Oh man, opening those boxes at the start was really cool. There's almost nothing more touching than a friend drawing one of your characters in a RPG. I still have some from a friend in college who sketched our whole party and I treasure them.
I've always wanted to "level up" my older board games, newer 3d printed minis, custom boards and terrain - just something to bring some of the 80s 90s and early 2000s games to the more modern era
I had no idea this game exsisted until 20 years ago when my mum gave me a copy she picked up from a charity shop for 50p.
I have great memories playing this with my brothers. And only recently i have introduced my kids to it. Absolutely great game.
The expansions are hard to find though and if you do find them they are pricey.
Boardgame Restoration? Finally a niche I can get behind.
I'm not a car person, but I can see the appeal of doing that, and this.
You should check out Always Board Never Boring. It's a channel focused on fantasy boardgames of a certain vintage and did a few video series of him Frankensteining complete sets and restoring beat up components and even boxes.

I see you've got The Mutant Chronicles back there. I've got a full set, minus the figures, in brand new condition if you need anything. I think even the box is good.

I started watching this channel around six years ago. I've noticed I seem to have developed a severe "trash" hoarding condition as a result. Whenever I get new appliances or tech I go glassy eyed at all the lovely packing foam and cardboard. Home waste is now sorted, not according to material type for recycling, but according to what I can make with it: Minis, Terrain, Sculptures, Misc. I got a mini 3d printer and have a nearly full Amazon box with enough waste support "trees" to make the actual Amazon forest three times over. 🤣
The struggle is real 😂. My Wife opened some garden wire and I was like "those rolls are perfect for tall Trees!"
It's even worse if you take Wyloch's advice and "keep everything." 😂
I just tossed so much because Im working 48 to 60hrs a week and just don't have the time.
I remember this game it is from Dark Eye a german role-playing games. They made 3 board games in this setting called Dark World and the set you have is called Dark World - Castle of Secrets and there was also Dark World - Village of Fear, and Dark World - Dragon's Gate. Chronologically dragon gate is first then village and castle is the last chapter. I had all of them as a kid, got the as a gift from my aunt and uncle from german so those sets were in the OG german lauguage.
Old board games has become one of my favorite alternatives to crafting videos from your channel.

I barely remember seeing that game on the shelves... here in germany it was themed after a roleplaying game named The Dark eye (Das Schwarze Auge, or short: DSA), and distributed by their publisher. aside that it looks the same. How I know? I found one on ebay shortly after you unpacked yours on video, and it looked fairly complete, too. paid like, 70 euros for it give or take... how it went to cypria of all places is beyond me. maybe someone moved there and brought it along and sold it eventually? I might never find out.
but it does look very nicely kept, maybe 90% complete? I haven't checked yet. nothign warped, only one wall is bent at one place, the box has only one real nick in an edge... and all in all it can be used as a RPG prop, too. ^^
I had a similar situation with Battlemasters, Hero Quest and Space Crusade about 10 years ago. Took a while to get everything back in good condition, but it was worth it. :-) Now I have everything painted to the standard I ever dreamed of as a child. Enjoy the ride, man!
Wow, been a long time since I played darkworld. I even recently got a replacement copy to replace one I had to abandon when I lost my childhood home. Sadly, my replacement copy is missing parts. Trying to find a new copy, I learned there were expansions! The town looks amazing! This board game got me into D&D and warhammer. Especially since KB toys had it all painted, man was i disappointed as a kid to find it not collored when i opened it lol.
I bought a copy of this game probably 30 years ago. It was complete and in pretty good condition. Sadly my game group didn't like it and I eventually sold it. Now I really regret that.
If you spray some water onto the board, then sandwich it between some felt and put weight on it, it SHOULD get rid of the warp.

I just dug into my old game, and childhood me did not like grownup me, all the minis were missing, all the weapons, dice and one door. Kids... lol

I think I have the complete board game still sitting at my parent's house. I used to play it as a kid.
3D scan the knight with something like Polycam, reprint it out on a 3D printer, then paint that one!

Since you plan on painting your dupes of the pieces, why don't you just make a resin cast of the one you are missing? After it's painted you'll never know the difference.

Could you take any of the gold weapon duplicates and paint them grey to fill in for missing grey weapons?

I am a board game player /collector/ crafter etc. I have an incomplete copy. You need a knight and which 2 weapons? I will take a look what I have tonight.
The knight, a gold morning star, and 3 of the grey weaopns (axe, rapier, mace) 🙂
After checking. I have a good quantity board, the Knight and the Morningstar only. I’d be happy to send them your way however both pieces are painted with a gloss model enamel. I suspect they would be difficult to strip (though I have never tried and may be mistaken)
I mean i get trying to collect everything and find the pieces and parts out there, but in my opinion if you have a part and its kinda beat up and needs to be fixed beyond kinda what is possible, i think printing and 3d printing are allowed. for the walls and game board get some card stock and use a printer to go through and print off and glue on new parts, you could laser cut it so its the precise shape, or whatever. hell heres an awesome idea, since you plan on having 2 sets one painted one not, the painted one, take that and go full on hardcore crafter mode on that one, replace everything with new bits and whatnot
I’m not interested in reproductions or fakes, that defeats the whole purpose and takes away all the fun (for me). Making a custom version would be neat for other reasons, but I’d still want a full original.
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial I had just meant if you had found a piece or two already that were kinda beat up then replacing those if you can't find ones in better condition would be ok, but that's what led me into the whole make your own custom set because you could go the whole nine if you wanted, redesign figures and all. Again just a super cool idea. I did something similar with the game small world

I've been subscribed for about 3 years. I pretty much started my journey with crafting and buying tools to cut and shape foam because of you. I've learned blackwash, dry brushing, and oils from you. I've graduated to 3D printing for terrain and ready made files for making some pretty awesome mini's. I use your technics that you have taught and they transfer to 3D printing just the same. I love your teaching approach because it doesn't intimidate me because you make me feel like I can do it. I've been making and painting some awesome things because of you. Keep going man, you are an inspiration to people that are hesitate or just afraid to try. Just dry brushing in front of people makes them amazed like it's a magic trick. Tips and tricks baby, keep going.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but supplemental to the original german version of this game (Burg des Schreckens, Castle of Horror), there were two more games belonging together: Dorf des Grauens (Village of Terror) and Tal des Drachens (Valley of the Dragon), that could be placed together on a big table and played one after the other.
If you haven't considered it already, this project seems like a perfect time to get a 3d scanner. You could make 3d files of all the minis for 3d printing reproduction.
I don't know this game at all, but this is an awesome side project.
Perhaps as a fun little project you can make the basic weapons from sprew glue?
