What will grab you in this presentation from the very first moment, is Jeangu Macrooy's unique voice. His highly personal songs are incredible energetic. As soon as his first productions were released in the Netherlands, he was named 'Serious Talent' by 3FM radio. And he was invited to play his first single 'Gold’ on the famous Dutch talkshow 'De Wereld Draait Door’. Jeangu Macrooy has the ultimate voice for the stage. Being the first act of the day, Jeangu blew us immediately into another reality. After his first song he whispered - almost like an apology - “Goodmorning TEDx”
Jeangu Macrooy was born and raised in the tropical warmth of Paramaribo. His musical interest was sparked at a young age, resulting in an enrolment at the conservatory of Suriname. After two years, Jeangu decided to continue his musical career at the other side of the ocean, in the Netherlands. A collaboration with producer Perquisite kicked off and last year he was signed to his label Unexpected Records.

Wow, I like it all but I find the intro before he starts singing Gold the most beautiful. Does someone know what it's called or what he sings about?

Maron Rops its a spiritual song from Suriname. Meaning praying to mother earth for rain so that the crops can grow.
