I really enjoyed your review. Your honesty and candor were much appreciated. I've just recently purchased a Jakl, and now I know what to look for. Thanks!
I absolutely love the PP slinging at trex. Oh, and the trick for reassembly, is actually simpler. Reassemble at a 45° angle so the piston falls both into the gas block
The 1lb is something used to fret, but after some thought I realized; when I was issued a rifle with a 203 and GLS(Grenade launcher sight) I hated the extra weight the GLS added for how infrequent I used it and the fact I preferred a leaf sight. Now I’m realizing you can resent “bad weight” but good weight also exists. Weight=less perceived recoil and also, if you hump a rifle long enough it doesn’t matter how much it weighs, it all sucks the same.
Does PSA provide the torque specs for those barrel screws? Also, recommend using paint markers on them for visual checks. Lastly, those seemed pretty tiny if they were the primary means of securing the barrel.
The issue with the material of the stock feeling cheap was also noted by InRangeTV and Sinistral Rifleman. Sinistral is the director at KE Arms and said it was because the fiberglass content of the polymer blend was lower than normal for the firearms accessory industry. The reason you would do this is cost-cutting. The lower the fiberglass content on a polymer part, the less wear that is caused on the tooling. Likely the designers intended a traditional polymer blend to be used, but they made the stock too complicated for it to come within budget, so to balance that out someone higher-up decided to reduce the fiberglass content of the polymer blend to reduce turnover on tooling.
Thanks for the heads up I bought one awaiting for to be shipped, but now I know I need to overlook everything if PSA isn’t going to do their job when assembling these things sounds quite dangerous.
I got two AR lowers from PSA and one was fine, but the other had the buffer tube so loose that I could spin it freely by hand. The first shot at the range popped out the buffer detent spring and made it useless until I fixed it at home with a replacement detent spring.

There are so many good AR uppers.. and the fact that the MCX also works on AR lowers.. and now this too works on AR lowers, and many others; Just solidifies the fact that AR's will never be surpassed. They are here to stay for the long run.
I could see AR lowers evolving, we don't really need buffer tubes anymore. It would be possible to have a FCU that would drop into different lowers, similar to Sig P320, so you could have a 5.56 and a .308 that has one serial number.
@@lance9150 Yeah.. An FCU type lower that works with standard uppers could be cool. I'm not sure it would catch on to the masses though, just because I'm sure it would cost too much to compete.
Great review. I love my Jakl. I’m at 1200 rounds through it and it’s been phenomenal. I can hit turkey and coyote steel targets at 550yds with 55gr and a 3x magnifier without issue. Unfortunately someone set an anvil on my box during shipping. The bolt catch paddle was broken when I opened the box. I got a phase5 EBR V3 ambi bolt catch. It is close to a direct fit but I took out some material to make it fit perfectly. I like that so much I got one for my AR’s as well. Much better than a bad lever imo. No sponginess and it’s closer to the trigger guard. Other than that I’ve had no problems. Was a bit over gassed out of the box. Worked down to position 6 on the gas and it’s perfect. I have noodle arms but that’s what the gym and a sling are for. It’s a really fun gun to run. I keep the stock 2 clicks out because I’m short and the stock feels ok. Kinda bendy but not as bad as when extended. It’s my first piston gun. Waiting on the .308 version to get restocked so I can get one. I’m looking forward to PSA advancing this platform. Haters are gonna hate. Meanwhile I’ll be smiling at the range.
As an owner of multiple XCR’s, I’m curious what the “falling off” comment was. I looked to try to find him doing a review of the xcr but couldn’t find any. Someone know what he was talking about?
Love the review, one comment though. It is only 1 example, but my XCR in 5.56 has gone through 2 shooting classes (3400-3500rnds) and performed great. Did have to mortar is once for a stuck case and it did send brass to the nexrlt zip code at lowest setting it would cycle reliably.
I own a few examples myself in different calibers and have had excellent results with all of them. I think a lot of issues are with those that do not understand an adjustable gas system.
Any experience with the caracal 816? The bolt carrier is proprietary but it does use an ar bolt. Been my go to but I have nowhere near your round count. Curious to see if any have come through your class.
So I feel like you did a perfect job on this review with heavy emphasis on the stock. The main thing I would add is how much rubbery flex you have from the stock. I struggled getting a good group at distance just because I could get so much flex in the stock, that it was difficult to get a proper repeatable hold on the rifle. I finally had to trash it and put an Sig minimalist stock on it.
I have had many different piston rifles. The LWRC IC-A5 and IC-E were all overgassed like mad and couldn't be regulated. They were both the harshest-recoiling AR-15 rifles I've ever shot, and not in just an uncomfortable way but in terms of it making it difficult to stay on target while rapid firing. The Ruger SR556 was the smoothest in recoil, but had a ridiculous heavy front as it had the most hefty gas block. I loved the rifle otherwise except that the bolt carrier was unshrouded and it would peen on the firing pin/ hammer. No thanks. And with no spare parts, it's not like I could just buy a replacement. The Sig 516 was darn near perfect. Barrel is 14.5, moderate weight gas block, robust piston and gas rings on the piston to allow more precise and less gas, it had light recoil impulse. It also has adjustments to allow different ammo. No regrets selling my LWRC's and keeping the 516. Unfortunately, SIG stopped selling these and spare parts. Go figure...
@@OutSciEd that's insane! All I ever heard was how good LWRCI is and how smooth their piston feels , I'm still considering if I should go with a LMT 12.5-14.5 or a LWRCI 12.5-14.5 . At this rate I might as well just stick to DI

Well I’m buying this gun. Please fellas help a fellow gun toting American out. What suppressor should I run for the jakl 14.5” blackout 300? I also need a good optic and laser/flash light . First time building my own I normally buy things fully built. Would love suggestions on ANY attachments or additions ! 🎉
Another thing I'll say to newcomers is this: before you decide to buy multiple weapons, prioritize getting a suppressor first. Get a rifle, get a sling/optics/light/spare magazines/and a stock that you like, then get a suppressor. Don't buy plate carriers, don't buy night vision, don't buy a 'backup rifle', but a suppressor
Also, once you get your first "serious" gun (either an AR or AK platform, lets be real here) and kitted it out to your preference, any rifle purchase afterwords should be acknowledged as a hobby.
Cool review and thorough. There's a couple things I will be checking and making sure are ok on mine that I didn't even think about.... but I can't help but look at multiple rifles in the video and how they had the front iron sight mounted more towards the middle of the rifle instead of the front closer to the muzzle and have lights and lasers mounted in front of the sight. That's immediately a no for me, that iron sight needs to be mounted as far up front as possible for the best accuracy and if they are backup sights, you want them to clear the red dot or scope etc so that if you need to use them, you can actually use them without having to remove the other optic as you might not be able to do this in the middle of whatever is going on at that moment. I say this because I noticed you had the front iron sight mounted very close to the red dot and it seems like you can't actually line the sights up because the red dot is in the way and the iron sights don't look like they can co-witness but that could just be me that I can't really see it all that well in the video... keep it going dude, good videos!
And this is precisely why I garner more information from your channel as opposed to several other channels. You're not an entertainer. You actually review these rifles. Completely don't understand the weight argument, my current set up is a 20" HBAR barrel AR. Thats been my go to for years.
Love the Halo music since I always thought (okay since 2007) that the ACR and the imo even better looking JAKL (the upper receiver pattern with the screws is kinda Halo BR ish btw) should've been the actual main rifle in the Halo universe with a few tweaks here and there. Also nice to see other dudes still rocking the 20" muskets, which is also still my favorite despite testing all the modern Gucci stuff for years, maybe it's simply because my arms, neck etc are so long, but I just prefer it even with just iron sights. Yes, the Covenant are still laughing at us for using "primitive projective weapons" (it's literally in the original OG Halo 2 manual).
I did say that, i did mean it, and it is on my list of things to do. The challenge I have is setting aside pretty expensive ammunition for a product i know isnt very good nor as relevant as other things im working on.
@@RosaParksWasWyta zpap is antiquated firearm. And I own a few of em myself but comparing it to a modern rifle is just silly to get one with an optic and peq mounted your going to have close to a 11lb 7.62x39 rifle… the best thing Zastava was m92 pistols mount a red dot on dust cover pic rail and use as a truck gun. As far as a full size battle rifle if you live in the US you should be going 556 and a AR style rifle .
@@JoeWayne84 first of all I have multiple AR’s and who are you to say what I should have? And what loser thinks he’s gonna be a meal team 6 operator and running night vision in shtf? Yeah you’ll last 5 seconds and be a loot drop lol. When I say the zpap is better, I’m saying it will last a century and never have a malfunction while that jakl definitely will not be able to do that
I think the mr556 is a bastardized mess of a rifle that's marked up insanely high and outclassed by the brn4 I bought that's both properly gasses and has replacement parts that both work and are affordable. Three jakl question is a good one, but if it's taken into consideration that a user looks the thing over and finds no issue, and then makes sure the build quality is solid with use. The simple adaptability of the thing is greater than an mr556, but is something I'd shelve in favor of a brn4 when you weigh performance against dollars spent.
rewatching part of this, and I just wanted to state that I 100% agree that, a large percentage of the time, when people have 'atypical, but alarming issues' with things, for those people, it's often times the result of their doing or their negligence. Like people frequently having problems with computers or other electronic hardware, usually their fault. People having excessive wear on firearms or other problems with the build, usually their fault for doing something wrong or doing something atypical or being negligent. I'm not saying that PSA is an 'amazing manufacturer', but a lot of the issues that people have are things that could have been fixed if you took the time to EXAMINE your weapon. It's not like Daniel Defense rifles or Geissele rifles are perfect either. Sometimes you get loose components, sometimes you get pic rail that's slightly out of spec, but if it's not a problem you can easily fix yourself, then just send it back.
I feel that once PSA makes some generational refinements to these and it becomes a mature design, that it will possibly be one of the best rifles of its class.
If I didn’t already have an ACR i definitely would have bought a jakl. That being said… I’m considering getting rid of my ACR and getting the PWS UXR I love the caliber conversion function of the ACR but the UXR can switch between AR15 and AR10 calibers and their conversions are actually readily available and inexpensive
I dont think the jakl is good enough in its other respects to excuse an extra pound of weight for a new rifle if youre grading it in a serious manner for duty use to be honest. Its a cool design but are you getting anything for that pound?
Easy to tune, and easy to suppress without endurance issues of any sort are bigger attributes to an adaptable rifle than the words suggest. And to me a single pound isn't remotely an issue..... not even close There again, that's me.
I'd really love to see a review on an SU16, being that it's actually a carbine. The 13.7 JAKL is a shorted rifle, not a carbine, because carbines are light and convenient in every aspect, while rifles are for fighting. Not to say both types of long arm can't be interchangeable, like making a very light weight AR15 or a fighting set up for an SU16. Thanks anyway and good day
I don't wanna be that guy, but..... my XCR-L is a phenomenal gun and never had anything, "fall off it." And before you say it, yes - it has a shit ton of rounds through it over the years. However i do agree with you that the JAKL is a great gun too, i recently got one i love it. I still would pick the XCR over it, but in terms of bang for your buck - the JAKL blows it outa the water. You get a gun damn near as good while also being considerably cheaper.

Can’t help ya, I refuse to pay a $200 tax and put myself on a registry.
Am I crazy or am I hearing Halo mission music. I forget which mission and the name of the song though.
there's a mix of games in there but yes, you do hear some music from the original halo ce
Great review.. anymore Jakl vids would be awesome. Thanks bro!
Ruger SFAR high round count review coming soon?
Is the t2 still your recommended red dot?
Yes
Great information and perspective. Thank you.
The carbine is a projectile weapon
Is that the halo soundtrack in the beginning at 6:40
Sir cause of you ive finally moved to the camp of i wanna get it as my next project
I’ve been watching the channel for a while now and am interested in attending a class. Ever come out to Colorado?
Least for now I do not.
The XCR is the ACR I want (and have) at home. I like the price of this gun though.
Am i trippin or did u say that a zpapm70 review was coming in the future?
I did say that, i did mean it, and it is on my list of things to do. The challenge I have is setting aside pretty expensive ammunition for a product i know isnt very good nor as relevant as other things im working on.
oh deer. that sounds like the majority of what we need to know right there lmao@@Regular_Guy_Training_LLC
@@Regular_Guy_Training_LLC I mean a zpap m70 is a lot better rifle than a jakl
When I say the zpap is better, I’m saying it will last a century and never have a malfunction while that jakl definitely will not be able to do that
Brother, great video and all but man... The Freespace soundtrack?? There are so few of us out there... Subbed.
Ayyyyyyy somebody finally got it!!!
Should have known considering the 70th blue lions crest lol.
Love the Halo background music
I mean it’s cheaper to run and replace parts over sigs mcx. Took me years to acquire parts.
Now the question is: does this still make sense when an HK MR556 upper is $1400?
I think the mr556 is a bastardized mess of a rifle that's marked up insanely high and outclassed by the brn4 I bought that's both properly gasses and has replacement parts that both work and are affordable.
Three jakl question is a good one, but if it's taken into consideration that a user looks the thing over and finds no issue, and then makes sure the build quality is solid with use.
The simple adaptability of the thing is greater than an mr556, but is something I'd shelve in favor of a brn4 when you weigh performance against dollars spent.
Is that music from Freespace?
Yup

i bought a pws mk11 mod2 and have put well over 6000 rounds on it suppressed and it has had zero problems. fucking love it
PWS is by far superior to any other operating system, in my opinion. I've had a PWS mk111 mod 1 since 2015 and has been flawless since day 1.
thank you sir, im left handed and the jakl to me was a great deal.
So I should definitely check all the screws and fasteners before firing… noted
rewatching part of this, and I just wanted to state that I 100% agree that, a large percentage of the time, when people have 'atypical, but alarming issues' with things, for those people, it's often times the result of their doing or their negligence.
And the plastic hinges
If I didn’t already have an ACR i definitely would have bought a jakl. That being said… I’m considering getting rid of my ACR and getting the PWS UXR I love the caliber conversion function of the ACR but the UXR can switch between AR15 and AR10 calibers and their conversions are actually readily available and inexpensive
This was probably the best review I’ve ever seen
Love your videos man, but could you please turn down the background music. It’s a little hard to hear you at times.
Yeah, I noticed that after I thought the video was perfect lol
Love the Tetris melody when talking about the front sight area.
“He’s much stronger than he looks.”
“I’m wiry…”
Great review Chris.
And to me a single pound isn't remotely an issue..... not even close
There again, that's me.
I think the price point is a bigger factor for the market.
You should do a closed emitter pistol optics review
Last one that I did was with Holosun
Yes! Needed this review from you, I trust your opinion a lot more than the other gun tubers
22 year old here. While it took me a minute to get the Lenny reference (Of mice and men) I did get it lol. We had to read the book and watch it in high school. So there are still some schools that make us read it lol great video btw
The shitting on the T.Rex review.... Fucking chefs kiss
How does that F5 stock feel ?
Just fine, boring even
@Regular_Guy_Training_LLC intresting, I Want to put one on my 105 AK, since I can't find a magpul or haga ACR style i might have to settle for these.
@@Regular_Guy_Training_LLC Boring? It gives it THAT look!

I heard the JAKL is feont heavy, so much so, some guys are contemplating turning down the barrel in a.lathe to shave weight despite the barrel being so hard to remove.
Seems like a gym membership would be a simpler solution…
this is just..... not remotely true
