- Rallying has seen some of the greatest race-bred machines in history, and while a lot of these have gone on to carve themselves legendary and successful careers, there are a great many others out there that didn't quite reach that standard. Time to give them the spotlight for a change.

What are some of your favourite forgotten rally cars? Today I wanted to start with some more well-known ones, but if I do make future parts I'd love to delve into the world of kit cars and regional rally competitions, as well as your suggestions of course!

Always loved the Lada 2108
Look at some Škodas, like the 130 and the RS. Favorit actually won some WRC events and the footage from the 1994 Finnish rally is absolutely amazing the drivers were giving it proper beans.

The CItroen Group B, the old Alfa Romeo Group B (they actually had a working Gourp B car), and the Nissan Group B car.
If a part 2 would come, it’d be sick for a more in-depth look at cars like: the Skoda Octavia wrc, Proton Iriz R5, Nissan Micra kit car, Seat cordoba wrc evo 1-3, Moskvich/aleko 2141KR, Ford escort Rs2000 or the Skoda Felicia Kit car!

They're very cheap here in Europe, just check for rust! Older Mazdas rust like crazy, I have a 626 '93, and let me tell you I know that from personal experience lmao
The turbo 1.6L motor in this car is actually the base for the miata motor!

One car that you should've totally mentioned is the Mazda 323, but not the normal 323, but its weird rally version, the *6 wheeled with **_2 Rotary Engines,_* yes that thing existed, kinda like the Tyrell P34 but rally car (even the 2 extras wheels are on the front, all 4 wheels steering).
Now, as expected, this car is very unknow, but there are some footage of it on the dirt, and pics of its 2 Wankel Engines, one in the front (like a normal car) and the other in the back (like a Group B version), and dont forget its Gigantic rear wing that reminds of a Pikes Peak car
My favourite forgotten rally cars was group b ta64 toyota celica in 1985 driven by juha kankunnen still remembered that car jumps on safari rally kenya.
Had a 323 TX 2wd back in '88, very good hot hatch. I sold it to my brother in '08. Car is in original condition, with a vrery little rust, has 180tkm on clock and drives well. Bro desn't want to give it back, he loves it.
The Ferrari rally car used the same wheels as the Lancia Stratos Group B cars.
If I remember correctly the Stratos also used the Ferrari v6 engine from the Dino.
Lancia Stratos were built for Group 4 and Group 5, not Group B.

Who would've thought that my mom's Daihatsu mini van was once competitor in rally back in the day.
Part two would be very welcomed. Some of my favs are the Group B Mitsubishi Starion & Citroen BX 4TC, MR2 222D Group S proto, and the FSO Polonez 2000

Man I adored watching old footage of the RX-7 going at the rally stages. Always wished that Mazda was more present in motorsports. But Le Mana really did Mazda dirty.
Part two would be nice, because I thought you would be touching upon the vauxhaul chevettes that participated in the late 70's qua early 80's era.
1979 Vauxhall Chevette HSR Works Rally Car was a car I loved to see race. Also the lancia stratos was entertaining to watch.
For Part 2 Would be more of 1990-2010 era car's like Seat, Proton, VW (Time before The Polo R) And more of the age and Great video Theese are the content i like to see. 🙂
Seat Cordoba Wrc from 90s was beautiful...
The one that I fairly recently saw that i absolutely love is the Chevy Sonic RS with an aero-kit attached. Looked awesome.
Unironically the TR7 is an underrated car and this is a pretty good reason as to why.
While everyone touts the Group B Audis, there’s been a myriad of less-successful outings and projects. I highly suggest looking into the mid-engine project, the Group S prototype, and the less successful cars after the end of Group B.
There’s also Skoda, who actually competed in the 70s and 80s with their own rally cars, and the Citroen BX 4TC, which was basically a heavier, worse quattro that competed in 1986, when even Audi themselves had a skunkworks team going behind the company’s back trying to go mid-engine.
I do think highlighting the post-Group B 80s would be the easiest source of unknowns, as that period of Group A is sandwiched between two giants of rally history.
Always makes me sad when brands go bankrupt.

Few suggestions for part 2: Seat Cordoba WRC, Hyundai Accent WRC, Proton Iriz R5, Proton Satria Neo S2000 and Lada 112 VK S2000 from newer ones.
From older ones few of the kitcars like Hyundai Coupe, Opel Astra, Seat Ibiza and Renault's. Vauxhall Chevette and BMW M1 could also feature. Along with Audi 200 Quattro and Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 4x4. Mercedes you talked about a bit and Audi 50 along with old Talbot's, Saab's, Volvo's and apparently Jaguar's and BMW's too. Hell I didn't know until very recently BMW and Jaguar competed in rallies same time period as original Mini Coopers. And of course FSO Polonez 2000 Rally.

Volkswagen Fox, I owned a new one throughout the 1990’s. They become popular as a regional competitor. I’ve also seen the wagon version kitted out too. Looked great as a rally car.

The TR7 was cool. I remember when those came out. We lived near a Sports Car dealership and I would ride my bicycle over there and just stare at the cars. So futuristic

great to know that the Daihatsu Charade completely owned the Safari Rally which was one of the hardest in the world, my parents drove one of those when I was a little kid

08:00 I'm sure that the silver Alfasud Sprint seen here was not one of the original 6C prototypes, but rather a unofficial reproduction using a transverse mounted V6 engine, most likely from an Alfa Romeo 164 or some other model. In 1982/1983, Alfa Romeo did not make any cars powered by a transverse mounted V6 and from all the information and photos I have seen, the Group B Alfasud Sprint 6C was built with a longitudinal mounted V6 engine and gearbox, similar to the Lancia Rally 037. The GTV6 had some success in rallying, including third place overall, and first in Group A. in the tragic Tour de Corse of 1986.

Oh, and the Talbot Sunbeam, manufacturer win in 1981 while the Quattro was arriving on the scene

Out of all the championship winning cars I've always perceived it as an overlooked one, even though its obviously still a favourite for a lot of people. Ask someone random to name a rally car off the top of their head and I doubt you'd have many people at all who would list the Ascona.
@@JackohMotors I agree with you. I think it's least well remembered championship winning driver/car used combo.

Seeing a world champion car in a forgotten cars list is a bit strange. The ascona isn’t really forgotten.
I included it as among all the cars that have won the world championship it is among the least remembered, particularly because it won right as Group B was introduced.
