I found this video because I was imagining a blanket with both knit and crochet. I'm really thankful for all the tips and things to consider. Plus now I know I'm not a lunatic for thinking I could do it lol.
This is exactly what I needed! I was working on a scarf with alternating panels of Knit and crochet. The directions didn't really tell me exactly how to switch from C to K. The photos were (of course) right handed. I am a total leftie. Normally I can turn things "inside out and backwards" in my mind with no problem. This time it made no sense. The written directions were not clear. Watching your demonstration showed me instantly what I was supposed to do! Instant LIGHTBULB over my head! Now I can go back and start it again and it will work perfectly! THANK YOU!
I like switching to a knit ribbing on the cuffs of my gloves and mittens sometimes. Bind offs always leave such a nice row to throw a crochet hook into. It's fun doing combination projects. It can take time due to experimentation, but that's part of the fun.
Happy to have found this because I've been experimenting with both. To start, I have added knit straps to crochet bags. Then to deal with a shrug knit sleeve that was rolling despite several rows of garter stitch, I added cross stitch crochet border. Now I have started another bag that is made of squares (middle section of each square is 4 x 4 in knit and then added two rows of crochet around to make a unique, sturdy granny square). Oh the possibilities!
I just finished my first knitting project and used my crochet hook to do the bind off (not the typical crocheted bind off, btw, but the “easy lace bind off”, which was very similar to a single crochet). It was SO much easier than manipulating the stitches with my knitting needles. I couldn’t resist continuing on and adding a crocheted edging to my knitted shawl. Though I did the bind off with a similarly sized hook, I went up several sizes to do two rows of HDC V-stitch. Turned out beautifully and now I’m motivated to continue to combine the two crafts. Thanks for the tips!
Hello I really enjoy your presentations. Yes, I made a few projects combining crochet and knitting. I like to knit the shirt, and leave about 3-5" for a crochet border. I love it lacy and it makes every simply knitted shirt, into an elegant airy shirt at the end. I prefer to add the crochet to the knitting rather than the knitting to crochet. Although, last project I worked the other way around and the results surprised me in their beauty. I prefer always to use a smaller size hook than the knitting needles, because the crochet is wider and has more volume, and if I don't intend to make ruffles, I use one or two sizes down with the crochet hook. BTW, I tried without the bind off but instead to crochet the stitches from the needle. I think it's better. Thanks again, I'm looking forward to listen to more of your tutorials. Yael
I made two different baby blankets, knitting the body then adding crocheted boarders. I got fancy with the second one: tumbling blocks knit pattern then a crocheted butterfly boarder and finished off with a type of scalloped edge. I used sport weight on size 7 needles but don’t remember the hook size. I have a beautiful full set of Chiaogoo interchangeables but a motley collection of hooks, one of these days I will get a proper set even if it is just me collecting one of each size in a single place.
I recently made a C2C blanket and thought about throwing a knitted border together on it. Glad I didn’t die to size, but certainly a thought for future projects.
I made a pill hat with an extra bulky yarn. The side was a simple garter stitch about 6" wide, at 21" length. I crocheted up the ends to create a back seam. I then crocheted the knitted edge, reducing stitches after each round. It had a stiff flat top and was super warm!
I do alot of combining primary when doing edges and fluffy fringe for baby booties. Decorative spike yarn is much easier to crochet the knit for me. Thanks for the video of combining rows. ❤
This is great! I just finished making a cabled headband, and wanted to turn it into a cowl, with crochet on both sides,(so that the cable is going horizontal) so I did a quick search to see if anyone else was doing this kind of thing, and there you were! Thanks!
Found you because my sister suggested crochet for the shawl project I designed to include an inset motif. It turned out horribly in just knitting because the runs were so long and I didn't handle them well, so she's offered to teach me crochet at Christmas and I was really hoping I could do the motif in crochet and the shawl in knit. ❤
I crocheted sleeves on a knitted sweater once simply because I dislike knitting sleeves. Turned out okay for my yarnchoice (a fluffy thick yarn which was hard to see individual stitches) I'm thinking of combining them in my scrap blanket yarn too, just to mix it up!
I found this very helpful because I’m trying out beautiful bernadetta scarves that have a wild combination of stitches, yarns and a combination of crochetting and knitting. Thank you!!!🙏🏽
Some people have been doing knitting and crochet for many years, it's good you have shown them this but, remember this isn't new thing taunsian crochet has been around for long time, enjoy your information. Look forward to seeing more of your precious projects I'm knitting and crochet for new granddaughter. Thank you from across the pond.
I found a yoke neck sweater that is crochet, but I think the sleeves and body would look nicer in knit. Your video starts makes me know this is possible. Thank you.
Good video and very timely as I am planning to do a headband that is a crochet mosaic pattern, but wanted to have knitting on the back side. Thank you for your help.
Years ago I made a spaghetti strap top, knitted, with an addition of crochet lace spider type pattern at the top. Straps were crochet also, because they dont stretch that way.
Great video!! I searched for info on this topic earlier last yr and could not find anything. This is definitely helpful and inspirational. Thank you so much!
Left handed. I have no problem with S twist! ZZ twist, I tried, and it unwraps on me. Now I know what righties were complaining about. B, you're great, but I think I need a fety crochet guru. Heehee
I love your videos I learned how to knit first and am teaching myself to crochet so still feel like a newbie in both areas but your explanation in both areas is great TY 😊 I see you use Furls a bit in your videos are they becoming your go to hook?
Great idea, thank you. Would it work if I don't cast off stitches after knitting, and starting crocheting directly into each knitted stitch by working a sc, dc, etc.?
How do you mean? In crochet you just have one loop, if you don’t bind of the knitting you have lots of loops. But in general, I try things I can’t find info on all the time.
Is it normal to lose a stitch each time you go back and forth between knit and crochet? That either happens, or if I manage not to, it bulges on one side.
I tried going directly from knitting to Tuisian. I put the active yarn on the left and pulling what I had until the right knitting needle held the stitches. Then I pulled each loop onto my hook. I then did the standard return pass (ch 1, ch 1 pull through 2, ch 1 pull through 2, etc.) I didn’t love the way it looked but you might!

Thanks for this episode because I’ve been thinking 🤔 of how I could do both knitting and crochet for a sweater.

Thank you for sharing what you've learned. You answered the questions I still had after watching this video. 🙏😊
I combined knit and crochet when making mittens. I did a knit cuff for its strength and crochet for a thicker and warmer fabric for the fingers.
I made two different baby blankets, knitting the body then adding crocheted boarders. I got fancy with the second one: tumbling blocks knit pattern then a crocheted butterfly boarder and finished off with a type of scalloped edge. Thank you for this simple but very lovely description I thought I couldn’t mix them thank once again
Brilliant. I used to do this years ago and forgot about it! Ty for sharing
sheer genius - well shown thank you!
Just what I was looking for, thank you for posting
wow. The combination of crochet and knitting is surely interesting. Now i know how. Thank you so much for this great tutorial .

Never learned to knit, maybe when I get caught up I will give it a try. Enjoyed the info
i love this idea and this is motivating and interesting to watch especially seeing that it’s a 2 year old video

Wonderful!
Girl, you read my mind!!! 😃🙌🏻😄
Thank you I will try, that is great help
Thanks. Great vdo. Cottonandcloud also did this 8 years ago.

Oh Brittany, you just got my wheels turning now.
Great video!! I searched for info on this topic earlier last yr and could not find anything. This is definitely helpful and inspirational. Thank you so much!
Amazing work,,I'd enjoy your videos,,this is how I actually make my hats,,they turn out really,,
Game changer for sure thanks

Love this, can't wait to try it!
Have fun!
Very helpful video Thankyou
Thank you for this post. I've been pondering how I might make that happen. You made it much easier. :)
This is AWESOME!!! TY!!!!!!!! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜💖
You are genial. Thank you for this video :-).
Since zz is discontinued can u recommend a comparable yarn that has the same look and feel?
Question how to i attach 1x1 ribing to crochet? Its going to be the neck piece for a sweater.
Do you think you might suggest some patterns that have combination knit and crochet? Or do we have to create our own?
I love your videos I learned how to knit first and am teaching myself to crochet so still feel like a newbie in both areas but your explanation in both areas is great TY 😊 I see you use Furls a bit in your videos are they becoming your go to hook?
I've used knitting and crochet together I made a freeform scarf

I’m glad I’m not crazy. I just used my crochet hook to do my bind off on a shawl and I ended up with one less stitch.
I would try with a knit brim
Mind if I ask what kind of knitting needles are those?
That is so cool. Thank you.
🤔 I’ve been trying to think of a way to combine knitting and macramé for a sweater...
Ooooh, that sounds intriguing!
That’s what I do!!!
How about incorporating Tunisian crochet?
Petra Piciacchia I like to use Tunisian crochet in my crochet projects.
I've tried this too. I haven't come up with any projects yet. I feel like I know enough knitting now that I can start playing around with this.
Oooo
