- I bought this one-owner 1967 Mercury Commuter station wagon from its original owner last week. It had been sitting in his garage for over a decade. Now, my job is to bring it back around. Let's do this!

The one real, indisputable beauty of working on an old Ford V8 engine: distributor located on the very front of the engine!
@@brianandrews7099 Ya know, you're right! lol
Thanks for watching and commenting!
And the the two center manifold tubes are not joined together in an unholy union.
@@nonadabove An "unholy union". LOL!!!!
Okay so the reason why your remote starter button failed.... It's because you're supposed to cross over the solenoid not go straight to the starter wire..... Next time try pouring gas in the float bowl vent so that you actually fill up the float bowl instead of just flooding the air horn that way it will idle for a minute...... You don't see all the metal in the tank because it all fell down in the fuel filler hose..... And if you want to know what's wrong will the fuel system blow down the fuel line to see if you hear bubbles in the tank.... If you don't it's a blocked fuel line or a pickup sock now replace that fuel pump and start that thing like you mean it
@@mixrmandd How much do I owe you? lol
Thanks for watching and commenting!
You do have a fuel filter. It is the piece that the fuel line was attached to, to the carburetor. Also most likely the fuel in the tank has turned to varnish. You night want to try hooking your gas can to the fuel pump.
@@theprinceofsnj I realized it had a filter right after I recorded that segment! I'm not used to seeing them integrated into the carb (I'm normally a Holley guy). lol
I'll be using a boat tank with an electric pump until my new fuel pump arrives. I'll also check the gas tank to see if it's usable. I'm assuming it's not. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@mohawkgarage That's OK I'm a bit of a Ford Man myself. You can get the gas tank cleaned, and any leaks repaired.
@@theprinceofsnj I'm at the parts store getting some parts right now. She will be back on the road soon!
@@mohawkgarage I'm looking forward to the next video
@@theprinceofsnj I appreciate your support!
Hope you get it on the road nice wagon
@@fredbalandran3182 I've been making progress. It won't be long! Thanks for watching and commenting!
“ IT AINT GOT NO GAS!”
@@peterbenson3776 Absolutely! The story of my life! Ha! Thanks for watching and commenting!
BTW, now I want a mess of fried taters!
If you haven't figured it out by now the fuel pump more than likely is shot, after an engine has sat for awhile the diaphragm inside is shot, I learned that from experience on a '73 International pickup I was working on almost thirty years ago.
@rogercamp6071 Great minds think alike! I already have a new pump in hand. I ordered it the day I got the car! lol
I figure I'll run the engine off of a boat tank and an electric pump for a few minutes to make sure everything sounds right. The next project it to remove the gas tank and clean it. I'm making progress! It's going slowly because I've been dodging thunderstorms here in Florida. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@mohawkgarage don't feel lonely, I'm in South Carolina and we're having heat, storms and humidity and my temperature is running around the same as yours is.
@@rogercamp6071 I've noticed that most of the country is experiencing intense heat. Stay cool and keep watching!
4° verificar a eletrica... Platinado e condensador e todo o chicote elétrico.
12° SEJA FELIZ... ACELERE E APROVEITE À VIDA...😊😊
I've been bringing it back slowly and carefully. It ran and idled perfectly today, but the carburetor needs a rebuild. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Frame is a great filter it's all I use
@@SamVictor-ld7rm I normally use them, too. Since I change oil often, and I have quite a fleet, I'm constantly changing oil and filters. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Obama did that with the gas cans😂😂😂😂😂
@@rayphillips332 I'm not gonna get political about it, but I sure would like a can that works properly. This design is useless. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I call that a win!
@Galona223 It was a good day! I'm gonna try to drive it in the next video. It all depends on my ability to get parts. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I love the wagon, it's cool as ice. I think it's a 390? They were good regular performance ford big blocks. Great for everyday street driving
Yep, it's a 390! I can't wait to take it for a cruise. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@mohawkgarage yeah, I think I commented on one of your videos when you got it. I love different cars, but actually back in the 60s to 80s wagons were the bread and butter cars that got the job done. Millions of people across this country have so many memories of these wagons that can't be replaced. Everything from weddings to funerals. To camping trips.
@bighank796 I totally agree. Much of my childhood happened around wagons. Vacations, school, trips to relatives' houses, etc. Once you sit in an old wagon, memories rush back. It's magical.
@@mohawkgarage I wish you well with wagon, I will look forward to your videos and will subscribe if I am already not
@@bighank796 I truly appreciate that. I hope you enjoy the future videos!
Just a tip for when you do get it running. Pull the spare tire and take a look at where it sits. This is the first place the car will start to rust. Our 65 Commuter got so bad you could see the spare from outside the car…..
@@doug8525 Excellent tip. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Do you use a lead additive in the gasoline?
@joeo7257 Yeppers, I added a bottle to the jug that I'm using until the fuel lines are replaced. Progress is slow but steady. Rebuilding the carburetor tomorrow. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Engine sounds nice
@@Jstme303 Thank you! I'm very excited about driving it!
If I ever get another car it would have to be a 60s car that I can work on the new cars you can't even see the engine.... is this pre-computer in your car that everybody don't really need
@@LetArtsLive Much of the computer-operated cars came in the 1980s, so this car is well before that. I love its simplicity. Thanks for watching and commenting!
When installing new points always clean the points faces as they are boxed with a smear of oil on them to stop rusting
@@howardgoold5774 Very good tip. Thanks for watching and commenting on the video!
i like this car..my uncle bought a new 67 merc and this exact color a 2 door hard top..,,the motor did sound good...before you drive it maybe look at the timming..seems like the distributor looks a bit advanced to me
@@user-bm8ei5ub1c I'll be confirming the timing and lots of other things over the next couple of weeks. It's getting there, though! Thanks for watching and commenting!
How much will this car be worth when it's done??
@LetArtsLive The most common answer is "what someone is willing to give," but that answer always frustrated me. My best answer is, I have no idea. I've not researched its value because I'm still learning about it and enjoying the process. How much would you guess? Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hell yes!
@@TierodMcslush Sweet victory is mine!
😀😀😀😀
@@bjtravelersRV I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching and commenting!
get yourself a used drink bottle with a screw on lid...,make a small hole in the center of it..fill it up with gas . screw the lid back on and use it as a squirt bottle to feed the motor,,also..notice those 2 tubes @10;52 in the video.right in front of the choke...if you squirt gas into either of those tubes or on top of the fuel bowl is a capped vent?..just move it to the side and squirt gas into it,,filling the fuel bowl and the car will run at least 30/45 seconds
@user-bm8ei5ub1c Yeah, I've rebuilt lots of carbs over the years. I'll be rebuilding this one, too. The next step on the wagon is to see if it will run with an electric pump and a gas can. Once I've done that, I'll be addressing the dirty gas tank. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Have you thought about having the gas tank drained or drain it yourself
@@user-fo9ri5dy7b I'll be doing that tomorrow! Thanks for watching and commenting!
The first thing you should have done is clean the gas tank. SMFH
@@tboman4128 It's not running off of the gas tank. Thanks for watching and commenting!
