Love the videos! I’ve been watching and listening for so long I feel like you guys are my friends. I’ve started hop standing all of my beers and like the results. I think it gives my brews a great hop flavor without the chlorophyll taste of dry hops that can ruin a good beer. Cheers!

This sounds like a great beer. I've never done a hopstand before but I am curious to try it now. Nice video. Thanks.

Nice video, have enjoyed watching you for several years now, I wish I knew all I know about brewing beer and it was 1978 (I would be 17 again). Thanks you two always fun to watch.

Glad you like our stuff! I was 13 in 1978. Not nearly as fun as 17. :-) Cheers! - James

I made a lager with lemon drop and Calypso hops. It was wonderful. Great hop.

Excellent! Just bought some Lemon drop last week on a whim when I noticed it was available here in the UK. Also picked up some eukanot!

I love the Couffe yeast for big Belgian ales, blondes, tripels and dark strong alike.

Great looking beer James. I'm about to build a system that is essentially a clone of the high gravity system. (Will be doing a video of the build of course 😉) I do find it interesting the extra volume of water because a lot of people using that Brewing method talk about lower efficiency with a larger grain bill. You might be onto something there. I do love electric Brewing just the same as you you have a lot of control over the process. Thanks for the great info and video! 👍🍻

Nice video, as usual! Now that you've started to use the csi candi syrups it would be intetesting to see something with their darker products, since you have used so many different other dark sugars in the past.

Right on point, I got a golden strong ale currently laggering at the moment, used pilsner and 18% sugar in two addition FO and post pitch. With the stepped up dregs from 3 bottles Maredsous/Duvel. 1,078 to 1,005 ([under]pitched at 20 finished at 26c)in 7 days then kegged. For the lemony I used motueka even If I didn't use it that late in the boil or did a stand it still impart a bright lemony flavor to the beer in the first sample I took.
I would be very curious to compare the lemondrop vs motueka in something lighter for the summer though, even if I never saw it sold in Spain yet.
    Cheers for the video.

By the way do you think it's worth it to use the light srm CSI candy syrup products vs plain table sugar ?

I might try a no boil extract ipa, and keeping it at "hopstand" temperature for 15-30 mins

How are you able to tell the ABV? Do they have a testing kit for that? I am curious to know what the carb count would be as well.

You can put the starting and finishing gravities into a calculator like this:

Help! Brewer's Friend is saying I got 93% efficiency for this recipe pre-boil (7.25 gallons and 1.057 SG), this can't be right. Any thoughts would be hugely appreciated!!

After you mashed you pulled the grain bag out on the kettle to boil the volume down correct? I just wanted to make sure I understood how you did this beer because I've never done all grain yet. I do know that the beer you made should be more a dry style which seems very appropriate for the style as I recently had a lemon ginger Sasion by Platform Brewery and it was amazing.

    • @basicbrewing

Yes. After the mash, take out the grain bag and start heating the water for the boil. Brew in a Bag is easy and a lot of fun. - James

Hi James and Steeve, nice hopstand video. Have you guys ever tried a Priming hops approach? I am curious about how this could replace a Dry Hop for a small batch. Thanks for the videos!

I made this recipe today with four modifications: (1) I couldn't get Imperial yeast, so I used WLP550 with a 2 stage yeast starter to get up to the proper cell concentration (2x 1.5L 5.4oz light DME); (2) I started with 9 gallons of water so I could use 1 gallon for sparging; (3) I added a mash out step at 170F then sparged with the 1 gallon of reserved water; finally (4) I added yeast nutrient and 1/2 a whirlflow at 5 minutes. I'm very excited to try the beer when it's ready as this was also the first time using the BIAB system Bobby from BrewHardware.com built for me....

The Imperial Organic Yeast did very well with this beer, but you could probably substitute other Belgian strains. Just be sure to make a starter. - James

Ok, I'm a little slow. You say boil 1 1/2 hours before you time the actual boil time. Is that after the grain bag is removed to lower water content? I need pictures! 😁
