  • More and more people are opting for mail in order or email motorcycle tunes due to the simplicity and cost. But is that tune your getting really doing what it's supposed to do? One thing to understand about these types of tunes is that they are sending you their best guess based on what you've done to your bike. Since they don't have your actual motorcycle, they are unable to fine tune it. And since every bike is just a little bit different, this means the tune you get, may be a little or a lot off. In this video, we take a look at a zx10r that was given an email tune to see how close they were and then compare it to our custom tune which is tuned for this specific bike. We'll answer some questions you may have, does a mail in tune work, is it worth it or can it harm my motorcycle? Is mail in ECU flashing worth it? Or should you just do custom dyno tuning? Watch the video and see what we come up with!

    I like watching your video's you're kind of new to me I'm a big fan of another tuner guy, but I like the fact you've been honest about mail in flashes was considering doing it to my bike but I don't live in the states,and my bike isn't going to get good numbers, might reach 100-103hp after the flash but I'm not looking for hp I want to get rid of the jerkiness in the throttle,and derestrict the ecu

    • @provenpowercycles
      @provenpowercycles  Рік тому

      There are options in the ecu to where you can make the off/on throttle response a little smoother without messing with the fuel mapping. But to get it all perfect, usually some manipulation of the fuel tables are required. 👍

      This particular flash I'm not sure. But I retune a lot of bikes from many different places.
      Sometimes people are looking for something very specific that a mail in just can't get right or its such a hassle going back and forth on it all that it turns into them getting a custom tune.

      My S1KRR &M1KRR Have been the only two bikes that I've benefited from a ordered tune! If my two bikes weren't on a closed loop system then I would be right back to the dyno just like every other bike I previously owned! My S1KRR I roll race and had to put it on the dyno to get EVERYTHING I needed out of it switching from MR12 to an E85 tune.

      I'm sorry to hear that. Every tune we do, I have to listen intently as to what the rider uses their bike for, so that I can try to get everything done on their wishlist and then some. Not every tuner cares to what their clients actually want and are in it for just the $$$

      I understand completely man. There is another way for people in remote areas. We fp remote tuning to help provide assistance for situations such as that. You need a datalogger and be able to pull data from the bike so adjustments can be made after the initial flash

    I am grateful to find your Channel!! Great content. When I come visit Citrus County, my bike runs so lean, Al Capone would be proud of my gunshots. Coming from near 5,000 feet elevation, I realized the Air Density and Density Altitude in Citrus County was commanding a whopping 14% (+/-) addition of fuel. Once I added the fueling required, my bike was running strong with all that extra oxygen!! Right now, my weather App shows YOUR LOCATION to be 85.2 Degrees, Humidity at 51%, Pressure of 30.06 InHg, Altitude of 31 feet. However, your DENSITY ALTITUDE (DA) is 1,816 feet. Even though your DA is 1,816 feet, your Air Density is still 94.79% achieving an SAE Relative HP of 99.78%. Here, where I am? Right now, my DA is 6,328 feet and my SAE Relative HP is a horrible 84.36%!! From my location to yours as of this comment, I would require 14.53% more fuel to compensate for 12.03% more Air Density. I'd like to speak with you and put a plan of action into place to dial in (perfect) a tune for Florida. My current setup is using Woolich Racing Software. Can you work with this? If not, I can bring my laptop and make any changes you dictate based off of the dynograph readings. I have 100% access to make adjustments where necessary (IAP, TPS, ETV, IGNITION, AUTOBLIPPER, QUICKSHIFTER, ETC). Let me know your thoughts. Thank you in advance.

    An overlay of your usual mail in tune vs your just tuned map from the dyno would be best. Will you update your mail in flash to the newer just dyno'd map ? 10 hp+ over the other mail in flash is impressive, very surprised it only gained 3+ hp going from a 12.4 AFR to your final tune AFR.

      I have many different maps depending on the bikes and mods. What I do is I baseline the bike first (usually with a stock map) so I have an idea as to what map will work best for that bike.
      In this case, since it easier flashed by someone else, it was more of a guess on what map to put into it. 👍👍

    Is it possible to just keep the secondary throttle valves fully open so that it has no more effect on the power delivery. It is as if the bike has only one set of throttle plates, the primary throttle plates only. Why do we even have secondary throttle plates anyway? Those are controlled by the ECU. We think we have 100% full throttle on the primary throttle but then again the secondary throttle plates will just shut us down back to partiall throttle, sort of.

    • @provenpowercycles
      @provenpowercycles  Рік тому +3

      So almost all of the newer style drive by wire bikes now have a single row of throttle plates instead of 2 rows. I have tested the 100% wide open plates vs other methods and leaving them open 100% of the time showed me that you would loose lower end torque / hp. Now, it has been a long time since I have tested that again with advancements in technology but it's something I'll probably visit again in the future 👍

      We are extremely thorough in our tuning. We check almost every cell in the tune. Whether it be a retune, new bike that hasn't been tuned, or a bike that has been flashed by another company.
      I will start showing more of this in future videos, it is just hard to cram it all in to a 15-20min video. Thank you for the comment 🤙

      @provenpowercycles  Рік тому +1

      Not much unfortunately. Since it is bt moto flashed, you could purchase a datalogger and pull the datalog files off and send them your files so they can make adjustments off of those but I'm not sure what kind of support they will supply you. Some companies won't help you with things such as that. You will have to contact them and ask 👍

    Could it be that the air filter is clogged ?

    • @provenpowercycles
      @provenpowercycles  Рік тому

      When we install the wiring to flash and dyno tune this particular bike, you have to remove the top half of the airbox to get to the ecu / wiring. During this time we usually blow out the airbox and air filter.
      In this case he had a newer sprint p08 air filter that needed very little cleaning up 👍👍

    The average rider knows that a custom ( tune ) is better than a mailed in ECU flash vs stock ECU. 100% OF BIKES that have a mailed in ECU flash are faster than stock

    • @provenpowercycles
      @provenpowercycles  Рік тому +1

      I do this every day, I have seen bikes come in making less than stock hp from a bad mail in flash. Not all bikes have easy factory restrictions that you can just "remove" to make it faster. Some require a little more in depth tuning. 👍👍
