintage Gamer how come i had all these. Jeez. I was 7 and bloody picked the best games at random. Lol
The max resolution that the xbox has would not do the blue ray drive justice. You would need a different console that can support a higher resolution. The max that board can do is 1080i Where blue ray movies can do up to 2160p You wouldnt be doing your movie justice. Not to mention blue ray players are cheap now. for like 80 bucks you can get a 4k blue ray player for your tv.
I agree with MVG about the Duke controller. It’s not as bad as people say. It’s actually very comfortable for a guy with big hands like me.
The button layout was also a bit more ergonomic too.
The dpad looks dreadful though
wales2k yea ok President Trump
Even when I was 12 I was fine with it. Still think it's the best
wales2k Compatible xbox games the first xbox the first series go on the playstion 3
I remember softmodding my xbox back in the day. Its what turned me into a geek :)
I remember getting a 007 AUF gamesave hack and the UI was all in french. I was determined and I studied the words carefully and chose what I thought were the correct options and ended up with a modded xbox. It was my dads xbox. I convinced my parents that they really need to buy me an xbox too. They bought it for me and I immediately bricked it (stupidly formatted the C drive) and after months of determination I learned how to hotswap the HDD and use XboxHDM and an old PC to fix it using the backup of my dads C drive.
Very fond of those times. It shaped me to become a huge nerd lol
Robot voice* My brain has malfunctioned. Lol
Damn i woulda thrown in the towel if I bricked a console back then.
I miss the Xbox remember playing Fable 1 like crazy amount of hours playing this game.
Crack Bandicoot being evil is fun. Try the lost chapters version for another playthrough
Fable 1 has to be one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played
Nice name
Your video randomly came up on my feed, and as someone who modded probably hundreds of original xbox's back in the day, I felt compelled to give it a watch. Great video, but I really want to comment just to say thanks for making all those great homebrew emulators back in the day. To this day I use Surreal64 on my original Xbox, and have had tons of fun late nights with my friends playing roms on there. It's cool to finally have a face to match to the emulators I've been using for over 10 years. I totally agree with you that the original xbox is the perfect emulation machine, and I still tell people that when they insist on buying something like an NES classic. So once again thank you for everything you did with the original xbox scene!
Jay Merritt I came to the comments to say nearly the exact same thing! I never heard of this channel before but this video was suggested and after he said he made those emulators that I still use 10 years later I instantly subbed. I still have a hard and soft modded Xbox on standby so I can play them at a moment's notice!
I agree with everything you have said. The only thing I don't like is the xbox controllers. Is there anyway I can play with an snes controller on the original xbox?
If u softmod the Xbox, can u still install emulators??? I have everything to softmod my Xbox. Biosflashing seem a little too complex for me, is it really necessary?
I had the good fortune to stumble on a modded Xbox back in the day. It’s been a lot of fun ever since and I still boot it up when I have time. The emulators are great and quite functional. And introducing my daughter and her friends to classic games, whether Xbox titles, console emulators or MAME, is icing on the cake. Thanks for good work! :)
Edgar Aristondo From my knowledge, the BIOS flash was only done so that he could add the new drive. However, you may want to do some more research just to be sure.
i just picked up an Xbox for 7 dollars with a duke controller and Halo 2... seems like i got a great deal haha
Found mine for $15 and I already had halo 2 and opened the disc drive and it had starwars battlefront in it.
@@keenanwengert423 score
Is the little battery corroded though?
@@keenanwengert423 lol, at least that is a pretty good game
Just found one the other day for $5 with crimson skies in it
Still buying games and completing games on this beauty. And using my Duke on occasion.
Great vid. Cheers and thanks!

Indeed it's 🙄

This and the Dreamcast, were the Best consoles ever made for their time way ahead of their competition.
GameCube as well
Dreamcast & PlayStation 2 >>>>>> Xbox & Game Cube *Games Wise* imo
I don't care about tech specs
Dreamcast was the prototype for the xbox, or think of it this way xbox = dreamcast 2 | xbox 360 = dreamcast 3 | xbox one/x = dreamcast 4/4.5, the clue was is in the controller. yes ps2 and gc/wii was great too, shame about ps3/wii u onwards, while sony still go same direction, nintendo just lost the plot
Dreamcast was and is still one of, if not still is the best console ever, the gamecube will always have a special place in my heart as well and now that I have an X-Box it has quickly replaced my PS2, a console I barely ever touched even back in the day =-P
Completely agree. My two favorite consoles ever.
I have been modding these consoles since 2005. I had no idea you where behind this. Thanks for the memories man.
cool, i recognized most of these emulators from over nearly 15 years ago when i first modded my xbox. especially remember surreal so its really neat to hear from the creator. thank you!!
You sir have served this community very well, thanks for all you've done, and the great inspiration to push my SBCs to the side and look for an original xbox. Subbed!
FUCKING FINALLY! Somebody else who likes the original Xbox's first controller!
The Author same
The Author only Sony fanboys found the excuses to bash on the original Xbox because of the size of the controller.
For relatively big hand i can see why one would like the original. However for my hands i prefer the smaller S version
Same!!! I need the new one when I get the One and for my og all my controllers kill my hands
I always used the small version of it so this wasn’t an excuse to bash on the console. Since the first time I played Xbox, I became a big fan of it and I will never regret to supporting Microsoft. OG Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox one. All in the same room 😁
im the OP for that article you used in the video. THANK YOU FOR THE SHOUTOUT!!!!
I used mine as a dvd-player in my bedroom, with matching 14" old tv.
Thumbed up for the San Andreas loading music

Jet Set Radio Future...the memories...
Unfortunately only Jet Set Radio is for sale and not Jet set Radio Future
I have the jsrf/sega gt combo disc as well as original case
Jet set radio future needs a remake or remaster, it was so good and they only remaster the original, not the future
U can get that on Xbox one :D
Orestis Papadopoulos The good old days
Man I still got my XBOX Crystal Edition. I remember playing NFS UG2 and GUN for hours on that see-through thing.
Gun is one of the best games ever
Still have mine and use it occasionally. It is truly a beast that will never die!
For 15 years i have been trying to remember a game from my childhood and no one could help me figure it out. I randomly watch this video and there it is the neo geo viewpoint!! Thank you !!you just don't understand how long i have been looking for this game.
Usama Shah umm no
dinojdub28 what game ?
Extremely informative video. I have collected several original xbox's at the $50 price point over the last 2 years or so and I will be sure to follow these steps to achieve similar levels of usability. Just earned another sub!
I’m rewatching this and dang MVG!! You’ve improved your sound game massively. Not that this is bad, it’s just your current audio quality is incredibly better.
original xbox is so underrated
Psycho Surfer so true
blast2fire ™ hopefully there is the ability to add dreamcast emulator and PS2 emulator and you could pretty much relive your entire past on the machine that was most superior in comparison.
It hade 4 player halo right? Same has the great 360 right but Xbox one is like no we can't handle that just buy 4 xboxs and 300 dollars of Xbox and your good for 3 months fam
Gary Stinten in power the Xbox was better than the ps2, but the ps2 was the better console mainly because it had the better games. And it’s been like that since.
god damn your videos are clean, easy to understand, you audio is awesome, and you are very knowledgeable. Subbing for sure
Preach!!!
yeah !
When you flash it, you can no longer play games on it. It is funny how they used windows me on this thing, when it wasn't really just a pc. Also when the hard drive is unlocked, you find xbe files. These are compiled in c+ by windows which is also software code. You can run them on any pc if you want.
Surreal64 was honestly one of the biggest parts of my childhood! My dad gave me his old modded Xbox and without it, I’d never get to experience the N64 during my childhood and it’s amazing games, thanks for your work mate it made my childhood :))
I was deployed back in 2005 when I had my original xbox modded. thanks for being a part of my deployment!
Recently found your channel and what can I say, the content is very clear and immersive. I'm happy to subscribe! :) take care
Correction: at 11:19 its SmileBit , not SlimeBit
You worked on Surreal64? :o
I have a new found respect for you.
Sorry for my mild rant on your Framemeister vs OSSC vid. hehe
I do like the Xbox as well, but I've been neglecting it lately.
I have a 250GB HDD in both of my Xboxes, but I believe my older box no longer boots, as the Supercap is dead. I don't think it was leaking too badly, but I need to fix that soon.
I think you might be able to "lock" most CF cards in the same way as an HDD btw?
Also, I'm not sure, but I think some soft mods might even allow it to boot with the HDD unlocked? Maybe not though, as I can see how the stock BIOS will be expecting it to be locked with the key that matches the serial etc.
My very first Xbox mods were the TSOP Flash version.
(two solder points, then flash with EvoX.)
Since then, I've just used the soft mod (font mod), by using the 007:AUF exploit.
I loaded CoinOps 7 onto the working box recently, but still not really played on it as much as I should.
I was thinking of doing a proper HDMI mod on the OG Xbox for a long while now, but it would seem a bit like putting a newer graphics card into a vintage PC. lol
I guess it would still be cool though, and ideal for streaming.
yes i did i ported Surreal64, U64x (killer instinct emu), xSnes9x, FBA-X and many more..went by Lantus-X back in those days..cheers!
what version of surreal 64 do you have, and what team are you talking about?
Slime... nasty. ☺
Earned a sub!
Loved the video. It's a testament to how great the console still holds up in terms of emulation capabilities. I unfortunately never go to dabble much into emulation because I was limited by the 8GB hdd. I liked running my DVD games from the HDD so I didn't have any emulators installed on the HDD due to the lack of space
What a fun trip down memory lane! Awesome work on the emulators. Think I need to bust mine out the cupboard for a replay sesh!
Very cool vid. I knew the Xbox was a good emulation machine, but I didn't know it was THAT good. Looks like it has more power than a Pi, and potentially less input lag too. And you got the console library itself to booth.
It is just an awesome console. Actually got me into HD gaming when it wasn't even a thing. (Bought my first 1080i compatible projector just because of it even so only a couple of games supported it and i had to solder my own hd pack cause it wasn't available here). Just recently replaced the BGA package for me and a friend on two modded one's with the 1.4ghz Tualatin for some extra oomph. Great video as usual!!! Keep up the great work.
The CPU can be upgraded?! Very interesting... but I'd have to send the board off somewhere to have that done. There's nobody anywhere near here with that kind of equipment.
Yes, it can be upgraded to the 1,4ghz PIII. That was the maximum that is/was available as a replacement for the Celeron BGA Package that was soldered in. Basically anybody who owns a BGA Soldering Station could probably do it. Beside that i did upgrade the RAM as well cause most revisions of the OG Xbox have the motherboard layout of the dev kit just missing the Ram Chips. You can patch the games than so the use extra Ram.
hey man some of the links are dead but seriously thank you for making these videos. I've always loved the xbox, but its like im falling in love all over again!
dude I have used all of these emulators. You're a legend!
For PAL users, soft modding will also unlock the ability to get proper HD using COMPONENT cables.
And anyone who does this *has* to check out Streets of Rage Remake. It's a semi-commercial home brew that was nixed on release by Sega, but is very easy to find online and is absolutely fantastic.
Oh, and OG XBox games are so cheap at the moment (although starting to climb) so it's the perfect time to start collecting before it gets too crazy.
yep totally agree!
It was a while ago that I did it, but I dont remember there being any tricks to it. Just FTP across the XBox-specific port of SoRR. www.theisozone.com/downloads/xbox/homebrew-games/xstreets-of-rage-remake-v5-final-homebrew-port-for-xbox/
Agreed. I usually play SoRR on PC, but Xbox is way more convenient for multiplayer.
Was just dusting off my old modchipped Xbox (i’ll need to wait a while as both my gamepads, one original and one 3rd party or the cables seems to be dead) i used it mostly as a Media Centre with XBMC, with my music library on the 2TB (or maybe it was 1TB) drive and movies streaming from my Mac. I also streamed radio, video services like UA-cam and others until HD movie playback became choppy (sure, with some encoding wizardry, you could make it stream without frames dropping out, switched to WD TV Live Media Player Gen 3, wich had some of the hackery and homebrew magic from the Xbox hacking/mod/homebrew community (now Apple TV gen 3).
Also had all the emulators (most used was the Nintendo and Sega emulators alongside MAME for all the Street Fighter titles alongside Darkstalker aka Vampire Saviour and crossover fighting games like Marvel vs Capcom and similar).
The original Xbox games, wich was (even then), and is now (at least in Sweden) dirt cheap on the second hand market, was saved to the internal drive.
Favourites: Jade Empire, Halo (1 & 2), Fable, Star Wars Battlefront II, Star Wars Knight of the Old Republic, Star Wars Revenge of The Sith, The GTA games, Dead or Alive 3, Max Payne, Harry Potter, Blazing Angels: Sqaudron of WWII (looks almost the same as the 360 version!), FIFA titles & PES, the Mortal Kombat titles (crappy game mechanics, but fun!), the later Need for Speed titles, Spartan: Total Warrior (button smasher!), SSX (3, On Tour, Tricky. Great design that still holds, crazy fun snowboard physics), Top Spin (Tennis)…
Except you could have most of the games installed on the drive, you could use trainers as well. Now, trainers isn’t for just cheats, but also unlocking features or other stuff that is disabled for different reasons. But yeah, i’ll admit. It’s fun to play some titles in “god mode” to find new things, or to conquer some bug or really hard part (when you tried for months to pass a boss, you take actions of the cheating kind). Game saves!
I have it connected to my 42” LCD TV, running XBMC on 720p/1080i (some games, very few, runs in 720p/1080i) using component cables.
Now, as soon my new game pads is here (i which i could use my PS3/PS4 or PC USB game pads while waiting), i will fill up the drive with emulators again and my favourite original titles.
Is Slayers EvoX (ISO) still the way to go to install all the toys?
Nice Commodore monitor!
Love those things!
Found ur channel by accident a while ago and never knew u were the guy that made owning my og xbox the best gaming generation ive ever experienced. Thank you brother

GoodGuyGaurav jsrf is the best. I hope it gets a remaster or reboot one day.
I love my 500GB original Xbox it's got all the retro, arcade games that I need.
retrostansolo its nice, but the composite video kills it.
Kolgrim1988 Mine looks great because I have the HD mod. I have the Microsoft official HD box and it looks amazing. 720p/1080i
Yep, I love my modded Xbox also (also 500GB HDD). I still need to track down the official component box. I have third-party component cables, but I want official.
Rig it's about time there was a hdmi mod for the Xbox just like the one on N64, how cool would that be.
I use my awesome flat screen samsung CRT to play all games up to xbox. I will never change it, the saddest day of my life will be the day it dies :(. The difference of playing on a CRT vs on a LCD/LED panel is astonishingly different, I just simply can't go to a new screen to play the old stuff.
Assuming you haven't already done so, I strongly recommend you replace or remove the clock backup cap - if you look at 8:11 in the video, you can see the corrosion on the 3 ceramic caps just below it, so it's clearly already leaking (this is the right bottom corner of the board just above the inductor your fingers are next to). The electrolyte in those Cooper Aerogel caps is highly corrosive, and given enough time will etch the traces on the board away completely.
I bought another Xbox again a few days ago. Your videos and tutorials help me a lot. Thank you very much. Now I'm waiting for hardware to softmode it. :)
Great video =D I had planned to cover exactly these things at some point, but seems a bit pointless now lol. That's the way YT works I guess :o) The XBOX is a great system! Recently flashed one of mine using the jumpers there. You can also 'hot swap' drives btw to get around the key locking issue. ie. boot from original disk, unplug the HDD, connect another HDD and you can read from it without reset etc. Also worth noting that some older drives didn't support the locking (I think), and even some of the newer drives of that era didn't support it either. That was one reason the Western Digital drives were popular for modding these at that time.
Thanks for the tip Gadget! I still have several original xbox consoles laying around, and one has a failing drive. I was wondering how I was going to replace it without going through hoops and bounds.
So what does one need to do to do this? I want to use a 250GB drive. Does the drive need to be prepped first?
jim b
What do you mean by exploited game?
jim b
Ok, thanks. So developers made these games to mod the console? Or its just a coincidence?
jim b
Damn you guys know your shit.. I just play the games and would have never noticed the difference in loading games lol. But this looked interesting. Thanks for the info, but it sounded like some rocket science shit. lol. Keep doing your thing man
Timesplitters 2 bring back greatest memory of the past
My neighbor got me an original xbox as an early birthday gift. I'm definitely gonna be doing these mods when I get the chance.
I bought an xbox at the flea market for $ 3, I had to change the hard drive and now it is a machine with 1tb of storage full of games and emulators, my nephews love it.
Still have mine - modded and everything! The Xbox is easily my favorite console of all time, other than the Dreamcast of course.
Red Faction 2... Game was all we played for years.
Jason Jennings wow u just struck a cord. Never played RF2 but I fuckn lived Red Faction Guerilla.
Original Xbox live was an absolute beast. Waiting 10 sec for a full 16 player game on Halo 2 was unrivaled. Honestly, it was easier to game online with the Xbox than the damn pc. Still playing my modded halo edition Xbox to this day. Great vid!
this channel is sooo underated.... keep up the good work dude
I always found it funny how the Wii and Original Xbox can play DVDs without attachments if you softmod/hack them. Yet, the actual companies that made the systems in their original state made you buy an extra dongle, in the case of the Original Xbox or not let you do it at all, in the case of the Wii.
Well, at least the dongle comes with a remote control, so it is not completely useless otherwise. Would have been a shame if it was _only_ a dongle.
I may be wrong, but at least in the case of the wii, I think it had something to do with the licensing fees involved in officially supporting DVD movie playback. It would have raised the selling price of the console, and the low price was one of the wii's main selling points
I bought 2) of them: Green Halo editions softmodded with a 1TB hard drive and 40,000 games installed on each from Ebay. I'm still enjoying and Livestreaming them! :D It's all about the nostalgia!!!
Brillant!
Just got myself an Xbox just because of this video.
Thank you very much 😊
Nostalgia factor 9! I remember doing all this in high school!! Surreal64, xmbc as a dashboard, taught me about hard drive locking and FTP transfers. I did it via the hotswap method with an IDE windows computer but achieved the same results pretty much. 500GB IDE drive in a softmodded 1.6 console with xbmc as the default dashboard. Tons of emulators for that thing. I relived my entire childhood with that device several times. Most underrated emulation station in my opinion. Paired with logitech wireless controllers I was in heaven. You took me down memory lane my friend. Thanks for all the fond memories of n64 titles MVG. They might not know, but I do.
Respect mate. Thank you. subed
This is completely your choice whether you do this or not, but I highly recommend it. Inside the system there is something known as the "Clock Capacitor". As the name suggests, its an electrolytic capacitor that stores the date and time. In most cases, these capacitors can leak all over your motherboard and can cause fatal damage. Removing the capacitor won't break your Xbox, it will just no longer store the date and time. As far as i'm aware, you can get kits that allow you to solder coin battery holders to where the capacitor used to be so you can store the D&T if you want to.
Excellent video. Glad I still have my XBOX, going to get it out from storage. You just inspired me. Thanks!
Watching your Xbox videos this week and very impressed. Happy new subscriber :)
When I saw it playing an actual Sega CD disc my jaw nearly unhinged!!!!!!!!!!!!
So that's why I loved TimeSplitters 2 so much =) I loved Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, though I never noticed the similarities until you said it.
FiddleSticks It was better on the PS2. 😒
I got an original Xbox myself last Christmas. The dash was out of date and the machine info said it was produced in October/November 2002. The dash version I did have I narrowed down to being released sometime in 2003. So it had sat in a cupboard untouched for 19 years and was in fantastic shape as a result. After a deep clean it looked brand new. No scuffs on the Xbox logo on either the Duke or the console itself. I'd never really played on an Xbox before and I am really enjoying the games I do have. Not to mention playing the occasional match through Insignia which is the main reason I wanted one.
Thank you for posting this video! I have an original Xbox sitting here and I am gonna attempt to get it up and running and modify it like in this video. If I do not succeed I will have fun trying and learning something new. Have a good day.
Ty for all the coding you have done. I have utilized much of the software you listed today 😀
John Hillis He didn't code shit. All he did was make a tutorial.
CrazyRoadblock he made the emulators that he's showing so have a seat.
This guy is Lantus? Subbed.
I got a stack of old XBOXs for $20 to $25 a piece from a local game shop. Small "mom and pop" stores and flea markets are great places to find this system and others.
I softmodded one, the clock capacitor blew up on a different one, and I sold the other. I ran into trouble with getting a larger hard drive installed several months ago and just kind of quit the project. This video has renewed my zeal to complete it. Flashing the TSOP seems like the best way to go, but I've been unable to find any in-depth tutorials on soldering the two points on the board.
This video is awesome and really brings me back. My friend and I loved hacking our Xboxes back in the day. We did the same softmod and solder mod. We also got 2.4ghz wireless controllers from a third party manufacturer. We opened up the receiver dongles and wired them to the internal control connectors with a relay so you could have an integrated wireless controller or use the plugged in wired one.
Very nice video! I bought a chipped Xbox 1.6 for 20€, and it's amazing. I installed a 160gb hdd and the games load so much faster. I would suggest you to replace the 40wire ide cable that comes stock with an 80wire ide cable. It's a super cheap upgrade and allows for faster transfer rates from the hdd to thehdd controller
linoxyard or you could do that flash trick for the bios and use sdcard and even faster again.
@@garystinten9339 You can't with a 1.6 motherboard revision. Only 1.0 to 1.5 have the Bios on a TSOP chip. The 1.6 has instead a chip called "Xyclops", which contains the bios on a non flashable rom. The easy way around though is to install a modchip, like mine had. An Akira 2 SE chip in my case.
Also remove the clock compasator. It can LEAK
@@ZebulonYT. …the capacitor is fine for now on 1.6s
GREATEST. HITS. WORKS. I don't understand why so many people still say that it doesn't. Is it simply outdated info? But if it is, then it's REALLY outdated because I did a greatest hits splinter cell softmod like 5 years ago. There are even plenty of people online who say that the greatest hits version worked for them. Otherwise, great video! You've made me feel a lot better about BIOS flashing an Xbox and I can't believe I never thought of compactflash!
mad props for the variety of OG game music
I'll give it a shot and probably wrote about this one day ! Thank you very much, I really enjoyed the video :)
The GTA San-Andreas Music is still awesome in 2019 😍
Ready for an "Xbox Classic" to be released.
Youll be able to play original xbox games one the xbox one soon
Mike Clark YES
Darren Knowles any news of multiplayer?
Darren Knowles If you’re an insider, you already can play *some* original Xbox games.
I have one modded Xbox and it was your mods inside wow nice to meet you and thank you.
awesome videos man, I've had a few softmodded consoles, the Wii was my favorite but the Xbox was definitely the most powerful. I have an unmodded one laying around, I think I might have to get on making it into an emulation device
I just saved a poor Xbox from the trash a few days ago. Nothing wrong with it all all! Modded it and added it to my collection

Great video, love the og xbox still.
Just picked up a OG Xbox for £59/$65 with 12 games. I'm so excited to start modding this beauty!
I wish I still had my original acrylic water cooled xbox. I had windows 98 running on it plus emulators and an upgraded hard drive. I dont remember what size. I used to take my water cooled Xbox to lan parties. Lan parties are what people used to do to game together. A bunch of sweaty giys in a garage with a t1 connection.
JET SET RADIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
fucking love this game. so damn good
Great video. Very educational. I was about to get rid of my xbox which I had bought but hardly used. Great quality presentation. You'd make a great teacher. I'm 56 and I think videos like this get kids interested in computer tech. Keep up the great work.
I was watching that live, when xbox came out. Man that was some serious nostalgia.
Nice video. Wii and Wii U are great too for emulating 8-bit, 16-bit, 24-bit machines like Megadrive and NEO GEO .
yep the Wii is an awesome machine for this too without question.
Can wii do cps3 games and killer instinct arcade? Might be more suited to me as i live in an ultra small studio apartment
Don't think so: wiibrew.org/wiki/List_of_homebrew_emulators
RETRO GAMING ARCHIVE what does living in small apartment have anything to do with what system you have??
john lacy probably has to do with space limitations and getting the most out of one console.
You know what is good... XBOX MASTER RACE!!!
Vaderm Gameplayer switch............ps4...............

I sold my ps4 for an xbox one.
OG Xbox > Xbox 360 & Xbox one
pretty sick actually. so much you can do with it
Great sound in the back during that disassembly !
It's woth mentioning that pre v1.6 xboxes have crappy clock super capacitors. They leak sooner or later and destroy nearby traces, it's vital to remove or replace it. But never remove a 1.6's super cap, the console simply won't start without it.
Edit: the 1.6s can have now this issue too, so replace it if you can.
Makes me want to CF mod my already modded Xbox! I believe if you change that 40-pin IDE ribbon for the 80-pin version, it'll give you a little boost in overall speed of data transfer. (unless that was a popular myth :-) )
nope, its factual. will definitely look into that!
Thank you for posting this!
I love my xbox, got another one recently to upgrade. Wish you were still coding on this great console!
This was MVGs first big hit. What a classic!
VERY IMPORTANT: Not all USB flashdrives will work! I had to use a friggin' PINK MP3 player from the mid 00's my sister had laying around! But damn, does it work great!
I'm extremely glad there's still interest in the Xbox these days, I softmodded mine about a year ago and it's always fun to mess around with older games via FTP and see what kinda cool stuff you can do! I even customized my UnleashX dashboard to run in 720p, manually configuring the menus and everything! I love it!
I just bought a softmod bundle on ebay: Splinter Cell (even though the PS2 version was donated to me in a bundle in 2013), a USB flash drive and an adaptor cable (the seller says he tests before sending). I don't normally like to mod consoles, especially since my friends' chipped PlayStations all died and I had an unfortunate experience trying to region-free my SNES in 2002, but I GOTTA make an exception for the Xbox if I want to prolong my console's life! I also plan to get the lockout chip in my NES disabled.
well... mine has a 160gb ide hdd and works perfect
JSP Producciones!! Where’d u get yours? I’m having trouble finding a replacement hard drive or CFC-IDE adaptor I KNOW will work on the console.
i have 2 and i use them frequently and thank you for this guide
Dude!
Just wanted to say thanks so much for Surreal 64.
I still have my original Xbox and I still set it up on occasion.
I played the heck out of it through my 20s and then my kids loved playing it
through my 30s lol
I had it "tricked out" by a family friend with an
-80 (or 120?) gb hdd,
-EvolutionX Dashboard
-XBMC,
-and just about every emulator/ROM (Including yours)
Man, I'm getting nostalgic. I might have to bust it out again.
