- The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is ongoing. In the last years, the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians has come to a halt. The situation is tense due to the ongoing Israeli occupation and the shortcomings from the Palestinian leadership. But also the attitudes of the international community and in particular the US, the EU and the Arab League are not helping to solve the conflict.
In 2013 the EFA MEPs François Alfonsi, Jill Evans and Ana Miranda visited the West Bank and East Jerusalem to see first hand what this conflict is about.
In this video they share how they experienced the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Let us look at the situation in the context of international law. Article 42 of the 1907 Hague Regulations states the following: “a territory is considered occupied when it is actually placed under the authority of the hostile army.”
Now we will look at the situation in Palestine. Israel’s army controls every aspect of life in the West Bank. Palestinians have their movements restricted; they cannot farm their fields without Israel permission, go to work without Israeli permission, attend school, visit family or friends, or generally move about without Israeli permission. Palestinians are subject to arrest and detention without charge at the whim of Israel soldiers/terrorists.
The Gaza Strip, separated from the West Bank, is completely controlled by the hostile Israeli army. It is blockaded on all sides by land, sea and air. Imports and exports are heavily restricted by Israel. It is extremely rare for a resident of Gaza to be able to leave the strip, even to visit family or friends in the West Bank.
Does this not, even to the untrained eye, look like occupation?
As long as we are looking at ugly concepts, let’s chat for a moment about apartheid. The International Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid describes these conditions as constituting that particular crime: “… inhuman acts committed for the purpose of establishing and maintaining domination by one racial group of persons over any other racial group of persons and systematically oppressing them.” We will look at some of the specifics from the International Convention, and comment on them in relation to Israel and Palestine. While this is only a partial list, a review of the complete list would only enhance one’s belief that Israel is an apartheid regime.

Israeli soldiers and settlers, living illegally on stolen Palestinian land, routinely kill Palestinians. Palestinians have been shot in the back, run over by vehicles, shot while attending the wounded or reporting on Israel’s actions. I think people should never be divided or discriminated or pushed away from where they live. Its so sad to see such separation and hatred between the two groups: Israelis and Palestinians. I'm sure God has never wanted this to be the way. I live in America and believe me there are so many races of people here living together. From all countries and nationalities. The correct thing to do is to come together. Everyone has the same basic wants and needs. Governments should work together for the betterment of all people. No matter the religious beliefs, race or color. Everyone should be respected. That is what makes the difference anywhere. I pray for peace in Gaza and for the people of Palestine. Hopefully the correct politics and the best ways of thinking take over in Israel and the entire Middle East so that all the inhabitants in the area enjoy freedom, happiness and equality. When I was at Kibbutz Gat in 1981 I don't remember any checkpoints. what I do remember is that when I was in Tel Aviv on holiday the Palestinians working in the hotel where I stayed had to return to their homes straight after they finished work, they were not allowed to stay in or near their workplace. The hotel Management were good, they provided accommodation for these workers (which was against the rules) but they did not agree with these rules. Bloody crazy. I went back in 1984 to complete a Solar energy project for my Degree. I would never go back. By the way a lot of Jewish people DO NOT AGREE with what is going on there.

Too many people make a political issue out of people who just want to live, grow old and die in peace in the land where they, their parents, grand-parents and the generations before them were born in.
