The only correct Oblivion take is: "Oblivion sucks,It's my favorite game"

Elder scrolls games are like being in an abusive relationship
People will point out all his flaws and other options, and no matter how right they are we always go back because for some unexplained reason we still love him.

Compairing oblivion to skyrim is an insult, in any small fashion… Skyrim is a joke. No stat buffs from leveling up skills only perks, less skill lines, no attributes, no hand to hand.
And a horrendous leveling system, that has you combating nothing but Death overlords, for daring to improve smithing or speach craft… (beter yet this horid trait here, continues into all fail out 4, they don’t remedy these horrid trates but double down

Oblivion DB absolutely smokes Skyrim DB as well. Actually every Oblivion guild is better than it's Skyrim counterpart. Daedric quests are closer in quality but I still think Oblivion's are better.

Don't forget the mages guild! You can actually craft custom spells in Oblivion, completely scrapped from Skyrim, a 'sequel' which somehow has less features in every way (other than OMG HUURRRR DRAG0NS!11) compared to its counterpart.

18:57 - I remember this weapon from Oblivion artifacts pack mod - it could be found in Embershard mine, it looked like regular iron battlexe, except the head painted red, and it made enemies UP TO LVL 100 flee from combat for 30 seconds. OP as f***. But it had only like 3 charges total...

As someone who actually read a tiny bit and was interested in the lore when I first played oblivion, I was also super interested in mankar's views, but when he started listing the deadric princes and their realms and he gets basically all of it ass-backwards, I'm like, "oh so Dagon literally broke your brain, okay. Cool." And as a (usually) mage player, it's so gratifying to put him in his place with reflect spells, storm atronachs, even poisons, just pulling out all the stops. So good. Gods bless Terrence Stamp.

The best thing about Oblivion, IMO, is that the mere prospect of its existence made Sony seek From Software to create a game to compete with it and that resulted in Demon's Souls.
Edit: oh, yeah, the music is pretty good too.

interesting thing about the horse armor thing, this was the first elder scrolls on console, specifically just xbox, and microsoftcock wouldn't let Bethesda put out free content packs like in Morrowind and since they'd already spent the money to make them and the game was already on one disk, they ended up with this very unfortunate compromise

I personally fucking hate Oblivion. It was a HUGE disappointment to me when I played it, and it actually made me upset. Maybe I am taking these games too seriously. I have 2100+ in Skyrim and 900+ hours in Morrowind. But I only played Oblivion for like 125 hours. I think Oblivion is right between Skyrim and Morrowind in many aspects, but that actually makes it worse. I didn't get the depth and story of Morrowind or fun of just fucking around in Skyrim out of it. I could love it for its jank, but I didn't even get any funny glitches or moments that we see from videos on UA-cam. This is actually the thing that pains me the most.
    And especially Dark Brotherhood questline made me fume. I will not forgive anyone who recommended me that shit saying, "It's the best guild questline in all of Elder Scrolls." FUCK. NO. I was just so upset right at the quest where they {SPOILER ALERT}
killed Lucien Lachance that I didn't even finish that shit. Not because they killed a good character, but because I couldn't tell anyone that "HEY I FOUND A DISMEMBERED HEAD AND A CREEPY DIARY, THE CULPRIT IS SOMEONE ELSE." I just fucking hate Emmel Pagliaccio or whatever his name is. After that I just looked at their character ID's one by one, removed their essential status and just fucking killed all the Black Hand members, and never looked at it again.
Okay, end of the rant. Shivering Isles was actually really good, I might replay Oblivion just for that. But I will not touch the main quest or any of the guild questlines ever again. Also, the video was hilarious as always. I kinda had to rant about how much I hate Oblivion when I have the chance. Sorry about that. I can see that it is actually a pretty fun game, and I don't hate anyone for liking it. To each their own.
But its soundtrack is my favorite among the whole franchise. Like holy shit. And those 2006 graphics of landscapes still look pretty to me.

There are definitely some goofy writing moments in the DB questline. The fake dead drops are so obvious (different handwriting, completely different and more florid prose) but you can't do the sensible thing - notice it and report it to Lucien. And yes, the end of "Following a Lead" is contrived and doesn't let you do the things you obviously should be able to do (show the Black Hand the diary, confront the traitor with his mother's head).
Oblivion's quests are mostly linear and have little room for player agency. This usually isn't too bad but sometimes it forces the writing to do weird things to keep the plot going.
Tbh I think part of the reason the DB questline is so loved is the pre-Purification stuff is fantastic. There's a gradual drop in quality after the Purification. The people praising the DB quest writing to the sky are probably remembering the early stuff and forgetting the dodgy parts later on.
Still, even with the weaker parts, I think the DB quest writing is good overall. I'm willing to forgive the bad stuff because the good stuff really is just that good. The quest that really pisses _me_ off is Mages' Guild - Ulterior Motives. If you're gonna deprive the player of agency and force them to act stupid, _don't have an NPC smugly call the player stupid for doing the only thing they're allowed to do_ ! If you're gonna kick me in the balls then don't fart in my face as well...

Well people are rude to you in that game, and in morrowind because you have your weapons out, when you steath them then you'd have a better interaction with npcs, yea ya even through you just had your fist out still. Also morrowind is the best imo hah.
