The 3 stages of straight pipe madness: 1. Install straight pipe to make the car louder & throw away stock exhaust. 2. Install mufflers to make the car quiet again. 3. Regret throwing away the stock exhaust. I hope my muffler delete this weekend will improve sound tho :D
Or in my case: Step 1: Remove muffler(not loud enough. Step 2: Remove resonator(not loud enough). Step 3: Remove Pre-Cat and get full 3 inch downpipe.(Still not loud enough). Step 4: Remove Primary cat and just run 3 inch tubing all the way.(Still not loud enough). Step 5: Just remove the exhaust system(finally, but still not loud enough 😂). Maybe I'm going deaf. This is a true story btw. Went to the exhaust shop and they just kept wondering how far was I going to go lol.
@@demonkiller3418 I ended up getting a cutout on the downpipe which is similar. At idle a bit quieter though since it routes some exhaust through the full exhaust and hi flow cat. I've changed the setup at least 8 times.
For future reference...anything called a "resonator" belongs up close to the motor in order to modify sound and frequency before it bounces down the pipe. Move those things up under the driver and passenger...straight pipe the rest...It will sound WAY better
Correct me if I’m wrong but to get a more refined sound you should have the resonators closer to the cats. That allows the sound or exhuast to be slowed down and then travel further while having the resonators so close to the end there’s no sound refinement because the sound/exhuast escapes quicker.
Resonators have no effect on flow at all, they just absorb some of the unwanted tones in the exhaust. Look down into one, it's just perforated pipe, no obstruction to slow anything down.

It has much more of a growl. If you put those farther upstream it would sound completely different. Definitely have you respect that you did it yourself!
In my neighborhood If I parked my car on the curb, jacked it up, started sawing off my exhaust pipes the cops would be standing over me 5 minutes later, and not because it looks suspicious...
The BMW sounds not bad. I have a Chevy Venture van, replaced the rusty rotted muffler with a resonator, it sounds like a muscle car, has the low grumbling sound.
Did you at least do an x pipe? This is the issue you get with smaller motors. The exhaust you put on is to big for the motor. I'm sure you felt some loss of power, especially below 2000rpm. Idk what size piping you used, but looks to be too big. I bet a dual 1.5" pipe with 2" tips would have been better and changed the pressure inside the pipe, therefore increasing it's airflow through it. Good luck with dialing it in.
