  • Picked this up at a flea market super cheap, but it’s complete and has the powder for making the Bio- Flesh mold. In this video I explore this Playset and its features.
    Enjoy!

I miss Kenner Toys! The 80's and 90's were the pinnacle of toys. Kids these days are missing out!

It worked very well back in 92 !!!
My friend had this and we made figure after figure .
It was so cool and you could rip apart your figure with an sword bit by bit !!!!
Very graphic for us kids !!!!! It was awesome 👌

If nothing else, that playset base is prime for customizing. Some paint and stickers would make it work with almost anything

I had this as a kid in 1992. I also had the Terminator hand that was articulated to fit over a kid’s hand. I tried to cover the hand in this stuff and I had the same results as you. My childhood dreams of peeling the skin off my hand to expose a Terminator hand in the middle of class were crushed.

It seems it should be more like a latex in the commercials and the box more than wet sand.

You’re welcome! Im glad it brought back memories of your toy, thanks for the kind words. Curious, did you ever get the bioflesh play feature to work for you as a kid or was this was your experience too?

@@toysbackzen sorry I never had or collected T2 toys but I do remember the toy line ,I might had one figure yrs ago ,but that’s the curse of living as long as I hav almost 6 decades and a love for toys it’s almost like a time machine you seen and lived the moment, things you’ve seen and remember it’s a shame getting older but I’m glad I still hav a memory and the same passion for toys. Again a very Awesome video

I loved this thing as a kid. I remember the bio flesh being hard to find after a few months. It was kinda like jello mixed with silicone. It would dry out though. Much like plaster, and we would paint them after giving the flesh damage. The mad scientist toys were neat too

The compound is dental algenate. The same stuff they use to cast impressions of your teeth at the dentist. I work with this stuff in special effects on occasion.

I never knew that the Terminators sent back in time to the 20th century were created in an Art Deco laboratory, lol!

En Argentina este juguete lo trajo la compañía Jocsa como un producto suyo pero nunca lo ví en ningún lado ni oí hablar, pero ví que era muy dificil lograr que quede tal cual la imagen de la caja.

When I was younger, I would cover my endoskeleton action figure with silly putty to get this effect. I would have killed to just have the mold for this so the terminator wouldn't be an amorphous blob.

I had one when it first came out, and I had nearly identical results. Actually, mine were worse because my goop kept leaking out the sides, but it never became even slightly solid.

Nearly the same here, except I had one or two that came out 97-98% complete, but all the rest the goop would leak out the sides.

My mom was reluctant to buy this for me when it came out, saying it’d be stupid. She bought it for me anyway. I used it once. She was correct.

Not a big fan of T2 action figures but I like the bio flesh generator compound as a display playset for a story backdrop set in the future meaning you can send a terminator to any place you will in your story and that guy can go terminate whoever you pick in your story. I have a few terminator figures, I have the neca terminator 2 t-800 arnold n some of the nineties figures, i have two endoskeletons and i think i still have T-600 from terminator Salvation toy assortment. Maybe you can try using the terminator Salvation bio regenator powder it comes with from playmates; the powder on that one seems to work but kenner is way too old to operate. That is if you can find one of them.

    • @toysbackzen
      @toysbackzen  6 місяців тому

Thanks for the idea but I’m done with this play feature for now. It does make a great display for the figures which is what I really bought it for. Cheers!

Having always wanting a Terminator playset from Kenner, this is the only thing that comes close to being one and always been thinking of buying it but have doubts about the jell still able to function. This pretty much let me know I don't need to get a new sealed version but just the set 😅
Still I do wonder if there's any modern components that can be similar to that powder and be used to replace the formula and recreate what the original was suppose to do. A action figure covered by goo that is supposed to fall off as the figures take "damage" is just a cool idea for a play time.

I have been wondering that myself, it would have to not stick to the plastic and perhaps not be extruded. Playdough would be the obvious thing I think.

My man, this material is alginate. It is a common casting material used by both the dental and special makeup effects industries for decades. Make up effects use it for facial and body castings of actors to sculpt makeup appliances on and dental uses it for teeth casting. If you ever had braces, you will remember the stuff. I suspect they have tinted it with pancake makeup for the flesh color as alginate is white in its natural form. It is made from algae and so non toxic that it can be eaten in its solid form, which is why it was used in a child's toy. You can order more from monstermakers and tint it with drugstore pancake makeup. Your alginate to water ratio is way off. The ratio is typically about two parts alginate to one part water. I haven't been part of the effects industry in terms of special makeup for ages though, so modern brands may be a bit different. Look up alginate mixing on youtube or google for tutorials. Your kit didn't have nearly enough powdered alginate for even one good casting but if you buy some fresh material and learn to mix, this will work very well. It is a very easy material to work with and get. Have fun!
Oh, I should also mention that the cheap amazon and craft store alginates that old ladies use to make castings of their grandchildren's hands turn purple when mixed with water for some reason. Stay away from them. Purchase from monstermakers, Burman industries or Frends(actually spelled "Frends")beauty supply to get high quality base white alginate from hollywood professionals.

Wow, thanks for the thorough information! That makes sense, every time I lowered the recommended ratio it became thicker but also harder to extrude into the mold. Maybe they had the ratios backwards in the instructions. I may try it again, the other container was still full. Cheers!
