As a flight attendant back in the 80s-90s, I worked on a 30 passenger turboprop made by Embrarer called the Brasilia. God I loved working that plane as I was the only flight attendant. The pilots and I would do four days of turn arounds from Orlando to Key West to Nassau and we had fun. Now that was real flying! Good memories.
I've flown this from Aalborg, Denmark to Oslo, Norway. And it was so cheap, flight time was only 1 hour, but they served a full meal including ice-cream for dessert and then we landed 🤷🏽♀️ I miss them flying this route.
I've done that flight! Basically an entirely business class flight. I did an evening flight and was in the single seat. The view over the North Sea at night is amazing.
I did took that plane as an Airbus engineer. We have a daily shuttle from Airbus Helicopters in Marseille to Airbus helicopters in Donauworth germany. It is operated by sun air with British Airways livery
Dornier, eh? Reminds me of Beatle John Lennon who was reputed to have said in the early 1960s, while performing in Hamburg, "It's good to fly Lufthansa to London, their pilots know the way."
I am Belgian and used to work for Swisscom in Bern. Sun-Air had a daily flight Billund-Brussels-Bern, and I used it every week on the Brussels-Bern leg. The breakfast was fantastic (and they always tried to serve me akvavit with it, which I refused). Bern has a very challenging approach, and only smaller planes can land there.
I regularly take it from Billund to London City. Absolute best flight experience out of Denmark. Always plenty of space in the cabin, and you are more or less served food ore drinks during the entire flight 😅
As a Cambridgeshire man. I must say These used to be quite often into Cambridge city airport. But they are mot so common nowadays unfortunately. Also i bet you didn't know that the Boeing 747 can actually land at the airport.
I've flown this a few times. The in-flight service is superb and they're comfortable planes which, despite their air, come across as stable and relatively quiet.
I’ve flown this plane from Denver Colorado to Telluride Colorado on Denver Air Connection - really fun flight, the mountains rise up around you as you get closer, taller than the plane is off the ground, you go up 3000+ feet and stay at a higher altitude since Telluride is so high - and the runway suddenly appears out of nowhere below you. All on a sub one hour flight.
Flown it to Rotterdam out of London City, but during the days when it was a prop - not a jet. And boy was it the noisiest plane I’d ever travelled on! Vibrations were insane.
I worked for a small commuter airline back in 1980-1984. Our largest plane was a 17 passeger Sweringer Metroliner. Our smallest plane was an 8 passenger Cessna 402. This plane would feel like a 737.
I often get that flight from billund to London city on a Friday afternoon. We call it the baileys and ice cream flight. If you’re ever on it get the baileys and ice cream.. truly wonderful ❤
An even smaller plane that regularly flies in and out of the UK are the Dornier 228s operated by Aurigny - little turboprops used for flights to Alderney from Guernsey and Southampton.
I had the opportunity to fly on one back in 2007. It was midwest ... the aircraft actually had leather seats and i was totally impressed at how little runway that little jet used to get airborne and climb out.. it was from Milwaukee to Minneapolis..definitely left a notch in my memorable flight experiences.
Yup, flown those routes before. Years ago from Manchester to Billund. Not sure the the aircraft type, but it was a turbo prop of some kind. It was delayed 2 hours due to strong head winds and I missed my connection from Billund to Allborg. The overhead bin space was tiny, space for a laptop only at the time. No space under the seat in front. Remember it being very loud.
I’ve flown in smaller! 7 seater (if I recall correctly) from Dundee airport to London. I think it was operated by BA at the time…and I only flew in it, because it was cheaper than getting the train…which still shocks me to this day!
Midwest Express Airlines here in the US had a few of these. I flew on several of them in the early 2000s between MKE and GRR. It’s a 7-hour drive between the two cities around the bottom of Lake Michigan, but less than 30 minutes flying across it. Other than limited visibility out of the windows, the planes were fantastic. Miss those days.
I've flown the CAM - GOT route on this plane, it was incredibly comfortable and the service was excellent. The best part however is that it only takes about 5 minutes to get through security since there are no other commercial flights!
This BA/Sunair Dornier was common outside my crew room at MAN a few years ago. I used to watch it use the ground air start, the noise was extremely highpitched. Back then it operated MAN-BLL.
American here. I’ve never ever had a bad experience with any British flight I’ve travelled on. Food wise, staff wise, customary wise. The brits undoubtedly deserve a place in top tier aviation, maritime and general well-being experiences.
Irish airline Aer Lingus, sometimes branded as Aer Lingus Regional, has in the past used Stobart Air, Aer Arran, Emerald Airways, among others, to operate similar aircraft on shorthaul flights between Ireland and the U.K. - BA not only has codeshare arrangements with Aer Lingus on the DUB-LHR route where they share flight numbers, but BA is still operating flights into Dublin and other Irish airports from the U.K. using smaller aircraft types
Honestly, the rotterdam - london city airport route id also this comfortable, in flight service, nice letter chairs with a wealth of space compared to a BA A320.
Rode one of these from Chicago to Albany NY many years ago. It was a beautiful day, and the high wing means every window seat has a great view. It's a small enough plane that they rearranged all the pax for weight and balance.

We used to have the 328jet in/out of Syracuse (SYR) operated by Atlantic Coast Airlines as a Delta Connection carrier. Unfortunately I never had a chance to fly on it.
I recall a similar flight (30-something years ago) Teesside to Aberdeen via Newcastle on, i think, a Fokker Friendship (whatever the technical name is/was). Lovely crew, great flight. Smaller planes don't leave you feeling like you're only a random entry in some corporate register or other.
I flew something similar to this flying from Orlando to DC. It is literally the closest thing to private. I think it was maybe 12 of us on the flight and the flight attendants were the best.
You should look at regional express AKA ReX airlines in Australia. They operate a bunch of small planes between smaller Australian cities and towns and service regional and remote communities. They have a whole bunch of turboprop aircraft
So like a carpool for AstraZeneca employees, except its a plane.
😂😂😂
I live in Cambridge and I knew there was an airport but I didn't realise any commercial flights flew out of there!
@@ItzOLLIThey don't, the flight mentioned is a charter flight
@@mercuryinyourwallscharters are for profit so i guess that means it is commercial

yes!!!
The look kinda cute:) but is it even worth it with only 32 seats?
Reminds of all those years I was traveling on a CRJ-200
And no random sitting next to you
Not the first time Dornier has flown to the UK…
Ok I chuckled
Most of the previous Dorniers strangely never left after flying here before. ;)
Subtle. Well played.
Well played my friend
Well played
It’s the most successful at delivering its load to the UK.
Sun-Air are just the nicest people you can imagine. They see and treat each other like family, and the passengers like most welcome guests.
Absolutely true. The FAs are absolutely fabulous.
i steer away from "we're a family" type of companies

The props were notorious for failing on those aircraft at that time.
I worked the same plane from 98 to 2005. In LFT and AVL. They were phased out for the CRJ. (ASA Delta Connection)
Dude you have trains with them ?
I remember stumbling across the flight from Gothenburg to Cambridge. Thanks for explaining this!
I used to see them all the time when visiting my family there
This airport is right next to Marshall Aerospace I believe
I've flown this from Aalborg, Denmark to Oslo, Norway. And it was so cheap, flight time was only 1 hour, but they served a full meal including ice-cream for dessert and then we landed 🤷🏽♀️ I miss them flying this route.
That plane climbs like a bat outta hell.

The Dornier wine tops it off like a cherry on an ice cream 👌

I've flown this a few times. The in-flight service is superb and they're comfortable planes which, despite their air, come across as stable and relatively quiet.
The level of in-flight service aboard a charter flight is determined by the organization chartering the aircraft, not the carrier.
@@Ben-xe8ps Yes, but they mainly do regular scheduled flights. You can have a look at the review by Simply Aviation to see what the service is like.
Absolutely! We need a plane like that to service Key West Florida
Alaska/Horizon used to operate DO-328 turboprops. I loved those little aircraft a lot more than the DH-8 turboprops.
These are extremely reliable jets, like a Jeep or the sky they are very rugged tough and dependable in any weather conditions.
We get these into Manchester a lot, cute things
