      How required are Onions for this? I'm onion intolerant to the point it makes me deeply ill.

      @@MrDementedninja If you really don't like onions that much, it's better to leave them out. You'll lose the sweetness and the tenderizing effect that onions provide, but it should still turn out delicious.

    For anybody outside of Japan, frozen hotpot meat works well for this recipe as its already very thinly sliced

      Thank you for your comment! There are often two main reasons why the meat becomes tough.
      1) Cooking over high heat
      Simmer slowly over low heat.
      2) Using lean or thick cuts of meat
      Choose thin cuts of meat with more marbling.
      Also, try the method of covering the meat with onions and ginger.
      If you follow the recipe closely, it should turn out delicious!

      If you freeze the meat once and then cut it while it's partially thawed, it will be easier to slice thinly. Choose parts with more fat, and don't forget to cook them slowly over low heat. :)

    can we change the mirin and sake to soda ?

    • @jpcookingichie
      @jpcookingichie  Місяць тому

      Soda cannot be used as a substitute for mirin and sake. If you cannot use alcohol, it's better to make the dish without adding soda or any substitutes for mirin and sake, as it will turn out tastier.

    This looks awesome and I want to make it today. What if I want to make double the amount of meat, do I need to double the ingredients?

    • @jpcookingichie
      @jpcookingichie  2 місяці тому

      Thank you for your comment! If you only want to double the amount of meat, it’s okay to increase the other ingredients by about 1.5 times. If you want to double the entire recipe, please prepare double the amount of all the ingredients. Leftover gyudon can be stored and will taste even better as the flavors soak in. Your comments encourage me to keep posting videos! I hope you succeed in making it perfectly!

    What is a good substitute for sake?

    • @jpcookingichie
      @jpcookingichie  2 місяці тому +2

      Japanese sake or dry white wine with an alcohol content of around 15% is recommended as a substitute for cooking sake. If possible, it’s best to avoid leaving it out, but if neither is available, it’s fine to proceed without cooking sake.
