He was just removing the cover to reseal it guys it was just old and he wanted it to be a clean job. You don't need to remove it but while your at it you may as well and replace the gasket.
On a differential without a drain plug you usually remove the cover to drain. What is the purpose on this differential if the plugged drained 99% if the fluid? Unless you need to inspect something?
The authorized dealer in the area where I live uses 75w90 and I have not had any problems, despite the owner’s manual registered as 75w140. Why is there this difference? Could it cause a problem in my next 2017 Ram approved by the dealer?
If it is a posi or limited sip it is a good idea to inspect it tosee how much clutch material is in the bottom of the housing specially if it has a lot of mileage on it.
Your kidding me right? The rubber fill plug was doing the leak, you should have replaced it? There was nothing wrong with the rear cover plate! Amazing!

Cheap bastards at Dodge. A rubber plug instead of a proper metal filler plug.

WHY PULL COVER IF NO LEAKS,ONLY A SMALL AMOUNT OF FLUID CAME OUT,
