Everything is an opinion right, but this is a type of content I really like, unit and mechanics breakdowns for these new games, getting it in before all the wikis get spun up, and just an individual thought process on how to approach games, in this case how you approach RTS
Love this type of stuff. It's always so hard to really get a feel for what is even happening when you're just watching casts with no context from people who barely understand the game themselves. For those of us who can't play the game right now this is probably the next best thing we're going to get to be able to at least understand what we're looking at when seeing other people play or cast games.
I've watched a lot of gameplay from different streamers of this but honestly, it's very much to take in. This video helps a lot though, to get a better grip on how the game works and what everything is. I do worry that there are too many things implemented and when things are figured out, a big part of all those things will be obsolete and unused. I am well aware that this is alpha gameplay so only time will tell how it goes. Thanks for the vid!
I had the same thought about the quantity of features. It contrasts with Stormgate where each mechanic seems to be very carefully chosen. But on the other hand, even if the meta eventually disregards many features, maybe those features will manage to find niche uses and shake up the game in different cheeses and surprise attacks. They could also "rotate" certain mechanics in and out by nerfing and buffing their significance. Kind of like how mobas approach balance and design with their breadth of heroes.
I am so happy to be seeing Artosis and Tasteless on a more consistent basis. I've met them both, and I've followed them since as early as I can remember in the SC world.
I want to play Legion just for the Terror tank. So cool... But dude, the Grell man. Their readability in-game must be rough. Visually, they're all just close variations of, "I am a bug with multiple legs, that hunches over, and has my back pointed to the sky." Imagine 100 of these guys... Telling those units apart in the middle of a fight must be a nightmare.
I heard from PiG's stream that Legion is getting some more units because their current roster is still unfinished and pretty limited. I think they're getting a fast mount which can be mounted by a thrall like the night elves in Warcraft 3 and something else I can't remember.
@@Bagginsess Who cares if it looks like that. I am sure you've dropped a lot of games (or didn't try them) with cool features because they didn't pass the vibe check

Great guide Arty! I think it’s really good that you are helping to provide engagement for these games with the SC2 community. I would love to see you do a Beyond All Reason video next please!!
At first I thought the Legion looked a bit too similar to Protectorate, but it's really cool how different they actually are, mechanically. I wasn't entirely sold on the unit design of the game until the fucking Terror Tank with turrets on top. That's hype.
I get that Legion is WIP and all that stuff, but oh boy, that tech tree cracked me up. I lowkey want it to stay that way, terror tanks being able to upgrade into every single battlefield role (like scout or flyer) would be hilarious
The best RTS games are a shining example of complexity via simplicity. This game is like one of those board games in which that one guy has to take 30 minutes just to explain how all of the little levelling xp and energy, talent builds... and how all of the other 20 mini systems work in the game. I just don't think I can do it.

Very cool factions! As a Protoss player, not sure how much I like the concept of the Legion. Neat weapons upgrades for the buildings and tank, but its unfortunate that they don't have more units.

And my gripe with the industry as a whole is that every goddamn RTS, that aspires to be seriously competitive, looks the same. And on top of that, it looks silly. It's cartoony and units often look like kids' toys. At least from WoL onward, it's progressively getting more and more goofy, almost cutesy looking. Here the (not)Zerg are all about flowers and mother nature! And not even in a Venus fly trap, deep jungle vines sort of plant theme, but str8 up pleasant meadows and whatnot. . I don't think the kids like this. I am sure they test hell out of the style and design on test groups in those huge projects. It's just we are kids of 90s and have our own idea of coolness, which was largely influenced by Hollywood of 80s 90s 2000s that's just it

This game will be impossible to balance properly. So many options but my 2 cents are that people will figure out which is the optimal play and the other options will fade.
While top games will certainly boil down to the best mercanaries for your faction; I do we think we will see some different mercenaries in different match-ups and not the same combo all the time. It might actually make balancing on top level easier, as if mercenary X is used solely for faction A against B but not against faction C; you could buff mercenary X to improve the match-up against faction B without the buff affecting the match-up against C as top players use mercenaries Y against them. Kinda how buffs to BW bio would change the match-up against Zerg a lot, but hardly change anything against Protoss; or a Carrier buff would change PvT but not really PvZ.

a lot of development time could have been saved if they just made it in the sc2 arcade lol
That doesn't make any sense, why would you attach yourself to a dying game and community? Legion TD started out as a SC2 Arcade game, but they eventually made their own standalone game on Steam. The same thing happened with Dota starting out as a community map in WC3 but eventually becoming its own thing. Stormgate decided to make their own engine instead of making a map on the SC2 Arcade.
@@SchemingGoldberg using examples of when people used mods/maps/arcades as a reason to argue why people shouldnt use the sc2 arcade is bold lmao
Artososuuuuuuu, these games are not good re file... Brood war is better, they just need to fix some new good maps and fix the fakin ladder because it is a total mess with all smurfs
The Big question: no exists Game better than sc brood war, really? 😆
