How happy I was at the start of this vs how I was at the end 🤣 wtf was this episode holy shit.
We're on episode 9 on patreon! patreon.com/hollyreacts
@Hollyreacts keep watching, the series gets better. trust me, I've binge watched the whole series
When you grew up with FMA 03 when they spent almost four episodes with Nina and you really grew attached to them only to see what her father did with no warning and then scar killing Nina and you actually see the body got ripped apart and the remains spattered on a wall, the military even talked about using Nina for experiments compared to that this episode in FMAB seemed mild. Tucker got of easy in brotherhood a nice quick death. He got a better punishment FMA 03
Oh... what number comes after 9?
Episode 4 is a rite of passage. You’re officially part of the fandom now.
🏅my badge of honour
@@HollyreactsI recommend the 2003 version, there the scene is more heartbreaking and painful
@Hollyreacts yeah, the Nina Arc in Fullmetal Alchemist 2003? 4 episodes long. We really get to know the Tucker family in that version. When they made Brotherhood, they abridged the events in the 2003 version up until the point of divergence because it was made before the manga finished. Also, because the 2003 version was super popular, they cut a lot of context that really fleshes things out, because it's assumed that you've watched the first anime before this one. I mean, except for the pilot, which is anime only content.
@@Hollyreacts and this is just the watered down Disney version... its FAR worse in the original series.
Disney had no part in brotherhood.
As I mentioned in the episode 1 reaction, I hated the mistranslation of Scar's dialogue in the end of this episode in the dub. When he is praying, he doesn't use the words "human" souls. He just prays for two souls. Which implies that he's praying for the souls of Nina and Alexander, not Nina and Shou. He's never seen praying for the state alchemists he kills. He doesn't give two f*cks about the salvation of Shou's soul. He killed the Nina/Alexander Chimera as an act of compassion, because he wanted to free them from their suffering and find peace.
Good point. I don't own all the Manga, but of all the people who die (spoiler alert, people are dying) he's the only main character she drew being dragged to hell instead of heaven.
yeah the mistranslation on that was like "aaaaa- i highly doubt hes praying for shou." tbh i thought he was praying for nina and alexander cause theres no way hes praying for shou in that as well. especially after what shou did.
@@AwokenArtist I know, right? It just doesn't make sense for home to pray especially for Shou's peace when Scar has never been seen praying for any of his other kills!
"He seems like a nice guy".
I literally took a drink after you said that. Yes, welcome to the FMA:B family. You've passed initiation.
🤣honoured to be part of the team
I was thinking, "you're about to understand how wrong you are." Tucker was the worst father in anime, but then I saw Bondrewd. He is...much, much worse.
Duck goes "quack", Cat goes "meow", and dog goes "Ed...ward"
LMAO PLEASE
Still too soon.
3:33 Yep, he's the best father in anime! 😂
***cough***madeinabyss***cough***
It's even more brutal in the 2003 version, as it goes over two episodes for you to get to know the family.
This series goes from Saturday morning cartoon to dark as hell real fucking quick.
The last episode showed
The extremes of religion
This episode showed
The extremes of science
Ep 3 is a criticism of religion, ep 4 is a criticism of science....
Anything can become a dogma and lead one down a path of darkness.
this episode broke everyone. Like Nina and Alexander did not deserve this
This has to be the saddest scene bro😕😕
This has to be the saddest scene bro😕😕
"I was excited to see the chimeras"
Like that excited innocent feeling of going to the farm to see how hamburgers are made before you know how they're made
I distinctly remember watching the first episode of AOT and being horrified and shocked, but watching this episode for the first time made me feel so dumbfounded, depressed, and actually physically ill. Hope you enjoyed your experience👍
this episode is why AOT ep 1 did nothing for me. i was already broken
This episode is always rough to watch...
And about separating Nina and Alexander. It can be a bit hard to understand why it can't be done, since Alchemy seems quite magical to us. But what made me understand it more fully was a comment I read on another reaction
"To undo a chimera for them would be like if someone brought you a cake and asked you to unmake it so you'd have the ingredients again"
Ohhh that analogy makes a lot of sense. Oof. 😭 It's not a quick transformation as such it's an actual change in the makeup of them
Or adding milk to coffee.
Od dear, once you've experienced Nina and Alexander it stays with you forever. I like FMAB the best. But in original FMA, you get to know Nina and Alex during more then one episode so when the tragedy happens. it hits you even harder. I cried a lot when I was younger and saw it for the first time.
I do prefer this whole bit in the original. It's a 4 episode long mini arc within the series. It hurts even more, but it's told better. However, at least in FMA:B, they just rip off the bandaid...
I remember picking out the manga from my local Library just on happenstance... this chapter is just.... Is there any scene in any anime or manga that comes even remotely close to how F***ed up this is? often I don't care what genre, if someone says "F***ed up moment* this is the first thing that comes to mind
Consider yourself lucky, you got off light. In the 2003 FMA series this story was stretched out to two full episodes which only led viewers to get even more emotionally invested in Nina and Alexander and relax their suspicions of Shou Tucker more before the brutal gut punch at the end. If you get a chance you should check them out, it's episodes 6 and 7, for a proper comparison.
thought it was 4 episodes
You have been ordained into the fandom now. Your emotions reflect all other emotions that we felt when we watched episode 4 of FMA:B.
Scar saying two human souls is kind of a translation error in the manga he just says two souls, Nina and Alexander. Everyone always mentions this last bit, but at the end of every Volume, Arakawa draws any characters that die going to heaven. Shou Tucker is the only character she drew going to hell.
And now you know why, when it comes to Nina memes, it is always... ALWAYS "too soon."
great reaction! VERY heavy episode to react to :)
famous in anime for it to be honest.
episode 3 is the extreme of blind faith and religion, fully giving yourself to something you can't touch, prove or verify and the dangers that come with it.
episode 4 is the extreme of science and knowledge, the fact that we 'can' doesn't mean we should..
where do we draw the line? what is worth more to us? our humanity or our progression?
at what point do our morals outweigh our possibility for innovation?
the extreme of religion got stopped by a man of pure science of logical thought.
the extreme of science got stopped by a man of faith, conviction, and love.
"FUUUUSION HA!"
Even the Wish brand philosophers stone is pretty powerful. XD
🤣🤣
Just a fun Fact: Anya in Spý Famiyi has a chimera toy, she is a little red girl an has big dog.. do yo know what i mean!!!
Huh, I never thought of it that way. It makes me a bit worried for Anya.
Congratz! You got Fullmetal Alchemisted. ❤
🤣🏆
"Awe, he seems like a nice guy..."
I'm sorry...
🤣❤️
Congratulations, now you are part of the team!
This episode and the previous one are episodes meant to represent the extremes that religion and science can reach respectively. Showing the bad/sinister side of both extremes.
And fun fact:
The author of this show tends to draw in the manga some little stick figures every time a character dies.
For Nina and Alexander (her dog) she draw them as stick figures (with a halo and wings) implying that they're going to heaven.
But for Shou Tucker she draw a stick figure falling down to hell.
That thumbnail on its own gave me flashbacks.
No matter how many times I see it, this episode always hits like a kick in the pjondoleros.
8:30 This is like "The Game," you lose every time you think about it.
You're welcome.
Lol I can tell your brain stopped working after the reveal 🤣
LOL you are not wrong my friend 🤣
One of the darkest anime episodes
Just a wholesome episode about a girl and her dag.
Ending her is an act of mercy
Ah Nina and Alexander, is there any other two in anime as inseparable as them?
STAAAAAAAAP!!!! 😂
Still too soon!!!
It's okay we all cry and I'm a man. This scene will b in you for the rest of ur life

アニメ史に残るトラウマ回(しかも女性漫画家)。

so no one told you live was gonna be this way *maniacal laughter*. Buckle your seat belt cause this is a roller coaster!
Yoki was the villain of a little side story they skipped in this adaptation.
" 3:33 aww he seems like a nice guy "
Later...*heart shatters*
This is the real welcome to the show, lamo.😂
Well you should know that, even by being alive for a single episode of the full series, Tucker is the most hated anime character of all time. He has a rival in a character on "made in Abyss", but last time I checked the top 10, this guy was still number 1
Don’t think I’m ready for a rewatch for this but wanted to come and give u a virtual hug and let the video play out for algo love
The algorithm brought me here.
This episode is actually a prime example of an episode which I think is better dubbed than subbed. Not in the quality of the voice acting, I'd say those are roughly on par, but the actual content of what's being said is scripted better in the dub on the reveal at the end. The same for several other episodes. It's the script not necessarily the voice acting.
Majority of Fullmetal Alchemist is inspired by real life events.
While no real life Nina Tucker situation has ever happened, scientists have used animal parts to replace human parts in experiments for decades. The episode is commentary on how human and animal experimentation goes much too far in the science field. Even with the animal rights activism we have today.
This episode was the nailing cook for me
3:34 bruh
Welcome to FMAB
Look at the bright side. This was so bad that from now on it could only gets better
Welcome to FeelsMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood hahahaha
Not exactly fake stones... but at least not true stones. But that's more a fault of Modern English Usage. Lesser or Incomplete Philosopher's Stones would possibly have been a better translations but... MEU tends to prefer short, curt... "Fake"
Ah the small dose of pain everyones favorite episode
Don't worry, it gets worse! :D
Welcome to the trauma club
Fusion dance!!
One of my favorite hobbies is watching people watch fmab ep4
I need help
There are a ton of Nina memes.
I both love and hate them :)
welcome aboard
can we play now? 😭
😭😭😭😭
Lets be real. We all kno why we're here.
its even worse in the original show since they spent more time on the first half of the story, you spend more time with nina. thats arguably the weakest part of brotherhood, how quickly it skips through the first part of the series, which is understandable, but new fans that only watch brotherhood miss out.
To be fair, a lotta that stuff in 03 was filler - Brotherhood is adapting the original manga, not 03
(they still shorten stuff ofc, but not all thats "missing" in Brotherhood compared to 03 was in the manga at all)
This was a little rushed, but there is another relationship that suffered from this problem even more.
