- Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Attorney General Ashley Moody announced the suspension of Hillsborough State Attorney Andrew Warren, effective immediately, for refusing to enforce Florida law.
During his announcement DeSantis stated that Warren thinks he’s "above the law" and has been "picking and choosing" what laws to enforce, citing the state's 15-week abortion ban as the most recent example.

Any crime committed by a suspect released for a prior crime by these judges should also charge the judges with accessory to the crime. This needs to happen to prosecuters across the country.
Nailed it. Lots of innocent people have been murdered, robbed or brutalized by people who should be in jail. There must be accountability for these officials.
There was a story/study here in baltimore recently. In the last three years, 71 murders were committed by people who should have been in prison at the time of the murder, just by the minimum sentencing guidelines. They finally voted the states attorney out.
Now, I understand that 71 out of the 1,000 or so murders doesn’t seem like much, but even 1 is too many. Go get em, gov D.

Next time someone asks what right the governor has to remove an elected state attorney, respond by asking what right a state attorney has to ignore the laws written by elected government representatives.
This should go to Court. The Attorney here needs to take it to Court. If a State Attorney ignores the laws, that's still the will of the people. It balances out the power of the Governor and that's why the elections are structured that way. In this case it's even more clear because this is the Attorney of a specific County, not the whole state of Florida. If this Attorney refuses to prosecute, then the Attorney General of the State should step in and prosecute, instead of a suspension by the Governor.

@@jugoolick2006 The state attorney general Ashley Moody advised the governor to suspend him. As a prosecution to recall would take a long time. Also, he can try to fight the decision. That’s easier than prosecuting him on dereliction off duty. Which is clear, even without a court case. As he literally said he wasn’t going to follow the laws. That’s like being a cop, and saying you won’t arrest people.

@@nspowers7130 LOL; ok if you only take away the authoritarian governor, the limiting of teacher's curriculum, pushing voting restrictions, new congressional map, getting involved in private business affairs, taking away the right of parents over their children and a whole bunch of other authoritarian antics. This "paradise" is especially welcoming when you factor in the huge home insurance problems in the state, the largest ongoing medical frauds in the country, intolerable high humidity, entitled/belligerent drivers, topography that is as flat as a pancake and of course the wonderful ever present amounts of senior citizens all over. Yes it is a "paradise"!

@@Nvable It’s pretty obvious what I’m saying here: right wing, “Christian” moralizing is suddenly the lingual Franca down there and I find it to be uncaring, unconstitutional, disrespectful of the rights of others (particularly women of child bearing age) and totally retrograde. If stupid, fearful White people want to hide behind DeSantis’s turn backward into the dark ages I see too few people of intelligence or power in the state to try and prevent it.
My entire family re-located down there in the Summer of ‘73 and I’ve watched with fascination what a Southern Fried backwater for White folks it has become over the years. DeSantis is a bold faced opportunist (And running as fast as his fool mouth and fat little legs can carry him towards the ‘24 presidency)
