hey I really like your content here, especially that you have 120k on the supercharged BRZ. I'm looking at selling my VW ALLTRACK APR for something a little more enjoyable. I came off of a TDI and before that a series of STI/WRX/s2k. I find the VW to feel very dead and lifeless, and even though very fast with just software, I am old now and don't really use it.
Thank you for checking out the video! Sorry for the late response, UA-cam alert thing is not very good.. I am now driving an AP2 S2000, as I think this is more of the car I wanted (although I am now having to prep the car heavily to pass safety requirements for track days). What kind of "fun" are you looking for? If it's the old school feel from hydraulic steering and instant throttle response, I think it's hard to beat the E46 M3..
Own mine for 7 years now going 8. All I can say is I still love it despite the fact that it’s not fast. It has never given up on me to this very day. Even when boosted on steroid.
I couldn't keep my foot planted on the track even before adding the supercharger. People say it's a slow car, bit in the end, it was still faster than my driving skills.
The vehicle was engineered to be driven hard. Even top gear, professional drivers have stated this is one of the best handling cars you can buy besides a lotus or venturing into the realm of 6 figures. Subaru/Toyota just release info on the 2021 brz/86 & said adding forced induction would add more weight further degrading the vehicles driving dynamics. I have driven them before there is no reason the average person needs forced induction besides going straight.

Due to torque rating, I believe the base Jackson kit was right at the limit of the stock clutch. I'd assume with turbo you're probably better off upgrading. My biggest concern was heat management as these cars already run pretty hot, but thankfully the Jackson kit comes with the Setrab oil cooler, and it's designed to work with the whole kit from scratch. I left some overhead and was thinking eventually I'd upgrade to the bigger supercharger (and at that point I'd need bigger injectors and the whole nine yards) but I never felt like I needed more power :)
I like your spoiler, which model is it? What are your typical fuel economy numbers with that supercharger? I want to add forced induction when mine turns 5 and goes off warranty!
It's a SARD rep. I got it used from a friend and I painted just the top. I'm seeing high teens in mpg stuck in southern California traffic, but definitely worth it when I go WOT :)
I think the best alternative would be a 1SS or 2SS. Also a maybe a 1LE for the same price bracket. Camaros are great daily drivers and great on the track
I do like the American grunt. I'm kind of poor though, so consumables like tires and brakes go faster on the bigger/heavier cars on the track unfortunately, which would kill the deal for me. If I had it all my way, a split window Corvette would be on the driveway as a choice of a muscle car for me :) Thanks for checking out the video!
I've heard good things about it, but I don't think it's CARB legal here in California? I've been out of the brz/86 game so I could be wrong.. the usual choice for a twinscrew set up here is the Edelbrock.
Do you still get instant power/low end torque with the JRSC? I have the Innovate SC right now and I'm just wondering how better of an upgrade it would be if I went with a Centrifugal SC.
Response? Nope. But you get way more top end, it's almost night and day in my opinion. Also, for me personally, I felt like the twinscrew set up was really heavy, like I could feel it when driving the car, but the Jackson set up was not that noticable (smaller package, air cooled vs water cooled, etc). Id say if you want response and the top end (and you don't feel like you're lugging a lot of weight with the twinscrew set up), I'd go with the Edelbrock kit.
I didn't drive it too hard on the streets, just on the track. I did do WOT once in a while. As for maintenance, just routine oil changes on the motor diff, and transmission. Biggest bothering points were the problems mentioned in the video :( I hear that the second gen car is much more refined and reliable.

It's rly strange because I didn't have issues with my original motor. I did replace it with a 2015 engine with 1000 miles, and it had cam gear issues so I had to get that fixed to get rid of rough idle (car would shake real bad during idle and even stall at times) and it had a weird leak that I had to wipe up every so often (didn't see a massive oil consumption or anything like that but a definite leak from somewhere). I did drive on the track here and there so obviously it saw more abuse than an usual BRZ/FRS, but yes, it does seem to have some issues. Check out the links in my description.
