FLAT OUT (The History of Rally) - Episode 9 - The Time for Change

- FLAT OUT is the video series covering the history of rally from its beginnings way back in the 19th century, its evolution and where it is today, all the while looking at some of the greatest cars, drivers and stages to grace the worldwide sport.
Episode 9 covers roughly the years of 1995-1999. The Japanese now had an iron grip on the world of rallysport, they were simply too good at building these rallying legends that no one could stand up to them. However, new rules and regulations brought in throughout the late nineties may have the potential to, once again, flip the championship on its head. But would they?

Which are better? The 4WD WRC Monsters or the nippy little 2 litre Kit Cars?
Tbh I have my bias towards 4WD monsters , I just love the Lancia Delta. That car is just too cool, a zippy hatchback with some good power, 4WD and rally heritage.
@@xenonentity713 true, but technically the Delta is a Group A car, not a WRC car, the WRC cars would be (of the 90s) the peugeot 206, the focus, imprezza, octavia, and the cordobba :D
4WD WRC Monsters, always
@@revenger210 Ah yes that's my mistake, I am kinda new to the rallying scene so I don't know much about the sport and it's regulations......Thanks for correction
@@xenonentity713 it's a bit confusing, that they are nearly always called wrc cars, but actually the class is world rally car. they're now changing the names, the new cars will be Rally1, Rally3, Rally3 and Rally4.
This video is getting emotional after attending last week's McRae Rally Challenge at Knockhill and having the chance to talk to Jimmy, Alister and Max McRae in person. I also met Elfyn & Gwyndaf Evans, Phil Mills and Sir Chris Hoy. What a sick weekend to be remembered for the rest of my life!
Ah yes, I've been waiting for some rally content
Man, I can't wait for another one of these. Great work, keep it up!!
Thank you so much :)
Your channel is soo underrated
I really like this series please do more. You gained a new subscriber
these models make me cry, great video, have shared.
Thank you! :)
Waiting for the nest episode!
Scripting it now!
2:03 the whole thing started in Portugal 95, where Toyota declared introduced a new "chip" that improved performance, and at the SS at Lausada it was clear the Toyota had much power than the rest, blowing the Subaru in acceleration.
The return of the king!
Small correction, Sainz was already a 2 time champion, going for a a 3rd.
Congratulations for another amazing video!
The "illegal" "4-eyed" Toyota Celica in that Castrol Livery will be forever one of my favourite race cars. I dont care if it was legal or not, it just looked great.
YES!!!
Yay new episode! Very good content 🍻
Thank you very much 👍
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!!!
Thank you very much :)
5:35 and again another mistake. the 34mm turbo restrictor was introduced in 95, and by the switch to wrc specs the 34mm restrictor still remain and power was around 300 hp in the initial years of the wrc regulations till the new millenium.
Where are the 3d car models from
I make them myself in Blender
@@JackohMotors good job dude!
3:05 what? the Title wasnt going to be given to Kankkunen, because after the rally Catalunya Sainz and McRae surpased him in the standings, and later came the DQ for Toyota and their drivers, so they didnt race in the last event of the years.
Commenting for the algorithm
Thank you very much :)
Great Video
Thank you very much :)
Yesss!
6:27 thats a 2001 picture.
Who else is hyped for the 10th flat out?!
I love McRae
3:08 wait wait wait Jackoh...
in 1995 Celicas were not the best cars (even with the turbo trick), in fact, Toyota won only 1 rally that season: Tour de Corse with Auriol.
Before Rally Catalunya there were 4 drivers in the fight for the title: McRae, Sainz, Auriol and Kankkunen (despite 0 wins that year).
So, nobody took the title to Juha and gave it to McRae.
Then, Toyota and Subaru were still in fight for the title. When Celicas trick was found, Subaru did not know that TTE will be out of competition for 12 months, so they just ask to the drivers to keep the positions for the manufacturers crown.
Then, McRae and Sainz (that jumped an event due an injury) were free to fight in the last round.
Sorry, maybe my english was not perfect.... I tried to do my best.
PS: naturally i really appreciated the series!
Did Toyota actually win the constructors championship after winning a single rally? Bc they must've been hella consistent
They were able to podium a lot too, so yeah, they were pretty consistent.
It's Peugeot 306, not 308
7:00 the final year of the 20Th century was the year 2000, ignorant.
4:00 what again? the team orders were applied during the Catalunya Rally, the thing about taking the crow by Carlos is a complete fake history from you, yes, Carlos was going to win the rally Catalunya and the Subaru crew told Colin it was going to be that way, but in the next round there wont be any team orders as they were equal on points, and by the press media at that time there were rumour about the turbo of the Impreza of Carlos was boosting less than Colin's. Dude, do your homework before making a video, its full of mistakes.
