    Hi Bruce. This is a 2008. Kawasaki says they fixed this issue. I wouldn't worry for your trip BUT keep this trick in your back pocket just in case. I ended up fitting an interrupter switch in line with that connector so I always have easy access.

    Thanks for the detailed video. I went out for the first start of the season to find my kipass unresponsive. I'm going to try your tricks and hope for the best...

      Hi Rob. If it is the Kipass, this will fix it. I wouldn't bother fixing the solenoid. Just do the switch fix that I describe. You'll never have to worry about it again.

      @@bharrison Brad brilliant video, my bike did it for the first time in the arse end of nowhere but after tap taping it came OK and has been fine since, do you need to remove the top fairing to get at the gizmo and does the solenoid cover come off fine, I'm thinking a spray of electrical cleaner might help things..

    • @bharrison
      @bharrison  3 роки тому +1

      @@Team-fabulous I'm happy it helped! I pulled the solenoid completely apart and cleaned it as you mentioned. It didn't solve the problem for me. Kawasaki replaces the spring (so I've heard) but I haven't done this. Instead, I do the interrupt switch and it always works now.

    Hi Richard. Yes. This is a 2008 Concours14/GTR14. No recall that I know of but I have heard stories of dealerships fixing it. I wouldn't bank on that though.

    Regarding the solenoid plastic cover - does it come off in a fairly obvious manner, i.e. a couple of screws, or what?
    And from watching this, it seems as if slider gets stuck from corrosion, of the magnet inside isn’t strong enough. What was the permanent fix? A new solenoid, or is it a complete key replacement? Do they sell that one part? And lastly, did they ever actually fix the problem.
    Great video by the way.

    I never had a problem with either one of my Concours, i was thinkin, maybe blow it off real good with air again like you did, then spray a little silicone spray on that switch, dry lubricant wont attract dirt or dust, also put a new battery in yr Fob....

      I know I'm a little late, but I like keyless a lot. The downside is that I drive several different vehicles, and have no mental standard, so I get used to get out of the car and leaving the key in it, or walking away from the bike and forgetting to turn it off...

    • @bharrison
      @bharrison  4 роки тому +1

      @@Inuktuuk It's the most simple solution you can imagine. Any 12v toggle switch will do. No amperage to deal with and you'll never be left stranded because of this stupid system. You can get around it by tapping on the solenoid switch until it works but this is worth the 20 mins it will take you to install. AND this is still one of the best sport tourers out there. I highly recommend the bike!

    Brad, it's okay.
    I am Carlos, I live in Brazil, I have a Concours 14, which burned the KIPASS module.
    I bought another kipass module on ebay, so I put the KDS3 scanner to configure the fob key, but the KDS3 system did not release the window for inclusion in the new key.
    Have you seen any problems like this?
    Would you help me?
    I thank Carlos

    Very nice Vid. Thanks. My problem is that I had lost my FOB and can't start my bike. I've talked to Kawasaki and they said I have to by a OEM FOB. So, with towing, buying the new FOB and programming the new FOB will cost me ruffly $500.00 to get my bike started. Not an option for me.
    Brad, would your technique of breaking down the switch allow me to start my bike without a FOB?
    Also, does anyone know where I can buy a backup FOB for much less than what the dealers selling it for($285.00)?
    Thanks again Brian.

    • @bharrison
      @bharrison  9 років тому

      Ouch. Sorry Brian. Without the fob you are out of luck using this procedure. You still need the fob. It isn't worth the hassle to see about bypassing the Kipass system. Fork out the money to make your small headache go away. Try to Jerry rig it and you may end up with a much bigger problem. Good luck!

    seen this twice, one on a bike I looked at buying and then now on the bike I eventually bought. How did you resolve this problem. Here in the UK the dealers don't want to know, my local dealer unofficially said that they have repaired the micro switch on some bikes, but tend to change the whole unit on most. Any advice on best fix? Many thanks Paul

      Hi Paul. Much the same here in Canada. Dealers don't want to acknowledge this is a problem.

    Brad
    Had the same problem as your describing in your video. I found there is a micro switch under the top ring where the piece sticks out at 9 o`clock, it had got stuck, freed up with a prod of a thin screwdriver and some WD40. Now the KIPASS is activated with the lightest of pushes on the top hat.

      Hi Ali, I just looked into that thread and the pictures you've attached don't seem to work. I don't currently have the problem but the next time I am going to unskirt the bike I'd like to take a look at it and maybe lube the micro switch. Is it possible to identify it in the video here whith Brad's disassembly of the part and, perhaps, provide a timestamp on when it's visible?
