A couple of years back, I happened to visit Kolkata...a short 3 days business visit... The entire visit, i tried bengali food - for the first time in my life, fried fish, curry, steamed in banana leaf all in local small restaurants...each one of the dish just blew me away! I haven't got a chance to visit Bengal again...but almost every other day, I crave for the things that I had eaten there... The nature of my work keeps me busy...but I hope and wish that I take my family to Kolkata...for the amazing food!
I wish I had the patience to try this out. But I just come over here on weekends to enjoy the detailed explanations, the sounds and ofcourse the recipe. Im such a fan. :)

I get to eat this every year in Bangalore during Durga puja..( thanks to the Bengali association people for the food stalls ) the fish and the mustard sauce with onion is just too good. The poori, mutton and chicken curry, fish wrapped in banana leaf and many more which I don't know the names of. It's that time of the year again.. and iam excited !!

Never seen a fish being filleted before! The last bit, when he cuts perfect rectangles on the diagonal, and semi-butterflies the last slice was choreography! And what flourish too. Even when you use the bench scraper to reshape the fillets, also spoke to the level of detail and perfection of this video. Must have been a lot of work, but one of your best! Love it. It's in times like this that i miss my hometown of Kolkata. For me this becomes more than just a video of Fish fry, it gives me the nostalgic vibes of being a young kid who use to run around along with my sister to the kitchen and wait impatiently for our grandmother (now deceased) who used to prepare this for us during the first Sunday of every month. How time flies.... Just want to say that the filming of this video is really good and unique compared to most that are also online. To even show the fish market along with the amazing knife skills of Mr. Gurey was a great move for giving credit where it is due. Not all fish mongers fillet the fish on a normal basis, so hopefully we see a gradual change in ideas. This really stood out for me. Overall a nice video with a touch of nostalgia that will be understood by every Bengali who is living out of their hometown.

I have used this recipe to make fish fry twice here in Hyderabad. Have tried to follow the exact ingredients and instructions, came out really well. 100 times better than any Bengali restaurants over here.
