When Elvis goes into his highest range, I've never seen it done more naturally. Most singers when they sing in falsetto you can feel the strain in their voices. Elvis is effortless when he does it. Just one more thing that made him so great.

An interesting thing to consider when discussing Elvis is that he was as popular with men as with women: quite extraordinary, if you think about it.
Someone so incredibly handsome and charismatic would normally have boyfriends / husbands, and men in general, hate him on principle. The answer, I believe, was his humility and self-deprecation. Unlike most “Rock Stars”, when Elvis pulls a rock star strut, he clearly laughs at himself and shares the joke with his audience and his band. Undeniably genuine too.
That aside, it was, as alluded, that no one has ever conveyed the emotion within a song like Mr P. A lovely day to all.

Elvis worked with the best musicians and backing singers. They all watched him like hawks to be ready for any spontaneous addition to the performance. He orchestrated the whole show with movements and flourishes. Love your deep appreciation of the depth of Elvis’s talent. James Burton is his guitarist who still tours today in his own right. You often hear Elvis say “ take it away James” in many of his songs.
You have a portfolio of over 700 songs recorded by Elvis to listen to!! Listen to his personal favourites, his Gospel songs , to really. Hear him perform with his heart and soul👌💕🕺🙏

I cry thru half his songs. No one can hit my heart strings like Elvis. I think a lot came from his feeling alone even in a crowd of people. They said Elvis was very alone all his life. This was from a lot if his girlfriends and even Priscilla said he complained a lot of that feeling. Thank you so much for your comments. Love to hear them.

When Elvis feels the emotion of a song it just goes right to our own feelings. A special gift also really apparent when he sings gospel. Also really comes through when telling a story in a song. He does that so well in a song like "Kentucky Rain" It's audio only but that voice still comes through, Thanks so much for these wonderful reactions.

Hi Mike, this is just how I feel about the world today and only Elvis can touch the heart and soul the way he does and I am listening to your voice about hearing it before, never get enough of Elvis , The Total Package, The voice, charisma, charm and humor as well as the fact that he is a Priceless Gift from God and The most Beautiful MAN who ever was , he made you feel like he was singing Just to you and I saw him 2 yrs later in April 8 72 in Knoxville Tennessee and I was only 8 years old, had been in love with him since I was a tiny little girl, the movie's meant so much to me and the three concerts were unforgettable and believe me when I say that when you hear him sing on video , you've heard nothing, this was a man who was not only the greatest entertainer ever, but he was the conductor and Director and he treated his TCB band members like family, members and you will never hear anything from them about the way he was, just a simple Man who actually did have the world on his shoulders, he electrified the world in a way that will never happen again, Thanks Mike for another great reaction to Elvis, I like the sentiment you share with All of the Elvis family and we appreciate it so much , just like our Beautiful MAN Among Men Elvis forever and Always TCB 1935

Thank you for this. Elvis' phrasing was, to say the least, unique. So too, every era was unique, & within each era from year to year there were changes such as his voice, his deliverance. I always say he never did the same thing 2ce, never repeated himself -- his performances weren't "cookie cutter" performances & you would never know what you would get from him.

Excellent tune. This was the night after (8/13/70), one of Elvis' greatest performances of his career. So even though Elvis said during this show he wasn't feeling well and he was a bit drained, he delivered a gem here. Your takes are so unique, fresh and insightful. I am one of those folks who have seen this performance several hundred times. Somewhere in my Top 100.

Love, love, love Elvis' performance here. I grew up loving Elvis' movies and recordings, but there's nothing, absolutely nothing, that compares with a live Elvis performance. I think it was B. B. King who said something like Elvis sang like he meant it. And that's so true. For a young probably preteen, I could readily imagine Elvis singing right to me. And I agree with you about the caricaturizing of Elvis. And through the years, that made me very, very sad. Even though Austin Butler was robbed of an Oscar, the movie did bring Elvis to the forefront of media attention and subsequently through UA-cam to people too young to remember him in real time. Elvis was a tremendously talented person in music and movies. Although never credited, he produced the songs he sang. We see tantalizingly little of the rehearsals leading to the Vegas shows where he knows exactly the sound he wants from the instruments and the backup singers. I want to see so much more of that. While he said in an interview many of the movies made him physically sick because Hollywood packaged him "as they saw him instead of how he saw himself." But he did carry those movies. He was a good dramatic actor and had a natural sense of comedy that seemed so effortless. I don't think he got enough credit throughout his career. Unfortunately for Elvis, he was one of the good guys. Fulfilling contracts he really didn't want to do because the Colonel told him so. If he just would have taken control and insisted on the things he wanted, he may have been happier and lived a whole lot longer.

Your commentary on your Elvis reactions are so inspiring. You are such an eloquent gentleman. I do not know if anyone has told you that. But you are definitely in your wheelhouse here. One of the finest reactions I have ever watched! Bravo!
Moving on: The ruralness I think how you put it is what caught my attention during your reaction particularly.
Instead of giving a hum- drum explanation I'll just give you the song info below:
"Make the World Go Away'" is a country pop song composed by Hank Cochran. It has become a Top 40 popular success three times: for Timi Yuro (1963), Eddy Arnold (1965), and the brother-sister duo Donny and Marie Osmond (1975). The original version of the song was recorded by Ray Price in 1963.
In 1999, the 1965 Eddy Arnold version of the song on RCA Records was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
    History
Hank Cochran wrote the song while he was on a date at a movie theater in 1960 when the film inspired him. He left the theater quickly, and by the time he got home fifteen minutes later had composed "Make the World Go Away".
Ray Price recorded the song, and it scored No.2 on the Billboard country charts in 1963. The next year Eddy Arnold would make the song his signature hit, scoring No. 1 on the country music charts and then in 1965 No. 6 on the overall Billboard Hot 100 chart (his highest rated song ever).
Cochran was already a successful songwriter, having written two successes for Patsy Cline: "I Fall to Pieces" (with Harlan Howard) and "She's Got You". "Make the World Go Away" was recorded first by Ray Price and was one of Price's first songs to feature an orchestra and female chorus, a trend that continued with other songs like "Burning Memories" and "For the Good Times".
Price's album peaked at No. 2 on the country chart and No. 100 on the album chart.
Thank you so very much for just sharing your honest thoughts. Please keep doing what you are doing. You have a talent you know. I'm so glad your channel was recommended to me.
Peace & blessings to you & yours!

You should listen to Elvis' early 60's recordings when he reached his vocal peak. His cadence, vibrato and annunciation was in top form from studying opera during his Army stint and also being in the best shape of his life. Still the greatest vocalist in the world here.

A vocal coach I hold dear said to me about Elvis: I don't know what to say about him really, he does nothing by the book. He follows no rules. He just seems to sing as he sees fit.
The weird thing is that by him doing that it sounds better than anything you'd ever think of. I put it down to that incredible voice...but stil.. In his youth he got the question who he sounded like. Elvis answered: "I don't sound like anybody else".
    How right he was.

The shame of Elvis is that so many people hear his name and only think of his rock & roll songs from the 50s. There is so much more to him. His live performances are so incredible with so much emotion, that people often think his ballads, such as this, are about priscilla. "Pleading" is the word I always use. Elvis emphasizes the emotion by his body movements, such as bending over. You can feel the pain.
    Great review.

I became an Elvis fan in early 1961. To this day I cannot stand listening to songs where I cannot understand the lyrics. Is that because Elvis was my first, and to be honest, my only rock star crush? Did his beautifully articulated lyric delivery spoil me for most other singer, particularly so in the rock genre? In the 80s before song lyrics were readily available, I hand wrote the lyrics to about 80% of Elvis songs. In fact, I only threw the folder out 2 years ago!

Hi Mike, once again you synthesise the essence of this Elvis performance so brilliantly, picking up things that I perhaps no longer see/hear due to familiarity, or dare I say, I never previously noted. I particularly like your reference to the emotional plea in Elvis voice. There is a famous story of Elvis shooting out a television set while Robert Goulet was on it. One thing Elvis really, really hated is crooner type singers with all the technique in the world but without so much as a grain of emotional connection to the song. Elvis regarded these singers as lazy, selling their audience short.
